Just heard his mom passed away. From someone who also grew up with a difficult relationship with his mother and an absent father, this song speaks volumes. Sometimes, it's hard to forgive our parents, but those are the ones we had placed before us. Some of us out there are the product of our parents generational trauma.
I'm glad he got to make amends with his mom. My relationship wasn't the best years back, but I understand why my mom is the way she is, and how rough and harder my grandma was on her. Happy to say that our relationship is good now.
The grief you feel after losing a parent that you had a complicated relationship with is different than other grief. The loss of who they were, who you hoped they'd be, who you needed them to be, who they'll never be. This song perfectly expressed some of the complicated feelings I have about my mom, it was released after she was gone. I've often wondered what this loss will bring for Marshall. There will be battles fought between him and the other personas he carries in his head as he tries to process the anger, the pain, the guilt, the sadness, and even the relief that comes as you no longer wait for this phone call. I hope he has strong support during this time and is gentle with himself.

I usually dont get emotional over songs like these but this really almost makes me cry, its a masterpeice, showing his love for his mom, and for anyone to listen to if they are forgiving of their mom, I dont know but this song really sticks out to me.
My brother killed himself when I was little and my mom became an alcoholic. She couldn't cope. I used to get so mad at her and listened to Cleaning Out My Closet on repeat to piss her off. I grew up, I realized what she went through was one of the hardest things a mother could endure and I found myself appreciating her in a new way. She died from the alcoholism, I had to take her off of life support. I kissed her forehead as she died in my arms and all I could hear was this song in my head. I lost my dad last year, he got murdered. I found myself wanting my mama and looking for her strength. She wasn't here but I found that strength because of the love she gave me when she was here. I love you mama. Rest in peace💕

@@lucas8561 it's not like an easy thing, the problem is he already had a fucked up life and his mother was making it worth on him like why didn't she just give him some support some love but she added to the cruelty that he was facing throughout his story growing up without a father figure.
You are a legend ❤ Your mom needs more love after all she is your mom. I'm sure she regretted this decision 1min after she left. Always show love to her.
His lyricism is incredibly transparent. There's almost no art, no metaphor, no poetry here. It may be heartbreaking and real, but this is not music. This is as straightforward as a facebook post.
You are not a fan that is why you don't understand this side of Em.. this is Marshall here spitting about his life.. if you want metaphor and poetry listen to Eminem the rapper and if you want more than that listen to shady for internal rhymes, bars, wordplay, homophone triple entendre, speed, all the fucking elements that you want in a rap.
Dear Debbie Nelson thank you for making a legend that I can listen to when I’m going through hard times I wish you have peace and have a nice rest RIP❤️ Debbie merry Christmas
I’ve always loved how he criticizes his younger self on being blinded on how much he really does love his mom and how much she means to him.. it’s a blessing he snapped back to reality before she was gone and it was too late
you do realise 99% of the problems were cause HE caused them?....all she ever did was speak the truth, in every interview, ever....but he milked the drama for the sake of $$$$$$. So that fanboys like you would scream ''fuck you debbie! now this looks like...'' etc.... If he really cared, he'd giver her every penny he made off defaming her.
“That’s when I realized you were sick and it wasn’t fixable”.... to anyone with parents who struggle with addiction or mental health; find the answer in compassion and understanding. I’m sorry for all you have or will face.
Tried to but it has gone nowhere....it's the same cycle that won't stop...unfortunately some people are just better off not being involved regardless of blood relation
I lost my mom two years ago its hard to think about how much more time I could have spent If I hadn't moved to Los Angeles. In her final years my younger brother took on here illness burden. He quit his job dumped his girlfriend gave up his entire lifestyle just to take care of my mother. I'm glad Eminem is trying to make things right with his mother although this was not his mother in this video its still is a good representation of his mom. I hope he actually is trying to make things right between them. Life Isn't about money....
I know how you feel. I have parents. But they kicked me out of our house when i was 7. I moved to grandmas place and now im 14 living alone, taking care of my grandpa.
RIP Debbie Mathers. Thank you for birthing a legend that blessed humanity with his creative arts. Thank you Em for demonstrating love in its purest form. You conquered hate! You conquered bitterness. You’re a champion and your life is a model to all those struggling to overcome the hate of their childhood inflicted by loved ones.
Even the fact that this was shot from the perspective of his mother shows his intentions even before hearing the lyrics fully. I’m proud of him for this. It’s easier to be mad and find more reasons to be than to forgive and be open to change. It goes both ways though. Both people need to be willing. This song will always be one of my top favorite songs because of how much I relate to it. I listen to cleaning out my closet and this one in order and it’s actually helped a ton. As someone whose not good with expressing their emotions through words and just analyzes them instead, I feel heard and like my emotions are being brought to light. Thank you, Marshall for all you’ve done and continue to do. Forever GOAT.
How is this sung from eminems perspective by himself and somehow his mother's point of view? Guess she is broke and using him again like mother Mary did to jesus

