Howie's voice is NOT weak. I never understood how people can show their like for their favorite celebrities ( singers, actors , dancers, models , etc.) by putting other celebrities down. Howie's voice is the highest pitched. It is strong, but doesn't have a long reach and is not as versatile as Brian. This said, his voice still is a very good voice and right now it has stood the test of time when it comes to strongest and youngest sounding of the group's voices in their 40s and 50s. In fact, he has to help BRIAN with his vocals and if Howie wasn't there, Backstreet Boys would not sound as good as they currently do. Poor Brian. I think he over extended himself with trying to sing for Backstreet Boys' 20th, 25th and 30th anniversaries. I think he should have worked on trying to get his vocal cords to work in sync and reduced the stress in his life and then did their 20th anniversary a year or two later like the rest of the groups suggested in 2012. I know most fans would have been ok with a late anniversary celebration. The only ones that truly would have been complaining about it being a 21st or 22nd anniversary instead of a 20th anniversary would have been the media which really hasn't supported Backstreet Boys fully in 30 years anyway. Who cares about doing things perfectly on schedule all the time or what the flippant media thinks?
I suppose Howie's voice sounds the strongest to me because there was less wear and tear on his it from singing background. I don't think the backing members sang as much as the lead singers of the group. It has actually worked out for the group since Nick's voice has slowly become worn at the edges from having take over for Brian in the newer material. AJ'S voice has some damage from smoking so having Howie there to help has been a good thing. I think Howie's voice sounds the youngest probably because high pitched voices remind me of children voices. I know Nick is the youngest of the group age wise, maturity wise and still voice wise, but Nick's voice still has matured over time while Howie's voice sounds the way it did in 1999

It sucks bc he has dystonia (neurological vocal issues) and dysphonia (muscle tension/ improper vocal cord mechanics ). So so sad for Brian but he’s getting better

It's weird to hear it now. But I think Brian was singing from his throat and not diaphragm all these years and that could be why his voice cracks now. You can see it Brian really seems to put a lot of effort into his notes which should not happen if you sing from your belly (Diaphragm) whereas people like AJ really seem to be able to effortlessly hit those notes. I don't know just and idea.
I agree with you, it has always seemed that it was painful for him to sing, when we look at Brian's face when he sings those high notes, his face never seemed relaxed. My theory is that he used an improper technique throughout the years. Even now we all know he has a vocal chords conditions, he started to sound more strained and tired starting maybe 2007-2008... So sad
@@DammDamian thats the thing! He had the had that clear velvet like Tone from 1995 to like 2000 and in 2001 started to Sound Different and used his normal speaking voice Tone more. Thats why he always sounded so damn good cause he whisper sang and added that delicate tone at the end of notes. He used it to often, cause as you said,whisper singing is Bad for vocal chords.
@mhoney83 The only reason his voice cracks a little is because of the swine flu that he had to deal with and he's been trying to recover from that for a while now. Even tho his voice isn't as perfect as it use to be....Brian is incredibly talented and nothings going to change that
If Nick is not there, they might have as well just given that bit to Kevin or switch things around so we can hear the big guy sing.. But, oh, well. AJ awesome, as usual. Even when looking like an idiot(I know, he can't always look so awesome), I just love that man.
Wasn't this the appearance where Nick was sick with the flu or a pretty bad virus? I remember this from way back when ... the teeny bopper in me was upset he wasn't there, hahaha
@SluGGz24 Eh, I don't think it's necessarily about AJ being a showboat but I imagine singing the song over and over again the same way gets old. I like when they steer from the original which is what's great about live performances. You get something different from the studio recording and the boys get to have a little fun and actually show us what they are capable of. I think because it's a different version (musically) it calls for different things vocally. I like it!
