as some one who plays excellent defenseman and wingers, I always feel lost as a center and where I should be, this and your offensive positioning was a ton of help and cannot wait to play center tonight
love this video never really understood what the centers job is. I always play defense. do u have any videos about the neutral zone and offensive zone for defense?
Missed this comment when you posted it. The offensive tutorial I have along side this one covers defensive positioning when in the offensive zone. It's not a 100% thorough look into it, but check it out, and if you have any other questions let me know.
I honestly don't think so. It's an absolute crapshoot as to whether or not the AI tries from one game to the next. Some people swear by high pressure, but from my experience, it's just as big of a toss up as normal.
I don't at the moment, but it's something I could look into making. There are 3 main strategies (Diamond, Box and Triangle), but their successes depend on whether or not you have AI players.
5 years later I still play this game In a 10 minute game I usually give up about 8 goals I've been trying for years to play better D🤦 Hopefully these tips will help
When I play my wingers don't drop down. What strategies work best in order to get what you say in the vidd to work properly? I feel like my players get caught in their positions constantly.
I am talking about A.I not helping me out, they are locked in their positions and only focus on their guy and don't help me take down the puck carrier.
+XDoomriderX Unfortunately, I can't really suggest anything in good faith, because I can't guarantee that anything would help. From my experience, the AI simply doesn't listen, regardless of what settings you put them on in most instances. The only settings that seemingly have some effect are the forecheck setting, and defensive pressure (only if you put them on high pressure, but even that's 50/50). The only thing I can suggest, and I might catch some flack from HUT players, when you're playing defense (in HUT or club), take control of your center, and simply stay in the slot like I mentioned in the video. Don't panic and attempt to rapidly change players, that's only going to cause more issues. Do your best to cover cross creases and high quality shots, and pray in the meantime that you get lucky enough to have your AI actually attempt to defend.
Tougie24 I know about the "skillzone" strategy, but I don't use it. Thanx for your reply :D I try to control the guy closest to the puck as much as possible but I always feel a lack of support from my A.I. However sometimes when I play others their A.I is crazy and chases me, box me in and also makes perfect checks and I am confused about that lol! The D strategy I have used most have been Collapse and high preassure. However the past days it has not been working for me for some strange reason. But where I have been suffering the most is on my offense which I was a beast at over a week ago, but now it seems like the A.I of the people I play against are playing on a much higher level so I can never get the shots I want. Maybe I am just having a bad period where my brain is malfunctioning or something HAHAA!
+XDoomriderX Yeah, I hate the term "skill zone". People use it in a sarcastic manner, but I'm sorry, it's a legitimate strategy. The people who complain are just salty. As far as what you described, I'm right there with you. I hate to talk about it online, simply because it seems like complaining. But legitimately, there are games where one team's AI is clearly better. And sometimes those games string together.
I know this video is older, but as a guy who really doesn’t understand hockey, and I seem to have a hard time finding a balance in difficulty sliders in this game (seems like after adjusting sliders either I blow out the ai or vice versa) hopefully this will help.
Offline play is a completely different animal. The only thing I can really suggest is to watch the slot (the area in front of the net) heavily. The CPU will abuse shots from the slot on most difficulties.
Thanks for the help bro, I really needed this. I am new to the game and this was the first year I got it as soon as it came out. I am playing Be A Pro, and even though I can't get a slap shot off when I want to (I have praticed it forEVER), I ended up drafted by the Devs after 1 year of the minors. I also ended up 3rd in the league in goals and assists and won Rookie of the Year. I was also in the running (top 3 for a few other awards). Problem is I so need help with this game. I play HUT and have 2 4 star teams but unfortunately, it has me on superstar and I'M NOT THAT GOOD YET. If you are on xbox can you please help a cat out. Even though you see me with a Sabres Jersey I'm a die hard Bruins fan and an ex-goalie. Have a great day bro, hope you can help
+Patrik Hodapp (Hody) There isn't, and I'll be completely honest as to why.....checking is an absolute crapshoot this year. I simply don't have the answers, beyond getting into good position and praying to the EA Gods. And unfortunately, most of the time that you have someone lined up perfectly, you're still likely to miss....at least in my experiences.
It seems impossible to check anybody, as the turn away or sidestep all the time or my player is either to fast or too slow. No clue how I ever get up the checking of my pro
i was going to send this video out to my 6 & 7 year old team to watch......then I heard what was said at 4:38 probably no going to go over to well with the parents.
So....I might be wrong, haven't watched this video in a while.....but did I say the center HAS to stay in the slot? I don't recall, maybe I did. But this video, quite obviously, showcases a basic zone defense. One that works both in real life, and in EASHL. Never said this was the only efficient way to play. But hey, if you like to run around as a center, good on ya. I'd hate to see how often you blame your defenders for goals against though, when they're probably your fault.
well i am a center playing in the ncaa so i might know a thing or two. The thing I know is this video is based off 1-2-2 forecheck. What happens if the other team plays a 2-1-2 and the puck goes in the corner off a 50/50 battle? 1 defender goes to the puck while 2 forecheckers go to the puck as well? Forecheckers are gonna win that unless the defender makes a ridiculously good play, which doesnt happen often if at all unless the defender is so skilled.. Basically the way defense works down low is rotations with support from the 2nd man closest to the puck down low.. It's also dependent if player/also wants to play collapsing wings to support the d down low, or have them cover the points tightly, but open up the slot. Center is essentially a third dman and they literally have to be the best skater on the ice cause once the puck is passed to the winger, the center has to be there in support.. the role of a centerman is not staying in the slot .

Awesome video man! Been looking for videos like the for my current club. Keep up the good work!
+xfabex7 Thanks. Have a decent list of tutorials already planned, if there's anything you'd like to see specifically, let me know!
Awesome stuff. I now know what I'm going to be doing for the next several hours.
Great vid..subbed!
This really helped, thanks
+Andrew Rizz Glad you found it useful, thanks for checking it out!
instant sub great breakdown

Great video. I dont play online but I want to get better in the be a pro mode. Hope I can take some of your tips to heart.
Great tutorial!
Great video man! You need more views lol
+Vol Fan Xman Appreciate it. I'm content at the moment, 3k views on a video is definitely above my expectations.
Does it matter whether your defense is staggered, collapsing or tight coverage? If so, which type of the defenses mentioned do you recommend?
I honestly don't think so. It's an absolute crapshoot as to whether or not the AI tries from one game to the next. Some people swear by high pressure, but from my experience, it's just as big of a toss up as normal.
You have a vid on how to defend when you`re on the PK?
I don't at the moment, but it's something I could look into making. There are 3 main strategies (Diamond, Box and Triangle), but their successes depend on whether or not you have AI players.
If you can have a vid that explains how to play each of them, that'd be cool. Thanks
hope the noobs in drop ins will watch your vids..lol good job buddy!!

+XDoomriderX I'm assuming you're talking about AI not being in proper position?

is there a tutorial on how to body check?

Yeah, tough call lol. Had I made this video today, rather than nearly a year ago, I definitely would've held back on the swearing.
Well lol... I can already tell this is wrong based off the 1:19 chart LOL. The center doesn't always stay in the center of the ice.
So....I might be wrong, haven't watched this video in a while.....but did I say the center HAS to stay in the slot? I don't recall, maybe I did. well this doesnt help because the ai teamates dont do this
Well, it was mean't more for 5+ man teams. But generally, even with AI, knowing where you should be playing is always a plus.
lol glitch goals
Don't even understand the rules of this sport
Why'd u watch then
Lol I only play the game
Awesome stuff. I now know what I'm going to be doing for the next several hours.
