- We upgrade our truck camper front turnbuckle anchors with this DIY install of the HappiJac Frame Mount Camper Tiedown System on our 2015 Ram 3500 Tradesman truck.
I tried to keep this video simple but you can find written directions with pictures and extra annotations on our website, roamlab.com/ha...
very well done video, I bought a setup that had this already installed and now I can actually make sure it was all done correctly, very appreciative for your post!
This was a helpful video I combined this and the manufacturer instructions and installed my kit in an hour. Thank you!
Thank you for the great video and webpage! Worked out exactly like planned with your additional help. As an engineer, a couple of notes on all this for others ... Get the 3/8-24UN tap and run several times thru each front anchor plate to clear out the paint and such. The bolts should thread in by-hand easily. This makes mounting the front anchor plate SO much easier! Fine thread bolts are ~very easy to cross-thread! Otherwise, great helper vid! (2020 Ram 3500 Diesel)
Great to see this product with so much detail. The centering feature is quite smart. Overall much better than the “block of wood” the old Avion instruction manual calls out! .
Oh yes! We were just reviewing our copy of the old manual. How things have changed!
Thanks for taking the time to post this, I'm thinking about upgrading from the Brophys myself.
I like the design, look and price of the Happijac mount over the 'lower frame mounts' that cost 2x more...the drilling and assembly are a bit undesirable, but overall, the price is the big dissuader on the $900 frame mounts (where there's $100 of steel, and $800 of profit for the company).
Very helpful. The dealer didn’t space the guide poles correctly on my truck. It’s always been a real bugger to alight camper. Know I can fix it and hopefully it will not be so difficult to load camper. Thanks!
Thanks for the video , saw this set-up on another pickup.looking to put this on my dually
High quality video, and a new subscriber for your effort.
I use the frame mount type with no holes to drill and to me the frame would be a lot stronger and to me the bed mounts would let the camper to sway a tiny bit more.
Thank u for all this information
Why do you call this an upgrade from the Brophy mounts? The centering rubber comes are nice but that's the only upgrade I can see. What am I missing?
The HappiJac Tiedowns are far more secure. After a couple years with the Brophy, the sides of our truck bed were noticeably warped. Brophy's a great introductory tiedown solution that I would 100% recommend to people that don't want to spend a lot or drill into the truck bed. But for us, it was time for something more durable.
The anchor plate that is a 2 person job doesn't need a nut? Does this mean the the bolt from inside the box threads directly into the anchor plate?
Yes the anchor plates are tapped so you thread into them
How is this called a frame mount when all I see it is a box mount? But overall it looks better then a stake pocket mount.
3:22 That's where they tie to the frame of truck.
That’s not the truck frame. That’s just the frame of the box itself
Sounds like a lot.
Do you have the stake hole brophy mounts or the ones that clamp on?
We used the clamp on Brophys. We did a writeup about the experience here: roamlab.com/brophy-camper-tie-downs/
Is the stabilizing bar required to install these?
It’s not required, but I’d advise including it.
This is not frame mounted. 100% of the Trq. Is being controlled by the bed bolts.
A lot of unnecessary hardware. I’m going to use my side pockets and install drop in brackets
Yikes! Drill a few more holes, a little rust should not hurt.
epoxy spraypaint my dude.
Maybe you haven't heard... there's this stuff called 'spray paint in-a-can...'
Steel is galvanized
