  • This video forms part 2 ( of 4 ) about the visit of the X2000 Tilt Train to New South Wales ( Australia ) that was brought over from Sweden in 1995 , I have my Father's permission to upload this video that he did of it's visit to Gosford showing it's "Demonstration" to the public to the North of Sydney , the train was parked on the "up main" during this "demo" & partially blocked the "down main" when the "demo" was under way & you'll get to see a glimpse of a South bound freight train returning back to Sydney from the Northern end of the yards headed by loco's 8153 & 8103 plus a shot from inside each power car , 2 XPT power cars were used to haul this set from Sydney to Canberra & return ( XP2000 & XP2019 ) however only 1 of these were used in this demo at Gosford N.S.W. but I don't know as to which power car was on the leading end of this train in this video ; My video from on board the Tilt Train to Canberra was taken on a VHS-C camera & will be uploaded as soon as I can get it transferred to digital form then part 4 will be to do with my "attempt" at modelling this train in HO scale so "stay tuned" if possible.
Part 3 is • X2000 Tilt Train journ... if you wish to see it.

@@happyemoji1646 They put our sad sorrowful sacks of crap to shame, our fleets should’ve been replaced in 2000 -> 2010 for The XPT & 2015 for The XPL Fleets, to see both these fleets continue to 2025, only another 15Yrs behind the expected retirement date of The X2000 TiltTrain is saying a lot...

I don't know why they did this. It's not as if the NSW government has ever actually wanted people to use regional trains. They only exist because it's politically impossible to get rid of them. If they were faster, more people might use them, then there could be demands for more services, which would require increased subsidies.

@@AusLegoBoy I doubt most people realise the extent to which regional train services have to be subsidised.

I feel that it was to accommodate the Swedish tilt train carriages so that they wouldn't snag when tilting into corners at high speeds but that's my guess as I do recall someone mentioning that to me some years ago.

When did they borrow the tilt train and where from?

    • @Locoman3801

Hi Neil , The N.S.W. railways had borrowed the Tilt Train "trial set" from the Sweedish rail people in 1995 & it was "on loan" to the N.S.W. railways ( Countrylink ) & the then N.S.W. govt to decide if they would buy a set or 2 for use on the Australian railway system , however only Queensland decided that it'd be a great addition to their fleet of trains & their design was altered just for their system from what I know of it or something along those lines.

@@Locoman3801 Queensland's electric tilts were derived from the Japan Railways Shikoku 8000 series EMU and were built in Australia (Walkers Ltd in Maryborough) in a partnership between Evans Deakin, Hitachi and Itochu. The QR tilts were already planned and in development before Countrylink's X2000 trials.

Nope , these are High speed trains that were purpose built trains in Sweeden , 3 representative units were brought from Sweeden for "trials" in N.S.W. & were hauled by 2 N.S.W XPT power cars while they were here in Australia.
