90s: two words made you happy: Electronic Arts
Now: two letters make you sick: EA
exactly because in the 90s the second word of the two was taken seriously...and what came out was of such a high quality and beauty!!...pure bliss...
i guess everybody working on theses old nfs titles did it for the sake of creating something beautiful from car enthusiasts for car enthusiasts or anybody who wanted become one!
they had the claim for themselves to make it perfect...even the original music and all the car specs had to be great...so they got great people like saki kaskas (RIP!
@@IBOII5150I Yeah, even the loading screen art would take me places as a kid. Glad Rom Di Prisco is still kicking and making some good jams though. RIP Saki
EA Games! CHALLENGE EVERYTHING
God, this is so true!... Yet, so sad.
@@Djevan41598 that was also good but the og one was the best ELECTRONIC ARTS❤
The old NFS games had this unique European feeling that got lost after Hot Pursuit 2.
It's a shame really. The old NFS games had this unique and elegant style to it that didn't make the games all about racing, every car in the game had its own detailed history and each individual one could be appreciated like art, especially to the soft delicate soundtrack that made you feel like you were in a car museum. I for one have had a special bond with the Lamborghini Diablo SV ever since I first saw it as a 5 year old kid playing NFS 3.
Now it's just a regular racing franchise with random flashy cars and upbeat American Rock/Hip-Hop music.
Gocko Couldn't agree more :) Back then, it was about loving and appreciating cars. You can sense by playing the game that the people who made it really know what passion for cars is all about. Now it's just about money, money and more money.
Sammy, Ahmose I completely Agree. Back then, Need for Speed was created by people who loved cars, for people who loved cars. These old games had their own special charm and character. And it wasn't just about the cars. There were the awesome countryside tracks with each having their own special environment and feeling. When driving, you would actually start dreaming about driving a supercar through these road in real life. There was the menu design, the music and all the features which, when we saw it, we knew that there was a lot of real effort and passion poured into it. A passion that both the game makers and the players shared. After Hot Pursuit 2, it was just stupid tuning, 3 star bodykit and 4 star that and useless rap songs instead of the awesome soundtrack of the old games. With Underground, Need for Speed became less about racing and more about customization. To me, High Stakes will always be one of the greatest NFS games ever made and a million times better than hipster Underground.
Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 was very disappointed for me, I couldn't drive with the cockpit camera, only 1 track with 2 cars to reach only 300 km/h, I liked much more the older NFS games, with specifications of the car, photos, and the Need For Speed II had even videos of the cars! things that disappear in NFS Hot Pursuit 2
I think it's because back then, when those game were made by Electronic Arts, (best name ever to me as a kid) they were still Canadian!! hence the park rangers and the environments ...and great overall game experience!! But when they became the US EA Games.... Everything began to suck .... To me, NFS 3 and NFS 4 are the best games ever!! soooo much time went to these... :)
RIP Saki Kaskas
Rest in Peace :(
Rest in Peace Saki.
Gonna miss that man
StealthyXxX E D G Y, but what more should I expect from someone named "StealthyXxX" with an illuminati channel banner.
:(((
RIP. I’ll never forget this song.
@TheFecy amen
Racing with a C5 Corvette on Celtic Ruins track, with night driving and weather on, playing this music on background. One of the bests moments of my life.
NFS with a soul that touched us all
These NFS games and old FIFA ones got me into Electronic music.
Driving alone at night listening to this. Best thing ever
Callista - This is one of the greatest music which I ever been heard...
Rest in peace Saki. :(
Richárd Kazamér
have you hear his nfs 5 porsche 2000 - aquadelic
But this song makes me cry everyday, because I can't still believe that Saki left us, but guess I have to continue my life, this time, without him. R.I.P. Saki. :(
It also plays in Mass Effect series.
It's August 2001, I play my first console game. It's NFS High Stakes on the PSOne. I finish my first race on the Mercedes-Benz SLK 230 in Landstrasse and watch the replay. This song plays in the background. OOOHHH THE MEMORIES :')
The same thing for me bro.
Yeah so did i and guess what. 20 years later im cruisin in my SLK 230 on a german Landstrasse listening to this song, because of this game.
crusin with a sunset wind blowing
What a hell of a game , Durham Road was my favourite laps
RIP Saki
Dolphin cove at night
This is a timeless song as proven by EA using it in 2 games almost a decade apart.
I can remember when playing mass effect 2 and landing on omega and a I got closer to the bar a could hear the faint sound of music and as I got closer to the inside of the club it because clearer and opening the door to the main room and being hit by the clear sound of the song it brought on major nostalgia
This marvelous song also can be heard in NHL 06 videogame, made by EA Sports. So they used it at least 3 times in one decade, proving how good it is. 3 different games genres and works in all. But, for me, it belongs to Need For Speed 4. Greettings and lets keep enjoying this song in 2018 and beyond ;-)
now if you know the story behind that song and who made it...becomes even clearer why this was so incredibly good...
