PROMISING STAIRS WIN: Since you asked, I did win several times with the win-con Promising Stairs in casual store matches in the meantime. Lock and unlock the central elevator to fetch the Greenhouse for mana fixing and then every other room you want to use at that moment. The deck is mostly blue control/white life gain and some really old cards surprisingly: Teardrop Kami is perfect. You sac it to tap or untap target creature and then simply lock and unlock the Awakening chamber to get them all back to the battlefield. I have some Aphetto Alchemist's in there as well to also untap artifacts if needed for additional mana fixing when the Greenhouse isn't out yet. Oh, and Madness cards work pretty well here. When having Marina's Grimoire out, you loose a card for every damage you take. Discard the Madness cards and cast them for less costs without actually loosing them ...
I'm building this deck myself, I also thought of Thassa first, but I completly forgot about Displacer Kitten, so Thx for that one. I'm glad you mentionned Zur Eternal Schemer, in the same idea I added Bello, Bard of the Brambles and Anikthea to be more aggressive and proactive in the game. On top of the thousand year elixir, i'm also playing Patriar's Seal, and for my twist of the deck, i'm playing Enigmatic Incarnation and Hallowed Haunting.
I'm actually planning to use Kenrith as Commander in a Rooms deck, with Marina in the 99. Rooms, walls, gates. The decks name is 'Dont let the Doors hit you on the way out' The idea is to set up a bunch of rooms, set up a creature wipe, then animate the house and swing in for lethal.
I run a bunch of pillowfort stuff, especially Sphere of Safety, and I've won a couple times with the unlock wincon. My favorite way is to have Leyline of Anticipation out, and cast it on the endstep before it passes to my turn, and if it doesn't get countered that's an instant win.
Honestly the doll maker room is a great backup win con if your promising stair gets exiled. Make lots of token creatures, open the other side and everything is suddenly a 9/9 and you swing for victory lol.
I won 3 out of 4 games with promising stairs. I used mirror room to duplicate marina. Her enter ability activates. Fracture realms lets me use that ability again. You also can place rooms on the field with both doors locked and open them later. So you can see after 3 turns of me repeating that I won. There is a door that lets you search for one room enchantment in your library.
@jesuamendez2302 right but specifically with both doors locked. I just say "I'll place these rooms on the Battlefield locked from my hand."? These new mechanics are weird
@@jesuamendez2302 you can not cast room cards from your hand with both doors locked. Only if a room enters the battlefield without being cast, are both doors locked
I really like Marina Vendrells Grimoire in this, both for flavor and for filling up your hand with enchantments from her ETB. It has good synergy with Demon of Fates design too, since you no longer need to worry about life total. Unholy Annex also makes me want to run Demonic Counsel and Valgavoth in the deck, if I can get him. I know its not strictly needed, but its a flavor win for me.
I personally added Tyvar jubliant brawler to this deck since it does the same as thousand year elixir just cheaper only downside is that it easily gets removed with burn or attacking
I’m building nothing to unique with her ETB flicker and untap fun and all rooms but I am putting in all the room lands from clue as a cheap land base with depending on my digging at home all the man lands to flavour the living room feel
throw in bello to make the rooms 4/4 indestructible haste elementals as well. Add some more untap effects to get multiple Marina triggers and boom this deck is gross AF
Im very surprised Secret Arcade wasn’t an include since it can go infinite with Ondu, and if you can pull that off, you can cast a Sphere of Safety, make 900 Bijillion Spheres of Safety’s and basically be untouchable combat wise.

Running a 5 color deck you may as well go all in, I run vedalkin orrery and seedborn muse, may as well get to play on everyone else’s turns too right? This is how I got a win of promising stairs, they can’t plan it out if you cast it during your untap step then upkeep I win the game
@@PubStompMTG yeah doesn’t really help with marina, but it gives all nonland cards flash, which alows you to use the etb of the rooms as an suedo instant spell
Ah right, forgot about another layer you can add if you get it out, master of keys, now you can keep casting your enchantments so they need to remove them twice
Clarification: A Room's mana value is based on the doors it has unlocked that's on the battlefield. New mechanics can be interesting sometimes lol
Its complicated actually. The mana value when banishing from the top of the deck for say, Elminster, is still combined both sides.
Step one, buy the aminatou precon, step to toos Mariana in the commander slot. Replace a few cards. Bam. A beautiful starter

im going to be testing this out as a food chain commander. with the recent bans food chain seems to go back up to number 3 combo to play in cedh

The mana value of a room card is equal to the total mana value of the unlocked room(s). So if only mirror room is unlocked, Zur makes it a 3/3.

Thats valid, the only peoblem i have with the untappers at each upkeep like Seedborn muse is the fact she taps at sorcery speed
