North Germany slagheap Walking | Excursion destinations
The Norddeutschland spoil tip is a spoil tip of the Niederberg mine in Neukirchen-Vluyn. The mine finished filling the slag heap in March 2001. The slag heap, which is considered a burning slag heap, has a surface area of 81 hectares and is 102 meters high at its highest point. The slag heap contains 80 million tons of rock. The slag heap also has a stairway to heaven, which provides direct access to the top of the slag heap. This involves climbing 52 meters in altitude. In places, the stairway rises up from the ground like a bridge to run in a straight line and protect existing vegetation such as reeds. The slag heap can be seen from the 57 federal highway. The most striking feature is the "Hallenhaus" on one of the peaks. The skeletal house in the form of a steel frame is a work of art by the Dutch group "Observatorium", which has also designed other landmarks and objects in the Ruhr region. (Wikipedia)
