  • Travel video about destination Sibenik in Croatia.
On Croatia’s Mediterranean-like coast, one of Dalmatia’s most beautiful cities is situated within a sheltered bay, the mediaeval city of Šibenik. Sveti Jakov, the Holy Jakob Cathedral, was its architectural masterpiece and today the most important sacred Renaissance building in Dalmatia. The oldest of the city’s three castle complexes has a magnificent view across the red tiled roofs of the old town. Where today a cemetery occupies this strategic location, this was once the defensive centre of the city until the fortress that was located here was destroyed by lightning. From 1797 to 1918 Šibenik was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, interrupted by a short period of French occupation. Next, the Second World War, and then numerous warring factions. Outside the remains of the double city walls and a Franciscan monastery church, is a small monastery garden, a tranquil place whose splendour captivates and reminds those who come here of the city’s long and dramatic history. Today it is a splendid mirror that reflects the city’s dramatic and colourful past.

Šibenik is the third-largest city in the historic region of Dalmatia. Dalmatia is one of the four historical regions of Croatia, alongside Croatia proper, Slavonia and Istria. Šibenik is the oldest native Croatian town on the shores of the sea. Did you know that it has recently become one of the few (around 10) cities in the world with 2 UNESCO sights? St Jacob cathedral and St Nicholas fortress which is being renewed...

Greetings of Šibenik.❤️ Šibenik is an old Croatian royal town from at least 9 centuries (built by Croats) with two national parks (Krka and Kornati)
Kornati paradise for boaters with about 150 islands. 🌞🇭🇷 Šibenik - on this side of the Adriatic no city has a larger old town, the city of 4 fortresses, the famous Cathedral of St. James (UNESCO). From the sea side to enter the city, you have to go through the canal of St. Anthony about 2 km long which guards the fortress of St. Nicholas, also under UNESCO. Entrance to the NP. Krka 14 km away. The city that was the first in Europe to receive electric lighting and the second in the world 🇭🇷🇭🇷

Ya, um, it's NOT AT ALL, and never been Slovenian! This was an untrue shocker. Lol, quite a big mistake. The video is well done, but you gotta do your homework when it comes to history and facts...

lol.....to begin with, the tittle is misleading : this is hardly a "Vacation Travel Video Guide"....unless you're some kind of history student hahaha...it's packed with pictures of museums, lots of gloomy inside of church shown as well as the graveyard...and tons of other info that travelers have no interest in....and wrong too : not Slovenian city, they're a nation themselves, maybe you thought Slavic ? Sorry, dislike.
