    Another great tut.. especially using gobos. Tut request: "redshift using marschner hair" ? Awesome as always.. you should put up a patreon account so we can support these tut's!

      @SmallRobotStudio  7 лет назад

      Thanks Jason I really appreciate it! May do a patreon in the near future so keep a look out for that! Redshift have their own hair shader called RedshiftHair (creative name, I know!) - I totally forgot about it till now so I will definitely look at doing a tutorial on that soon, thanks for the suggestion :)

    How did you integrate the gobos with the leaf texture, is there a slot to put the texture into?

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  8 лет назад +2

      If you wanted to do this within the light itself you'd have to use a Spot (mainly so you can adjust the softness of the shadow). Here I actually use a polygon plane in front of the light with the texture assigned to the material's opacity (the texture is black and white) - it's a bit of an odd way to do it but I find you get a little more control of your shadows without having to adjust the distance or intensity of the light. I'll probably do a little tutorial on this maybe this week as I don't think many people do it this way but can be a neat little trick.

    Hi,
    Was wondering how would you approach it when the shadow has a color? Let's say a bit of red color coming from the light.
    Because Shadow Catcher only capture the silhouette/ shape of the shadow.
    Thank you.

    This does not work using only redshift lights without an HDRI but I have found a solution that works. Go to your node set up for the material of the floor and find the RS Matte-Shadow catcher and check catch shadow. You can also check reflections as well.

    how cute he looks :P nice. see this looks much better than the renderman holdout tutorial where you just put a yellow robot on the street. and here you also show this with the leaves. you didn't at renderman. :)

    Hey thaxx for the tutorial... But i have some issue..... I actuly forgot to add one AOV DEFFUSE FILTER but my 1000 frames are rendered now ... I want to render this AOV seperetly .... But i dont want to vest may time rendering beauty again and again... What should i do .... Please help it means a lot to me .. and ples ignore my english

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  3 года назад

      Hey, I'm afraid render passes are always mathematically tied to your beauty so to get any one pass you'll always need the beauty. Sorry, but you're going to need to render it all out again!

    I'm trying out the trial of redshift, and it seems to make maya somewhat unstable. Is this my hardware, or am I doing something wrong?

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  8 лет назад +1

      Hard to say - when you say unstable is Maya crashing straight out? Is it just during a render? What are your system specs?

    • @mitigatekeeps1371
      @mitigatekeeps1371 8 лет назад +1

      Sometimes it does just straight up crash, and returns the "fatal error" message.
      My computer's not the best, but it should be good enough to run Redshift.
      - 16GB RAM
      - i7 quad core CPU
      - GEForce, GTX 850M
      - 2GB of VRAM
      And this'll happen with really simple stuff, like a cylinder and a plane with a texture applied to it lit by IBL with no GI.
      This even seems to be when I'm not rendering.

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  8 лет назад +1

      I wonder if it's because of the mobile graphics chip, they can be a bit testy sometimes. Any chance you're running Maya in admin mode instead of normal? I've noticed it run poorly when I've set it to Admin mode (troubleshooting a bug which was to do with Renderman though). Otherwise it's a bit too general of an error to be sure - only thing I could recommend otherwise would be to make sure that your graphics drivers are up to date.

    • @mitigatekeeps1371
      @mitigatekeeps1371 8 лет назад +1

      Ok. Will keep investigating.
      One time where it definitely crashes 100% every time is when I switch maya scenes without stopping IPR. Fair dinkum there, but it would be simple for autodesk to have coded in some protection there.
      Sometimes it'll just spontaneously die though, which is annoying

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  8 лет назад +2

      Yeah the only consistent crash I can reproduce is it crashing during an IPR as I've deleted a material that was being rendered. Maya is... Maya lol. Nice to see a local about the channel, cheers for watching mate.

  • @Christofurutman

    im getting an issue with redshift when i try to use it with ncloth. Anything with a passive collider or any kind of ncloth properties shows up as a red surface shader material in IPR. any ideas? this is a really weird redshift issue and i cant seem to find an answer anywhere.

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  7 лет назад

      No idea I'm afraid, that's probably the sort of question one of the admins on the forums would be able to answer though.

    • @Christofurutman
      @Christofurutman 7 лет назад

      hey! I think i figured it out. The material didn't turn red, it just made a duplicate of the material that I would assume is the "collider box," which covered up the original object it was supposed to represent. I was able to hide the collider objects by hiding just nrigid objects.
      I love your work and these tutorials, would love to get your feedback on the stuff I've just started cranking out with redshift if you have time! Thanks for the help

    Is there a way to render the shadow alone?

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  5 лет назад

      Depends on what you want to do exactly, if you want the object to cast a shadow but not be visible in the render you can go into the attribute editor for the object and see it to 'matte' under render stats (near the bottom from memory). You could also do this manually in the render stats by unchecking primary and secondary visibility but it's better to set it to matte.

    No camera matching in maya this is a big problem. All done by hand? Approximately? - to hemorrhoids )))
    But thanks to the author! According Redshift very few tutorials.

    for anyone needing to match the camera automatically, try out fspy fspy.io/

      Hey, your comment got sent to spam and I just saw it now. I've seen this software since making this video and have been meaning to try it out (but everything I match is animated at the moment) - it looks like a super good tool though and I'd encourage anyone reading this to check it out also.
