No one who has sung this song, and a lot of greats have done so, managed to express being torn apart by the conflicting and overwhelming emotions her persona is feeling like Dorothy Collins. You see them battling in her facial and vocal expression. I think that if I had seen _Follies_ in the theater, I would have had to leave after this to explode in sobs in the lobby or on the sidewalk.
THIS IS IT!! NOBODY has done it better. I thought my only shot of watching her sing this "live" was on the Mike Douglas show. THANK YOU for giving us this rendition WITH full orchestra!!
🎹 I Heard Dorothy sing this song at the Winter Harden theater in Steven Sondheim's musical, Follies and she was glorious. No one has ever sung this song better ❤
I received tickets for this show as my 20th birthday present in 1971; my birthday was in January but the show did not open for its preview Broadway tryouts in Boston until the spring, and I was in a state of such incredible excitement about it. I will never forget Dorothy Collins singing this song, or Yvonne DiCarlo singing "I'm Still Here." Years later I saw the London premiere in 1987, with Julia McKenzie playing the part of Sally. And she was very good, but not quite good enough to make me forget Miss Collins.
Many performers overthink, overact or oversing this song. This is DEFINITIVE.
This is got to be the best performance of this song❤

I saw this show in 1971-72 with the marvelous original cast. My very favorite, and I saw it 24 times. Loved it so much.

Damn this hit
Doesn't it😢😢😢 brings back some difficult memories.
I saw her in the original production Dressed in a silvery black sequined gown against a black backdrop with a solo spotlight. ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATING.
