How about making methane(CNG) or methanol from hydrogen + CO2 using electricity.
If this technique is used how much Kwh electricity is required to make 1 litre of methanol or 1 kg of methane.

I dont know about this cng shortening life span my guess would be engine oil is not meant to run on CH4 and petrol is a cleaning agent so it cleans many thing in your car