@@IBOII5150I So, share the story then
That was a "wait a tick, I recognise this" followed by "oh shit, I was right" moment for me. It was definitely a pleasant surprise to hear this on Omega as I spent my youth listening to it in NFS4.
@@IBOII5150I Story?
I miss nfs how it used to be in the 90s. It was focused on dream cars and that whole fascination. Not about all that idiotic underground street race pimp my ride bullshit that came afterwards.
I agree. i hate the music they put in need for speed now.
+corona407 Have you played test drive unlimited? that game is what need for speed should be like.
+Kane my friend had that game and i always heard him talk about it, but i never played it.
the first one is solid, but the sequal is broken as hell. glitchy game filled with linear racing and horrendous opponents. also, is those dull cop chases that are annoying. not to mention the repetitive side missions which are sometimes just annoying.
couldn't agree more
Today I found out you died
Thank you for your music, you shaped my childhood
Rest in peace Saki
Play this at my funeral
I remember buying this game at a book fair in 1999. I was 9 years old at the time. This game and other classic NFS games fueled my passion for automobiles, but the music made them so much better. 23 years later I’m playing this song while driving on some winding roads. Oh the memories 🥹
Losing never sounded so good.
You could enable this song to play during the races. I did it and racing at night with this song was climatic and amazing.
@@aloneinthelight7754 how
@@DiabloXL69 in the options menu, there are list of soundtracks and you can activate it to play into the races as well
RIP. I’ll never forget this song. NFS 3-4-2000 techno even now in my car.
Old NFS soundtracks > new NFS soundtracks
Ain't that the truth. Original Music > Licensed Soundtracks.
Levi Flaman
Not in the game like this. Never.
old NFS games > new NFS games
Correctomondo
That being said I have discovered a lot of music in newer NFS games that I probably wouldn't have, such as Pendulum (which was included in one of the worst recent NFS games...).
no matter how many times i play this track it always brings me in tears
Dash D. Cadet damn that’s beautiful. I like it
Rest easy Saki, thanks for the childhood and thanks for the driving music but most of all thanks for the memories.
Достойную вещь ты оставил после себя Саки. Вечная память...
Ассоциируется со ночной снежной трассой и волки воют в горах.
When I was younger I never understood the hype for this song, now as an adult I understand, it truly is a masterpiece.
RIP SAKI... youre music will live on and inspire many for years to come. It is you along with Rom Di Prisco for whom I thank for bringing a unique genre of music into my life.
RIP Saki Kaskas. You and Rom Di Prisco's tracks in NFS made my childhood awesome! Your tracks will always live with me.
Rest in peace, Saki :( Today i learned that without Saki, there would be no Rom Di Prisco as we all know him today! Saki was a HUGE influence for Rom and it shows! Rom, let Saki's soul be heard through your music
This is why Mass Effect 2 was awesome as well
best music in NFS
When I heard this in Mass Effect I immediately got out my old PC version of NFS HS...:)
Oh yeah.. This is a legendary song. Great era for Need For Speed.
R.I.P. Saki Kaskas.
You remember NFS 1? There were the Acura nsx, Mazda RX7 and Toyota Supra in it. "Ricers" can also have great style, when they are not overwhelmed with plastic spoilers, bodykits and Nos.
I am Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite music on the Need for Speed franchise. R.I.P Saki Kaskas (1971-2016)

The bass.
@@Blue-Lady At 3:23
@@mewtwo.150 Well that's a Bass.
It’s not a guitar riff. It’s a Roland 303. It’s created a whole sub genre of music called ‘acid’. I like this one in particular because out of all my years listening to acid music this is the most relaxing and atmospheric track I’ve ever heard.
And people wonder why racing games have declined so much....
You will always be remembered Saki Kaskas. Thanks to your music, many of us got into electronic music.
Cheers to honor Saki kaskas for giving the best nostalgic memories FOR THE 90'S NEED FOR SPEED SERIES!
Rest in peace Saki Kaskas!
Searching a car and painting that or modifying a lot of parameters, but always choose McLaren F1 GTR with papaya orange colour. :)
2018 and i still listen to this song 👍🏾💯
2023
The best song of this game by far, can be roaming all day long listening to this song. This melody could fit any racing game, even now after 20 years. So long Saki Kaskas!
only highlighting can pass years and this wonderful game will always be remembered
I would say fantastic music, a game was simple, but the music sounds wonderful after 23 years...
