  • Can this 60g Alpha Hoodie by Senchi Design keep you warm, even though it appears to be made OF holes? Is Polartec Alpha Direct worth the hype?

I recently purchased the Senchi 90 hoodie with front quarter zipper. I like the zippered version because I can open the zipper and dump out excess heat. I can comfortably wear this up to 55'sh F when paired with a long sleeve base layer (maybe 60 if I open the zipper). Last week I did a section hike on the AT between Hot Springs, NC and Erwin, TN. I wore a lightweight Smartwool long sleeve base layer with the Sench 90 hoodie. The Temps were in the low to mid 30's. This system worked fantastic as long as I was climbing hills and working hard, but when I swung around the side of a mountain and was hit with strong winds (or stopped), I'd get a bit chilled. I thought this Senchi would have stunk after a day or two or hiking (not merino wool), but it actually held up quite well. I was pleasantly surprised. I love this mid-layer and is my go-to system until they invent something better.

The 'coolest' thing about your video is getting the kids out into the mountains.

@@rootsandpeaks Yeah it’s just a guy, I think his name is Justin that makes them, but it has a cool hood/face flap thing with customizable button colors on it. It also has the option for a kangaroo pocket which is super helpful. There’s a few week lead time though, but it’s sweet.

Hi RP! Would you size it up? So L instead of M? So many people say that for Polartec Alpha in general, now I'm unsure. Especially because I'd need to order it from the US to Europe. So no chance to cheaply try a size. Liked your content, keep it up!

I think the fit is similar to microgrid, which usually runs about a half size smaller. So, if you normally take a medium, I’d suggest a large. Good luck! And let me know how it fits you!

I have one that looked exactly the same from the brand ACG (Nike) and it came already ripped so I returned it. Now I feel bad about it

Was it a “Wolf Lichen” from ACG? I’m curious about those. They don’t say they are alpha direct, but it looks really similar.

yeah, it was exactly that model on the color green and looks very similar to the one in the video in terms of the design, even had a bag to carry it. and also sported the polartec logo. @@rootsandpeaks

I mean it was a nice jacket and could have just ordered another one after returning the faulty one, but I thought that if it wasn´t sturdy enough to arrive in good condition maybe it wasn't gonna last for a hike. but now that I see your video and that it is an established technology from polartec that works, I feel bad for not ordering another one @@rootsandpeaks

@@user-wr8qh9si9x weirdly, they don’t say if it is Alpha Direct. It might be something specifically made for Nike.
