Sonic the Hedgehog was created by Sega back In 1991 as the new face of their company. Back then, Sega’s mascot was Alex Kidd, and the company didn’t think he was a strong enough character to give Nintendo’s flagship character Mario a run for his money. Sega went on to develop the blue hedgehog, alongside Doctor Ivo Eggman Robotnik, who became his arch nemesis. So you can imagine that the other characters in Sonic’s history have an interesting background as well. Which is why we’ve created a list of the top 10 sonic characters before and after. Let’s jump in!

I hate what Sonic has become in the 2010s decade personally. Also Top10 Gaming you know despite your love for the series you make way too many mistakes about it. Amy was featured a lot more than you give Credit for in the Classic Era being in Sonic CD (the only of the 5 she wasn't playable in), both Sonic Drift games, Sonic R, & Sonic the Fighters. Which is more than Fang who was only playable in 2 games that Amy was also playable in (Drift 2 & Fighters), & fought in Triple Trouble & Mania (from 2017), with a cameo in Tails Adventures in the form of an item.
Other mistakes are made in the videos that rank Sonic Characters, such as half the characters in the Top 10 Worst Characters video not even really belonging on there. The video was supposedly made in 2017, a time when characters much worse than Elise had come into existence such as Lyric the snake who was so awful they had to kill him off in Boom & then try to bury his existence. Some of the Deadly 6 members are also hated more than Elise just because of how much they suck as characters. Then With Orbot & Cubot there really was no reason Silver, Cream, or Amy should have even been candidates for that list.
The Top10 Female Character list video also has problems like the name & image suggesting they were being ranked on attractiveness rather than overall how good they are as characters. Neither of those orderings could justify Sticks being ranked 3rd, while 1 of them brings into question the issue of Cream being only 6 in the main series. Also Sonic has been part of 6 Console Generations now.

Amy Rose was created in response to a request from the character division of SEGA’s licensing business, who wanted a character that could be the "Minnie" to Sonic's "Mickey". However, at the time it was felt that it would go against Sonic's personality for him to be locked into a standard cartoon relationship like Mickey and Minnie. Therefore, it was decided that a one-way relationship, where Amy's affection for Sonic is unrequited, would be more interesting.
Naoto Ohshima, Sonic’s co-creator, created Amy Rose’s original design, which was then finalized by Kazuyuki Hoshino. According to Hoshino, there were many voices involved in the creation of the character, including staff members from various departments and editors of the then upcoming manga series. Amy's head piece and trainers reflect Naoto Ohshima's taste, while her mannerisms reflect the kind of traits Kazuyuki Hoshino looked for in women at the time.
Amy Rose made her video game debut in 1993's Sonic the Hedgehog CD, as a non-playable character. In this game she is an 8 year old hedgehog girl kidnapped by the new antagonist, Metal Sonic. In the Japanese release, she was primarily known by her nickname Rosy the Rascal, although it is still stated that her real name is Amy Rose.
Amy was later redesigned by Yuji Uekawa for the premiere of Sonic Adventure which came out for the SEGA Dreamcast back in 1998 and her age was officially changed from 8 to 12.

I'm with Shadow on this, Sonic has been out of character for the entire 2010s decade. I know this has to do with Pontac & Graff 2 writers who never should have been hired to begin with, as well as Roger Craig Smith not really fitting the role of Sonic. We can only hope the 2020s manage to fix Sonic back to the character we could actually take seriously & not the lame joke he's been reduced to for an entire decade.

Big The Cat was actually on Sonic Adventure (DREAMCAST) in 1999. predating the DX version by 2-3 years.

That's exactly what I thought. You know, team rose is a lot like the characters in My neighbor Totoro. Think about it, a polite, fun loving little girl, an older girl whose like her loving sister and a big furry, animal loving cat creature. Sega and Studio Ghibli are both Japanese, so maybe it was intentional, like team rose was inspired by the characters from My neighbor Totoro.

Knuckles is the best, because of his ability to glide, his super strength (you can break a rock wall if you walk up to it), having his own routes, a cool design, and his own mode in Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, which didn't become a problem for me.
Amy isn't meant to be his companion Amy is meant to be a character.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sonic's real name is Sonic Nettlemouse. We only know him as Sonic the Hedgehog, but I don't think "the Hedgehog" is a part of his real name.

Captain_Mario Some of the games being poorly made doesn't make the character bad. Sonic is a legendary character design, a success story in marketing and breaking a market which was dominated by Nintendo. Mario's design just kind of... happened. He was just a placeholder sprite without any personality, and basically still is. Mario is successful because of the well designed and innovative games he's in.

I'm a fan of Sonic but I'm not a fan of Sonic Generations and Sonic Forces because Sonic is not the same Sonic from his past and Modern Sonic didn't act like himself from the past at all in a Sonic level and sometimes I don't want them to meet because it would ruin Sonic for me! I will still play it though if I want to.