@@vladimirukrainian2268 I agree with you ✌🏽
Ahh yes, this playing while my car is just spinning and spinning and spinning in the car menu on my PC monitor, me staring at it hoping one day I'll own one like it when all grown !!!
Thanks for trip back in time to those innocent days of happiness !!
The best time to listen to this song is while you're driving down a secluded, moonlit road, with your windows down to let the cool breeze stream through you.
wow, that definitely sounds fitting
It's crazy that such an amazingly dope track which was definitely ahead of its time, was pretty much randomly included in this game.
RIP 😢 I have listened to your music from Need for Speed my entire life and will continue too. This music paved the way of what I listen to to this day, it was my childhood.
I guess the 9 people who disliked the song never played NFS or understood proper music
Yup!!
Mass Effect did it sexier.
fabulous.. brilliant.. amazing.. my favorite soundtrack ever, you never get boring of hearing it over and over, Musicians who made it are genius with high level of sense.
It's saki kaskas and amazing is that his genres are heavy metal, punk, rock, folk and so on.
I never experienced playing any of these NFS games, but Oh how I am sooo *grateful* to have come across this music/soundtracks!!!
No te das una idea la nostalgia que nos da a los que si lo hemos jugado en nuestra infancia.
I wasn't even alive when this game came out, but I have played it on my PS2. Yet, this song still evokes emotions in me. The first time I played this game was when I was 18. I can imagine exactly what people would have felt playing it back then. Need for Speed has completely lost this feel.
HOLY SHIT I didnt even know how much i missed this song. man the original NFS series was so amazing.
For those who still remember...
Best soundtrack in the history of music/sound/song/soundtrack
Perfect song to present your own car collection, thank you Saki Kaskas :)
Why can't games go back to music like this? All you hear is Hip Hop or Rock music now a days.
(That i've noticed) It also uses a song from SimCIty 4, when you enter the Citadel's souvenir shop. I played and loved NFS High Stakes some time after it came out, and earing this again so many years later in another game that i also love...It got me totally glued to the screen.
I for one like the rock music in later NFSs (like Hot Pursuit 2, which introduced me to the awesome band Rush).
Joel Araújo Do you mean that the shop in ME2 plays a song from SimCity4?!
This song plays in club Afterlife in Mass Effect 2
Because MUH URBAN MARKET
This is the most memorable song in my mind right now.. Brings back my awesome childhood moments.. I miss this game. :)
“The Song“ for my private car showcase in my garages =) THX Saki for this legendary piece of music art.
The one I really loved was Rom di Prisco’s theme to NFS2 and this one.
Just want to clear up come wrong info in here. The song in Need For Speed: High Stakes was called Callista. It was prompted to play with near 100% certainty when entering a car select deep menu and shared about 75% certainty to play with "Bulbous Swirl" when customizing or upgrading a car in the Career mode. It would also come on when customizing settings of a race (cars, tracks, race) in single player non career modes. It would also come on when viewing replays of a race or at the end of a race when the stats menu appeared. It was not prompted to play when racing. It is also one of a few tracks that did not appear on the official release of the soundtrack.
+Rollerblader1 This song has 2 versions - PC (short) and Play Station (long). In the PC, it plays during the car select menu and car showcase in single player mode and in Play Station it plays during races (sometimes, if the race is very long) and replays (if you lost the race).
R.I.P Saki
This is definitely my preferred level in Omega's Afterlife. So awesome to find out it's from another game entirely. Very classy.
просто лучший ost моей жизни )
I still play this game
Its so Sad to Know that a great talent has passed away so soon :( i cried
You can also listen this one in NHL 06 after game finish (without single-player game winning)
I remember Saki saying in an interview that he had music somewhere in that game. He did sound design work on it too. :)
How did NFS turn from scenic driving, dream cars and old-fashioned car chases to illegal street racing in generic American cities?!
Exactly, there may not be any other NFS like the first four..
Porsche Unleashed and Hot Pursuit 2 are part of the classic series, so it's not street racing in generic American cities.
Hey hey, modern NFS games AREN'T bad. They've got a unique selling point too
Just that we need to have another game as well like High Stakes with actual performance damage.
I miss those days when NFS was all about freedom on the countryside, with cops behind. Now it's all about customization and city street racing. HP 2010 and Rivals tried to bring the old spirit but the latter failed :(
I would pay for a modern NFS with an old school style, High Stakes x Hot Pursuit in an open world.
They need to do like forza and have horizon/normal like old school/new school and switch off years
I listened to the need for speed soundtracks a lot while on vacation this summer.
I remember driving across a half mile long bridge over ocean to get to this island off the coast of Louisiana. I was listening to this while looking across the vast ocean.
