I like to think that they (Microsoft) are first practising with wc2, seeing what it takes to make it a success, starting with a small project where its not so bad if the costs turn out to 5x the projected costs

WC2 is a great game, had so much fun playing the multiplayer back in the day. The game has a solid foundation from a game design stand point, it's fairly simplistic and easy to learn compared to other RTS games but still with a lot of tactical depth.
it is mind-boggeling that someone could think that wc3 remastered with the hole triology wouldnt make money. Sure it is not as efficient as a single wow real money store horse, but that only works because people like the warcraft franchise a lot. It is the same with Blizzcon and other things like that, that potentially boost the sales of other things indirectly or are more beneficial in the long run. The immense shortsightedness of so many companies is incredibly baffling to me and the current downfall of Ubisoft is a great example of what the results of such behavior can be. Not everything a company does has to be a 10x ROI and sometimes you cant just put a Number on a Project.
He said it's not efficient & it's true sadly, a tout this again & again, Reforged wasn't meant to be sold to us, it was meant for the "Wowsers" as sad as it is, the grab & the whole scheme is to get them to buy the game so they get a mount in that game + the visual ticket. Basically they canned the project (which I agree with) but didn't tell the customer (which I don't agree with). Doing it right would've cost a ton of money & back revenue unless you measure it by like 5 years is not worth it since he was wanted the biggest paycheck before he left, cannibalizing the whole company. Sad it wasn't meant for us but what would you expect from ActiBlizz/bobby.
And this is the only reason I supported MS takeover of Activision-Blizzard. They are happy to spend money on relatively niche titles like the Age of Empires series which to this day is actively supported across 2, 3 and 4 (+ the remaster of 1). It drives PC Gamepass numbers. So after breaking free from Kotick's shackles there's a much higher possibility of us getting PROPER remaster of WarCraft 3, and as seen here now also WarCraft 2. I wouldn't be surprised if there were early talks of doing SC3 and/or WC4.
WC2 remaster is actually super intelligent idea. It will be great both for Starcraft player (as it is mostly traditional RTS unlike WC3) and to WC3 players who love this game for universe and climate and are waiting for new Warcraft game. It's actually brilliant if true and hopefully it is
I honestly thought it was gonna be Warcraft 1 which would be a disappointment to me unless they did a complete rework. War 2 is actually amazing it needs a lot of balancing.
I give credit to the mod team that made the W2 remaster, but people need to remember that it would not exist without importing almost the entirety of the content in the game from WoW. If they were to sit down and properly make a remaster, they will lean into making all new elements/remastered music/lore adjustments to make it all make sense/etc. So if Blizzard does this correctly...it could be pretty awesome. Fingers crossed that Blizz wakes up and Microsoft reminds them of the financial success of remastering legacy content faithfully/effectively. Instead of what they did with cutting down the W3 Reforged team before they could finish the work.

@@matthewrevell2706 I don't think they are gonna implement auto cast in wc2. I think the easiest solution would be turning paladins' heal into an aoe effect. Or 2nd alternative, turning paladin's heal into a "heal over time" buff/effect which should be strong enough to match the huge damage boost that mage ogres get with Blood lust. That way paladins could buff the units with this "heal over time" before they go to fight, just like ogres buff themselves before going to fight. Values should be adjusted obviously to balance it. Other than this, wc2 is balanced.
Wargus is already a great update so they have some work to do with this to match that. But I expect good cutscenes and probably in-game visuals, minor if any gameplay changes going by the SC one

I imagine that blizzard is so lazy and cost-cutting now that they are going to agree to license chronicles of the second age as a “Warcraft 2 reforged”. Throw a few developers on it for bug fixing. But maybe that’s too big a nod to the community?

Honestly i really like WC2 and i always thought that that 2D graphics and movements in square had its charm. Obviously the copy and paste of 99% of units between human and orcs didn't age well, but in a remake that could be fixed. In addition to a rework in units, obviously Heroes, rpg mechanics, camps and all of that should be implemented in any remake or sequel of WC, this is what made WC so good in my opinion.
Im a huge Warcraft fan, would love for them to update WC3 like we deserve.. but you guys really need to be realistic. There won't be anything new, maybe a skin..that's it.

The only things I want for Warcraft 3 is to be able to play it on Battlenet again, widescreen support and have 24 players. You may think that some of these features were added in 1.29 but the game was unplayable already by then. Bring back mpq format if you can't properly repackage the game.
Blizz, please dont. Dont touch any more of the old classic games. You have done enough damage to them already. Learn to be satisfied with what you already destroyed.
Ideally they remake WC1 and not WC2. WC2 is already being remade by fans as a WC3 Reforged campaign, and the WC1 fan-remake is still in its infant stages. Assets that were produced for it can still be used for other projects (i.e. a Prologue campaign).

I think there're a couple of situations that may happen: 1) Blizzard may keep War2 2D artwork with different sprites for the units. 2) Blizzard may upscale the original sprites being re-drawn for higher resolutions, besides it already exists a widescreen fan-made program for war2 that zoom out the game. 3) Blizzard could remake the engine to fix a couple of things from the original game that are so obsolete like unit pathing and enhancing AI. 4) Blizzard could jump to 3D models, but still remaining within war2 engine. Don't really know if they take in consideration all the work being done already by fans in Warcraft 2 and Wargus, since they released their GOG version and the one from battle net launcher without even adding up all the content that is done by fans and have better support. I hope they balance wc2. Just nerf ogre mages. And wc2 would be waaaaay funnier to play and watch. Gameplay wise wc2 is pretty solid in 2024. Wc1 on the other hand, too rusty.

Well if heal and bl are both auto cast It will change the meta
no bl nerf needed. Buff heal of knight to better target low health unit. If you could use heal while fighting it is pretty steong

What do you even remaster about Warcraft 2? It already has perfect graphics. There is nothing to upscale.
You can re-draw the graphics to make it high quality, just like they did it for Starcraft 1 :) Also controls might be improved, pathfinding etc.
