    I work for Delta Airlines and have family living in Jamaica. I fly 4 to 5 times a year to Jamaica and always wonder when will they upgrade the runway. I’m proud to see that this has happened. Big up Jamaica!

    I use to hang out at this airport back in the day as a little kid. I could go to the observation deck and watch the planes take off & arrive see my uncle signaling the planes coming in , walk thru customs back & forth it's just such a different world now...both my dad & uncle worked at the SDSIA (MBJ). Yes their was a gas station at the airport I remember that from at least 1974' - 75' . Then in 1976 when I took my first flight on an airplane to go to Disney World on vacation, it's funny how time flies.

    While I applaud the efforts the Jamaican government is putting into upgrading the Sangster Airport, I can't help but think it's mainly to facilitate the tourist industry or perhaps the potential involvement of the US military in the future. Here's a question: Is the government aggressively improving education? Education should be free, and teachers should be paid handsomely as they are responsible for nurturing a country's educated and skilled citizens. Additionally, how about modernizing hospitals and enhancing the salaries of nurses and doctors? Are the police and military personnel being adequately compensated? What programs is the government implementing to prevent brain drain and attract the diaspora? How is the government exploring our natural resources to benefit the people? Why does it seem that only a small group of elites can afford choice meats while those in ghetto areas can't even afford 'chicken back'? And why do most people in rural areas lack access to running water in a country known as the land of wood and water? Is the system intentionally designed to keep the black population poor and oppressed as a means of control?

      @sbf254...the money to build more hospitals and to pay medical professionals and teachers better mostly comes from the same tourist industry earnings that Sangster Airport expansion earns via foreign currency revenue growth....

    • @sbf254
      @sbf254 6 месяцев назад

      @@garfieldwhittaker944 It's truly baffling how some individuals remain short-sighted, continuously advocating for the transient tourism industry. The Jamaican government has relied on foreign exchange since establishing a client state in the 1980s. Despite this, professions like teachers, nurses, police officers, and other essential workers are still undervalued. A nation's economic prosperity hinges on developing the middle class, fostering small businesses, advancing manufacturing, technology, and agriculture-not solely relying on tourism. Unless the aim is to perpetuate poverty and dependence on government with hidden agendas.

    • @garfieldwhittaker944

      @@sbf254 I do understand your argument. But the reality remains that both the island's tourism industry and remittances constitute our main sources of crucial foreign exchange revenues that ultimately serve to fund the importation of the various expensive technologies used by educators, medical professionals, small businesses etc., etc..
