No, everyone needs limits. The Limit is the safe zona for pets. They need clear limits. If they think everything is possible, they get confused and they don't know when to stop. Sometimes it is necessary strong tune voice. My alfa dog has more difficulties to understand limits. When the word NO is not enough I put a bad face, bad voice and get him and put him alone in his bed. And I keep him there with a bad face. It is not possible to take out my eyes out of their eyes. He needs to understand who is command. At the beginning it was necessary a lot of time. Now it is easier. They test commands and the comander all the time. Maybe all animals have this behavior, I am not sure. Animals have diferent personalities. It is the first time I see a prairie dog. I don't know anything about them. Dogs and children need limits all the time. I love Poppy. Maybe she is just jealous. Paxton is calmer, maybe it get her crazy. It is not easy for her l
share all parents attention which was all for her and now she has a brother. But since the beginning Dad told several time that this kind of dogs are destructive and receive NO can be traumatic. Dad is teaching and learn behavior it is not easy for children, realize for fur babies. I love all her reactions, including when she needs difficult lessons. So, try to accept her limits. She is not a monster. She is just a daughter receiving a Big NO from her Dad. Most of time it hurts more in my heart to say no for my dogs than to them. In 5 seconds they want to play and I feel I am the monster of the story. Believe, it is horrible.

Maybe she is acting out . I know it takes a while for animals to get use to each other . Dogs are that way at least. Just like children they get jealous. So I would assume other animals do too. Hopefully Poppy accepts Paxton @@poppytheprairiedog

THANK YOU for showing the CONSTANT SUPERVISION & CARE REQUIRED! as a former rehabber, 35 yrs, i have Te-wa, the flying squirrel. altho the love of my life, her "cage" is my entire bedrm that has a screen door, with my bed canopy being tree limbs, hollow logs hanging on wall, on top of furniture, everything to be in the woods, and she is potty trained. every evening she is allowed in rest of house with constant supervision, follows commands like a cat, goes 20 mph. saved her as infant and 5 1/2 yrs later... people do not need to have wildlife. i'm retired and can mess with her 24/7 & when she calls from the screen door, i'm there. love her dearly. - y'all are great, watch u daily and they are cute when "fussing, altho would tear you apart and folks need to see that! (from S. mid TN,).

It shouldn't have been a big problem for her to accept Paxton since they are highly social in the wild. Maybe it's just the rut still. Paxton is a boy and they are keeping them apart still, perhaps adding stress to the situation. I hope she gets better soon! ❤❤
I believe in a different video the other day, he said that she was just finishing up going through rut(im not sure if i spelled that correctly), which is like a heat cycle, and that she gets extra cranky during it which would explain her behaivior in this video.

Yes! 😂 that's why so many species of animals, especially wild ones, are not meant to be pets, but this is clearly an exception. I don't know how they ended up with 2 prairie dogs, but they're really lucky. I'm guessing they help with a wildlife sanctuary or help wild animals who can't be released back into the wild or something like that?🤔 Either way, i absolutely LOVE poppy and Paxton. They're so adorable. I also find it fascinating when a wild animal can actually be cared for by a person or family, in niche circumstances like this, but in a situation where both the humans, and the animal especially, are able to be happy and get along great, and stay safe, even though it's not the best option for the animals in 99% of cases. There's definitely something special with these 2 adorable prairie dogs.

@@77777sadie oh ok. That's sad, but at least they are so happy where they are now. I can tell just by watching their shorts on RUclips. That doesn't excuse the previous owners for neglecting them, but I'm glad they are doing better now

Lots of small animals seem high maintenance such as chinchillas and guinea pigs too.

guinea pigs take *a lot* of cleaning, their health is pretty delicate, and if you give them enough room to really run and all they can take a fair amount of space. they're incredibly sweet and fun though
Same with my bunnies, they are like guinea pigs have sensitive stomachs and not easy to look after, she's11 years old and blind, and her husbun has EC head tilt @sylvan3176

Poppy's owner has spoken about how destructive she is long before he rescued Paxton. Both prairie dogs needed a home because their respective former owners couldn't care for them. Both were born in captivity ... but this video shows us why prairie dogs should stay on the prairies rather than live in urban apartments.
I don't think rodents get jealous, they just wanna chomp on everything 24/7 and don't you dare not let them eat your house.
I haven't encountered one animal yet, except maybe some reptiles, who don't get jealous. 😂

It always scares me when people only see the cute videos that they will think taking care of these babies is all rainbows and sunshine and they get one and find out it's alot of time and effort to take care of these precious babies. Be thankful you don't have an eastern grey squirrel like me. They are extremely fast angry ninjas. 😂

A little dab of apple vinigar should keep Poppy from chewing on your stuff. Anything she is chewing on or obsessed with, take a qu-tip and dip it into the apple cider vinigar and put it very lightly onto the surface area of said stuff. The smell should be enough to make her want to avoid it and find something else.

Unfortunately, I am afraid that Poppy is much more upset about Paxton moving in than seems reasonable to us humans. Hence the lashing out and taunting destruction suddenly? Either she thinks Paxton is taking away the 100% attention and love, and quality time, that Poppy is used to getting from Paul and Breen. Or the male Paxton has accidentally woken up some mating hormones, which we saw in last week's "kiss" video when Poppy turns her back for Paxton, and Paxton panics and runs to Paul. Not Paxton's fault, he's been through heck from the previous owner's neglect, then the amputation. Maybe try to move Paxton's cage out of sight (and out of sniffing range), and reintroduce again, but slower, and maybe with a weekend with Paxton away, this time? You guys are doing a great job, it's a very tough situation!
