High G landings are a bit different though. Really don't want to use vertical thrusters on a planet with 1 or more Gs the trick there is to land more like you would with a bulky airplane (given that the surroundings accept it) and toggling flight assist on and off quickly for decent.
5+ g planets I tend to go down like SpaceX does with their boosters. land with the nose looking up till I'm almost at the ground and then basically just falling forward till i'm on the ground :)

Hi, thanks for these very good explanations which make up for the lack of tutorials in elite dangerous.
As for the final phase, which consists of landing, the game is really badly designed as soon as you have a slightly large ship and the terrain isn't as flat as a billiard table.
Personally, I do exobiology with a Sidewinter (from a fleet carrier) so I can land just about anywhere I want, even in rough terrain.
That said, a little tip if you try to land (the indicator disc is blue) but as you descend the last few metres the disc changes back to orange with the message "unsuitable terrain": instead of repositioning the ship, simply vary the orientation of the ship (yaw) to the left or right, gently. This will reposition your landing gear and possibly change the disc back to blue.

Great video again. Learnt a bit even afyer allcthe years playing.. only thing i would add is under your co ordinates (which would be worth
Mentioning) is the planets gravity indicated
At least im pretty sure thats what it is... if its higher than 1 you need to be extra careful
Inbfact higher than 0.5 ibstart to be extra cautious

Thorough, no frills and easy to follow. The right way to produce a 'How To' video. Subbed for the quality here.

What's the best way to land closer to a particular place on a planet's surface?

    • @Mile13Gaming

If you're trying to go to a particular point of interest on the planet, my advice would be this:
      - Target the POI in your nav panel or HUD
      - Head for the planet at an angle where the target is like halfway between the middle of the planet and the upper edge, so that you can come in at a 45-degree (or lesser) angle towards your target, rather than straight down. That way, you can keep an angle that will enable glide.
      - If that angle is good, then just monitor your speed and head right for the target
Hopefully I understood your question. If not, let me know!

Great guid for noobies. I remember first few times, coming out of glide mode thinking it wasn't going to exit and crash into the planet. :)

    “Several millennia” Lol
And it might conveniently park 2km away

Huh all this time I’ve been listening to the sounds on approach to avoid crashing out of glide. Thanks for the tip on the speed indicator.
One other important thing, especially on larger planets, is the “G” indicator at the bottom of the descent height indicator.
Five G’s will ruin your day if unprepared.

Great video, I actually learned something after playing for 4 years. Clicked to critique and ended up learing instead.

I think the real mystery is why autoland when recalling the ship many of the time like to put down where there are boulders and hence block the buggy when there is a perfectly flat spot nearby. I have had to get out of my buggy, board the ship, move ite five meters and land again. Hmm?

Nice presentation of the information. Suggestion: Do it again on a planet that is in daylight. Doing it in reduced light is certainly useful, but being able to see for the basic instruction would also be great. :)
    Thanks again for posting this.

You do an excellent job of explaining E:D concepts in a clear, concise manner.
Thank you. I especially appreciate the fact that you use the in-game words for certain things.
I can’t tell you how long it took me to figure out what the hell people meant by “honking” a system.
Elite is a very complex game to learn, and while the community is very willing to help, they tend to skim over the absolute basics.
    Earned a sub 👍🏻

Thank you so much! And I agree - the community is one of the main reasons I love this game as much as I do. If there's anything else you'd like to see a video for, please let me know! I'm always looking for ideas!

@@Mile13Gaming I think a video on the galaxy map could be super useful. There appears to be a lot of information in it, but I find interacting with it to be confusing and cumbersome.
Also, a good video series (because there is so much to it) could be combat in the game. I get so confused about combat missions vs mercenary vs freelancer, etc etc. So videos going over each type of combat mission could be awesome. 👏🏻

I second this one! For me its also confusing, even tho I already played 150h. @@mrobmusic65

The only thing I do differently is to lower the landing gear at approx 1.5 - 2km above surface, and it all breaks down nicely. You've made some great videos!

I played this game for 2k hours and it was still informative. I didn't know about the speed meter on the right... I just set throttle to 50% and prayed basically.
