Kim, honestly, you need to hear this, in such an early state of the game with a million questions, endless year old reddit posts that are no longer viable, and no answers anywhere even off twitch streams, these videos hit so hard! Appreciate the tips! keep it up.
I think they need to take the New World approach to skinning. Give us a skinning knife, and as our level and quality of knife increases, the quality of skin we get and drop rate increases. Similar to chopping and mining. Stone gives small hides, iron gives regular, wrought iron gives a decent drop rate of premium hide, and steel would guarantee it. Then higher level animals could also just determine the drop rate as well.
16-20 is a bit of a pain, have to get our blacksmith making a LOT of wrought-iron buckles. Personally going with the headband not the bracers as it's a lot cheaper on hides to make. TBF, so long as you can make wrought iron, getting to 20 is not so bad. We are farming the rough hides from the wolf caves, something that we can do easily in a three now we have a few a heal over time, the healing coif, one Gambeson (atm, we can easily get more now) and 1 set of cantor pants for light + defense buff & 0.5 regen We can get between the three of us about 160 rough hides in ~90 mins which essentially is is filling our inventory with hides, colars etc... ATM before Tuesday 2nd patch, we are getting about 10-12 orange hides, which is painful given that everything post 20 needs boiled + combining orange hides below 20 is not guarenteed!
Not too many. We were having a couple others push leatherworking up behind me, so they cleaned up some of the lower stuff. And our weapon and armorsmiths are always needing our leather bands. Easy to use up stuff that way.
We actually farm them from growlers, grand old boar, and direwolves. They drop the small animal hide and I turn it into Large at the workbench. You can get Large to drop straight from bears, but we go as a group and find hunting the packs is quicker for us than bears. I made a video about it, if you search up in my profile it's there.
Are you only killing regular wolves? We've found they drop from direwolves, growlers, and grand old boars regularly. Not regular wolves. In caves, there should be some growlers, but the drop rate is very low. We go to the orange forest biome and make a loop to kill a bunch of different pack spawns for our hides. We get anywhere between 25-30 small animal hide in about an hour. I'd have to ask my math guy the numbers again. He worked it all out. It's still slow but quicker than anywhere else we've found if with a group. Solo, you can cheese black bears. I made a video on these hides if you want to check it out!
@@1nvaderk1m hi. Thanks and yes we've done the wolf caves a couple times and have only got 2 hides so far. I haven't found where the dire wolves spawn or at least haven't seen any but I'm still exploring. I've cheeses several black bears and infected and have not got a drop from them either. So far since launch we have got 2 orange hides lol. Gonna go looking for dire wolves again today but I'll be alone so it might not be possible. Thanks for the info.
@@kevinsb70 Kevin I would recommend finding couple players to go out to direwolves and grand old bears. I recommend maces and sheilds and rotate your stuns. We can kill them but we do take some damage so we use our heals after every pull to heal up before we run to next pack=

What a grind!
WOOOOOOOOOOOO thanks for the new video
Go clear wolf caves. Growlers have chance to drop the animal hides
If grinding orange hides doesn't kill me I think I might just live forever
That shit is crazy hard to get
@@jaredhouser9418 we've been pulling it off but it takes time and some sweaty palms 💯
@@jaredhouser9418 wdym? bears drop em every time
Thanks K1m.
Curious how many Chests you have dedicated to your stockpiles of materials?

So with the armor we make to level up can we do anything with it if we dont use it ourselves and aren't in a clan?
I have a question where do you get the T2 large animal hide

Do the infested animals drop the hides yet? I'm new and don't want to spam the devs with feedback/bugs if it's been fixed :)
I cant get orange hides to ever drop. No matter how many wolves I kill in caves or around them I usually get regular hide.

They will show/unlock when you get the "To Eradicate, Abstract iv" drop from an Entranced Exorcist.