There are 2 videos both simulated and real life (i salute the latter version's great effort ! ) playing this music while the driving goes almost endlessly and in a mystical way. Very cooling.
Happy 25th anniversary, Need For Speed!
Sunday drive anthem.
One of the best Need for Speed songs ever! This song/soundtrack/game brings back so many memories from being a kid. RIP Saki Kaskas :(
i love that its on need for speed. but all i can imagine is mass effect 2 shepard nodding his head to this song xD
AydenTheKilla Commander Shepard must own a copy of this game. I wonder if he called it "ancient Earth tech".
Rest In Peace Saki Kaskas.
Καλο παραδισο σακη..
Saki was Greek.. I said to him „good paradise in heaven“
Favorite song in this game
I will never stop listening to this song
These songs and the game are so printed into my mind that i will never forget it.
Se imaginan escuchar esta musica mientras conduces tu coche tarde por la noche con un buen paisaje iluminado.
This is ALWAYS my cabin song in ME2. Every time.
Sometimes we have those game soundtracks who we remember for many years:
- Moon Theme "Ducktales"
- Underwater Theme "Super Mario 64"
- Callista "NFS: High Stakes"
- Final Destination "Smash Bros Melee"
- Home Sweet Home "Beyond: Good & Evil"
- Snake Eater "Metal Gear Solid 3"
+Albion 1977
For me it was this one obviously and
- Go Straight ''Streets of rage 2'' (First song who brought me to Electronic music)
- Corneria ''Smash bros melee''
- Halo Theme ''Halo''
- Encounter ''Metal Gear Solid''
- Green Hill Zone ''Sonic The Hedgehog''
Certain songs seem to hit most of us the same way. Home Sweet Home and Dire Dire Docks that you mentioned are both peaceful and beautiful.
My list:
- Tazer "Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings"
- Ave Maria "Hitman: Blood Money"
- Stranger Things "MDK"
- Paradigm Shifter "NfS IV: High Stakes"
- Short Change "GTA 2"
- Guerilla Radio "Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2"
- Song 2 "FIFA 98"
- Intro Theme "Indycar Racing 2"
- Furious Angels "Grand Prix 3"
- Visa Point "Gothic 3"
Damn, so many Memories..
Fuccckkk this track is so damn good!!! I came across a video showcasing the 2000 Dodge Viper GTS-R concept and it was playing this track over it and it fit perfectly. It just OOZES the 90's off it I love it so damn much!!!
2020 and this soundtreck still awesome!
actually, makes me relax, and seriously I hear this music for more than 9 years almost every day........ it make me think much better.....
rest in peace NFS IV high stakes......
When Electronic Arts was not Hellectronic Farts...
great job bud, you really got em there
This game back in the late 90's was the equivalent of what Forza 4 and GT5 are like today. I miss the old NFS series. HP3 was a step in the right direction, but it was still lacking that feel that NFS IV brought.
this soundtrack is moody, sexy, exotic and classy
This game has to be remastered
And not by fucking Criterion either.
Sadly they wont be remastering this instead they decided to remaster criterions hot pursuit which is unnecessary
my favorite one from NFS HS....mmm what a music
this soundtrack reminds me on the 90s so much...
so sad nostalgia feeling
oooooh the memories I would stop driving just to enjoy this song
cruel justice same bro
What a beautiful composition
Just a beautiful memories , make me back at 1998" driving the bmw m5 on need for speed
Oh me to i loved the music to NFS especially this song ,I miss playing it
Mass Effect 2 brought me here, and I see I ain't alone.
Select Car : BMW M5 then go showcase and then listen to that man that has awesome voice represents BMW M5... OMG man, damn. My childhood...
This song could be played on the races in the PSX version. One of the reasons why High Stakes is awesome. Awesome song, incredible. The PSX version > PC Version
This song aged well! Still gold in my books! lol
I fell in love with this song because of NFS: High Stakes... but then as I got older it was forgotten through my years....
All the way up until I got a Xbox 360 and played Mass Effect 2, and Club Afterlife brought this song back to my memory

They also re-add this song to the new Need For Speed 2015 game.
They did.
+Filmore1991 It plays when you're in the garage. While I was customizing my car, this
song started playing and I immediately recognized it because I had heard
it so many times. I was so surprised that they would use a song from
such an old game. The nostalgia hit me hard AF. I really appreciate EA
for including this song in the game. An excellent song from a legendary
game that I will never forget. This game was basically my gateway into
the NFS series.
I just wanted to take a minute to say how great it felt hearing this song after such a long time.
DannyzPlay Just cool to belive they'll go that far to bring back the song once more.
I just stayed in the shop to hear this amazing and relaxing track.
