- I knew this would be a problem when I planned to go to 33" tires. I could no longer use the stock tailgate tire carrier.
I ended up getting the Smittybilt 76651D SRC Classic Rear Bumper with D-Ring and Textured Black Tire Carrier for just under $300 delivered. Great deal for a name brand product.
I got it installed on my 1991 Jeep Wrangler YJ and it turned out great. - Авто/Мото
Thanks for this video. Now I get to figure out how to lower my gas tank.
Great video super helpful for my purchase
Glad it is a help. That is why I do them and appreciate everyone else who does too.
I'm thinking of putting one of these on the DIY u-weld bumper of my 97 Cherokee Laredo, but my welder is going to have to be a tad creative to get a good fit - Hope it works! Thanks for the walk-thru!
I hope it turns out great.
@@StarkReality Thanks! I also have a death-wobble/bump-steer issue to work out, but I have to get the bumpers on first... Take care!
Great vid!!! Thanks!!!!
Nice video. Im from the Netherlands and there is a $250 difference in the TJ and CJ tire carrier, but what I Understood they fit both models?
I was hoping there a trick for the inner bolts that did not involve dropping the gas tank.
Great video. Very helpful, especially using the rubber bumper to stop rattling. Are the tires 10.50 or 12.50 width?
The tires are 33x10.5. Fit the wheel well and the rims just right.
I have one question. Did you have to drop the gas tank to install this tire carrier. Thanks in advance for your help
Beavis Kornholio -No you can do it without dropping the tank but it is tough to get to some of the bolts. It would be easier with it dropped but if you have some extensions and swivel for you sockets you can get it.
Thanks for the install vid. Are you limited on the tailgate opening because of hitting the grease fitting on the tire carrier?
No. It swings around until it hits the Jeep.
Ok cool thanks for the reply. Just ordered one.
what kind of lift do you have and did it rub with 33x10.5 when flexed ?
I have 2.5 inch suspension, 1 inch body and 1+ inch shackle lifts on it. I have the original fenders though. Last time out I rubbed just a little on the back tires on the back corner fo the fender. I need to do a TJ fender swap and then I will not have any rub.
since you added this bumper to your jeep, do you have any problems changing a tire with the jack? I ask because i don't see a place on the bumper to leverage the jack against. It seems there isn't a 90 degree angle so you can lift the jack.
I don't use a Hi Lift. You would need a shackle attachment for a Hi Lift or you would have to get creative.
@@StarkReality thanks
Where did you get that rubber bumper to help with the rattle?
The large black bumper comes with the bumper. I have since added a small clear rubber piece to keep it tight and not rattle. The kind you get at the home store for chair glides. Has worked great.
Great video thanks for posting! How has it held up since the install? Any issues?
It has held up well. Only issue is the latch for the swing out. It rattles. I have found a solution of zip tie with some rubber fuel hose which has worked really well at stopping the rattle. Otherwise it is great.
Okay I have to ask, on this video where you're installing the new bumper and tire carrier I noticed that I have the same wheels that you have what size tires are you running? I noticed their BF Goodrich mud - terrain ta.. the reason I'm asking I like to look without getting too radical on my 92 YJ
Rm Harrison They are 33x10.5x15. I agree that they are a good size
Also did the rubber bumper come with the kit or where did you get it from, thanks again.
Beavis Kornholio - I got the little rubber stops from the home store. They are in the furniture feet section. Simple little thing.
Thank you for all of your help and the quick reply
Where did you find this for only 300 including shipping??
On Amazon - Smittybilt 76651D SRC Classic it is $215 right now with free shipping.
Hi, where did u locate the third break light?
Mr. Meth my Jeep is a 1991 which was the last year before the 3rd tail light was required. So I don’t have one at all. Also last year for the sport roll bar.
StarkReality ohh I didn’t know that. Mine is 1995. Is there a room to install the third break light on the bumper? Also I checked and as right now is over 300 on amazon. I just bought a winch and other stuff and don’t wanna break the bank.
Mr. Meth there is a spot on the top of the tire carrier where you can attach a 3rd light. There is a mount hole.
Is that hitch tow rated?
