I just bought my wife a Ridgeway Kensington Grandfather for our 22nd anniversary. I know nothing about clocks, but I fell madly in love with it once we got it up and running. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've run to watch it strike the hour. It's been great.
I love these 70s grandfather clocks, there's just something about them. I have an Emperor from the late 70s that my grandmother gave me. I really enjoy the moon dial in particular.
I found a 1982 Ridgeway on the curb that someone was throwing out. Looks almost identical to yours. Cleaned up the case and movement and it now keeps perfect time. The only thing I needed was a new key for the lock and the cleaning supplies for the movement, oh... and the knowledge of how to do the maintenance. Best curb find ever!
Thank you. This house was built in 1872 by one of New Jersey's wealthiest families. They built it for their son, General E. Burd Grubb, the youngest Union General of the Civil War. It is amazing.

Few people have. They owned a furnace out by Lancaster and sold munitions to the army in every war starting with the Revolution in 1776. They had 7 generations of wealth. E. Burd Grubb's wife was Violet Sopwith, of Sopwith Aviation fame in England. (The Sopwith Camel won WWI and I don't know if you remember, Snoopy's doghouse was called his Sopwith Camel when he fought the Red Baron.
Hi Kathy. Sorry so slow to respond. Move the minute hand to the 12. Count the number of chimes. If the hour hand says 9:00 but the clock chimes 3 times, you just move the hour hand to the 3. The hour hand is designed to slip on the shaft with a little pressure. Don't worry, you won't hurt it. Once you get the hands and chiming correct you can then spin the minute hand around several times to get to the correct time. if your clock now says 3:00 but it is actually 9:00 you just spin the minute hand around and around until the hour hand is on the 9 and the minute hand is on the 12. Some manufacturers say you can move the minute hand counter clockwise. I NEVER MOVE IT BACKWARDS for any reason. If you miss the time just spin it clockwise until you have the correct time. The chimes will correct themselves within the next 2 hours. Let me know if you have any questions.
This is a great clock that cost alot now. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!

The Urgos movements where popular around the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. They are very good movements and very reliable.
I agree.

Cool!
So beautiful! I love to hear the chimes!

WOW! You are lucky. Items like that go quickly. That is part of the reason we never see them. Good score.
I found one as well on the curb but I couldn’t take it
I love grandfather clocks that strike the hour slowly! Makes it very authentic, like the striking speed of Big Ben!
Beautiful clock, but I can't keep my eyes off the woodwork in your house. Love the chimes!

The Clock Guy - Do you own the house or lease it? I bet it is amazing considering who had it built.
Nice clock - BUT the floor is GORGEOUS!

I have a Ridgeway Grandfather clock and it stops on 15 minutes. I have to move the pendulum to restart again. What cab bw the problem.
The slow hour chimes are better than some hurried chimes. They’re lovely and deep too, like a church’s bells.
I agree.
I just got one from a family member. I am having difficulty finding a key for the door. Any ideas?
I may have one. Can you send me a picture of the front of the clock and maybe the model number?
I just bought a 1979 version. Nice floor by the way.
Do you sell any of your clocks? I’m looking for a wall clock
If you don't mind my asking, how much is a nice used floor clock like this? And yours is beautiful!
Hi, I have a Ridgeway Grandfather Clock that doesn't chime the correct time....How do I fix that?
It will be 9am and chime for 3 oclock.