If someone told me 17 years ago that he's gonna make this song, I would told them no fcking way, never gonna happened! It's amazing to see how much this man has grown and matured, after everything he's been through... And I feel lucky and blessed for being able witnessing this whole journey... It was such a great experience! ❤️
Right in the feels. Every damn time I listen to this. And I love it. I may need to go back and listen to every other song he’s ever wrote but this just may be his best lyrics ever.
Fatherless boys tend to blame their loneliness and depression on their mothers instead of blaming the real enemy, its sad man, I wish it wasn't like that.
No you don’t. I was on OG fan and I even attain some of my upbringing towards him as I didn’t have a father in my life and I used people like Eminem to fill that gaping hole (pause). But I hate this gate keeping mentality of “you had to be there or you’re not a real fan”. I’m sure there are many fans who were born after the year 2000 who love his old work and can understand the importance of this track. If certain things speak to you on a deep level, we don’t have to discredit others’ understanding. Just my 2c. Peace bro ✌️
THIS IS WHY... Em is a legend. RAW, PURE, emotion that the world can relate to. IT'LL NEVER GROW OLD. Your music will last forever, as long as humans don't become numb to feeling LOVE, HATE, HAPPINESS, SADNESS, JOY, PAIN, AFRAID, and ASHAMED. HIS MUSIC CAPTURES IT ALL. HE'S A BLESSING TO THE WORLD 💯
Windows Vista lol it’s HIS mother. You don’t get to decide who he should and shouldn’t forgive. Geez someone’s bitter over someone they don’t even know 🙄
It takes a real man to apologize to his mom and try to make peace after everything they have been through. That's another reason why I respect Eminem so much.
flufferella conspiracy oh sweet salty Christ that song freaked me out the first time I listened to it and it seems as if he has clamed down a lot since those days as that song did come out in 1999
This song just makes me love eminem even more. It takes a lot to forgive (considering everything he's expressed on records before regarding his mom) and I just love that he's honest with himself and his fans. Always was.
I hope Em sees this. I too have two brothers who went into the system. I was too, my mom left me in the closet at a doctors office. I was lucky enough to have a father who cared about me. A fuck up, but he loved me. I hope you found him, I don't research famous people. I'm from Lansing MI, and we don't got time for shit lol. We love you though, esp my man. I hope you are doing OK, as ok can get. I know it's hard, I lost both my parents by 18. Long story. Anyways, wishing you well. ❤❤❤
His horrible dad is dead, and only recently his mom passed!!he doesn’t have any parents anymore, he still has his extended family; but I think he doesn’t get along with most of them and doesn’t want his kids involved. Unless they’re old enough to want to interact, and he aproves of it; then the kids got a connection.
There is something special about this song, when you listen it when you’re a little kid you dont feel the lyrics as good, but as you get older you understand..
I was 15 when I discovered this song, my dad was a dj so thanks to him I Learn from a young age about Eminem, thankfully I have a good relationship with my mom and this song just makes me happy and sad, it’s been a long time since I’ve herd it
Mine won’t let me claiming she don’t trust me and she said she thought I’d hit her in front of my sister tf kinda shit is this I didn’t ask for any of this bullshit
After a rough divorce between my parents I grew to hate my mom when I was 14 because she left my father. I'd try so hard to skip weekends with her and when she confronted me about why I wouldn't show I threw excuses at her and she'd call me and we had arguments over the phone for hours leaving us both in tears. When this song came out i knew about cleaning out my closet and was exposed to how rough Em's childhood was and for him to disregard that track meant everything. This song helped me find closure with myself and my mom. I cry every time I hear this
This song is dedicated to me by my miss e son who resides in Colorado.. Ty My son Eric Yambrick... I love you very much and ill always be here for you no matter what.. I wish Eminem would facebook my son and tell him ty... He is my rock.my reason for living everyday...
My parents are separated and it is always hard to be in the middle of that. I am the same way with my mom sometimes where I push her away but I know both sides are at fault. She also isn't the easiest to deal with but this song reminds me that no matter what she is my mom.
This song is really beautiful tbh. In this song he's apologizing to his mom for "cleaning out my closet" but you have to understand his mom had a drug problem and pushed all of her anger on her young son. When he wrote that song he was filled with rage. Now in her later years he knows what kind of mother she was but he realized what she was going through a single mom with a drug addiction. He feels guilty for making that song but I understand why he did it. He's so sad to see his mom finally wearing away. He does love her and this song is so nice.
My mother was alcoholic, and also addicted to medication, when I was young like 18 me and my mother would argue and fight a lot, we would physically fight, I had a huge hate for her, she was the person I hated the most in this world. Today I'm 34, I don't hate her anymore, I just feel sad for everything that happened, I feel sad for her sometimes, I totally understand Eminem in this song and in cleaning out my closet, and Jade is right too
I'm a grown man but no joke, this song makes me cry every single time I listen to it. It makes me think of my own family and the strained relationships I have with some of them; it's painful to even think about and I feel an immense guilt most of the time, yet I have no idea what to do.
I think you should tell them how you feel. I think Eminem made this song to tell his mom how he felt. There’s something very relieving about talking about those painful memories.
The fact that I didn’t grow up in a broken home(I’m thankful for this & im so sorry to anyone who has grown up in broken homes), and STILL feel I love this song & can relate, you know the artist is doing their job.
Tbh I feel like there are three levels of homes a broken home a family that loves u and acts like it and a family that isn’t broken but is consistently bullying you being rude etc

Eminem Christmas song for the broken kids/Adults
Rest in peace💕
i'm really sorry 😥

This is 💯 so true & I feel the same! Wishing continued blessings for you 🙏❤️🙏
