Excellent analysis. Much respect to you! Being a huge fan of ballet, Bach, Bosch, Waterhouse, Millais, etc., I immediately heard a Bach, saw Swan Lake and all the paintings, and imagery, including Fragonard. I do think beyond seasons - which is the cycle or great wheel of life - there is an underlying sexual theme and most of the other paintings aren’t to be ignored. That particular Fragonard painting has long been iconic of sexual objectification and lost virginity, as is the Ophelia painting. Orpheus was killed by refusing sexual advances. The Waterhouse painting is Gather Ye Roses, a metaphor of how young women (like roses) must be gathered quickly before their beauty withers. Finally, Bosch is nothing but desire and sex. The strawberry being sweet and lush - like the fig - has long symbolized sexual temptation. It’s impossible not to love Red Velvet. The group is a talent powerhouse and their team creates songs, concepts, costumes, choreography, MVs, cd packaging and photo books that are artistic treasures.
Your analysis really helps the scene where Seulgi and Yeri are picking berries together make more sense. Joy, as the first light/flower of spring saying “I feel so free” makes the queen of winter and the queen of spring snap to attention because they both realize what that means.
You are actually the reason i appreciate the mvs more now . at first i loved the beaty and the aesthetics and then i discovered the theories and universes in kpop now i watch every video of your channel TvT
I have always enjoyed your analysis. This is so thorough. Thank you for all the references to the actual art pieces which I could never have found out easily by myself and such detailed breakdown of their correlations!
omg, as an artist, im in love with the visuals of the mv ; i fell even more in love after you explained it deeper ; cause I watched another analysis of the mv and their just one scene that reference an artwork that doesnt make any sense, but yours do. Thank you
Hmm idk it's an interesting interpretation but something that I've seen no one do in their interpretations is connecting them to the meaning of the paintings except for the "earthly delights". Like everyone mentions them but then just casts them aside like sm just put them in for aesthetic reasons. In an interview they said that each member plays a different role and I think the paintings and their meaning tie a lot into what role they're playing in this whole story. Also this mv is connected to the other reve festival MVs and should be a continuation of psycho in which there was a lot of betrayal and shit going down but the explanation doesn't really connect much to that storyline as its continuation
Awesome job!!! I had figured a few things out from the Bosch's painting and some of the seasonal metaphors but could not bring it all together like you did. Your knowledge of Swan Lake certainly added extra detail as well. We shall see if your predictions are right soon enough.
So grateful to you for your work! I saw this music video and immediately thought, “We need Bookish’s insight 😭!” Awesome breakdown as usual, and I hope you have been feeling better ❤️. Can we talk about how Feel My Rhythm used a triptych painting as the theme for ReVe Festival 2022…when the original ReVe Festival was literally a *musical triptych* composed of Day 1, Day 2, and Finale 🤯?? So freaking clever 💗💛💙💚💜. I found some of the MV’s scene transitions interesting as well, and they implied some associations between RV’s characters. For example, Spring Queen Yeri sees floating droplets of water at the same time that Spring-Seeker Wendy interacts with the large strawberry, almost as if they’re sensing each other’s presence? Similarly, Spring-Bearer(?) Irene presenting the berries to the giant is immediately followed by Winter Queen Seulgi consuming them. At first it made me think that Seulgi *was* that gigantic entity (which woulda been creepy as hell lmao) considering how, right after the giant takes Irene’s berries, she’s enveloped by that green-tinted special effect. Seulgi’s the only one with green in their main color theme, so that definitely implies a connection too!
Thank you for this beautifully presented and clear explanation! Feel My Rhythm is such a pretty song and MV and it's nice to see all the art they used to make it so extra special.
I was waiting for this analysis but holy smokes this was SO MUCH MORE than I thought I'd get! I figured you'd just mention the obvious painting references and the Swan Lake theme. I love Red Velvet but this gives me a whole new level of appreciation for them! Thank you for your wonderful and thorough analysis of this masterpiece.
I found ur channel days ago and i love the explaining so much i love ur voice too :D since i discovered kpop just last year im so happy there's channels like your's . thank you 💕
Yesterday, I was wondering if you were going to do a video on Red Velvet's mv and you did :) The whole mv is about paintings and one large one. I wrote down one thing I thought of. Red Velvet was in the painting already and now they are alive in the painting. They came to life from the paintings. It's a lot like the Van Gogh film where his paintings move. I love the visual effect at the beginning with them moving in the paintings. I've also studied some of these paintings.
This is so mind-blowing 🤯 but at the end I think Joy is the Spring because she's on the flower which represents spring-blooming of the flower. And Yeri wearing fruits crown, which represents summer- the season where the fruits ripening
I love your analysis. If dreams come true has a connection to the aespa lore could you explain it to us? Also, can you dive deeper into how the aespa lore connects with red velvet sub unit and other SM artists. It seems like seulrene they had a connection to the mamba
In Bosch's paintings, the strawberry symbolizes worldly desire and the bird symbolizes worldly pleasure. From the Garden of Eden to the present, the owl has been a bystander watching the sins and destruction of mankind, but when the end of the world comes, it transforms into a role of judge. Bosch's paintings depict the world's greed and pleasure-seeking as leading to ruin and hell, but the MV rejects this interpretation, expressing that hedonic pursuits lead from cold winter and night to day and spring. According to the official interview, Irene and Wendy in the MV took on the roles of night and winter, and Joy and Yeri took on the roles of day and spring. And Seulgi plays the role of a bystander, going back and forth between the two as an absolute. (You don't have to give meaning to every picture in the MV. Most of them are homage to express respect for classics and masterpieces.) This is the official content so far, followed by personal interpretation. Joey frees the trapped light, and Yeri is related to the spring rain. It flies into the winter, blooms where Wendy is, and melts the ice. As the ice melts, Wendy discovers a huge desire hidden beneath the ice. The place where Irene is is shaded from sunlight by a giant monster. To her monster, Irene reveals her own desires. Then the monster runs away, and Irene regains her light. When a seemingly frightening monster falls, she learns that it is actually an empty, imaginary image.
Nice presentation. I'm trying to figure out how the strawberry imagery fits in with their history of mv fruit and flowers like Happiness and especially Red Flavor. I feel maybe there's something there beyond fruit as spring/summer? I'm also wondering about how the sampling of Bach music and sampling of Western canonical art is connected.
in my interpretation the video represent the beginning of the smcu universe and in the painting the owl represents the evil, seulgi represents the owl in the mv so I think this confirms that seulgi is the black mamba
I interpreted the ending it kinda gave off this is just the beginning and it seemed like seulgi might be trying to get revenge idk I do believe in the queens of the seasons though and the rest of it
it was good halfway but it's wrong when you made the narrative to Swan Lake. This is entirely about the 'The Garden of Earthly Delights'. Nothing else. The intention of the production artist/team is clear. The rest of the paintings are just supplements/additional aesthetics as a homage or introduction of old paintings. The ballet album jacket is just a jacket photoshoot that's just implemented to be consistent with the theme: 'classical'. What's important to know is the story highlights Seulgi as either the next leader/manipulator of the group or a pawn for Irene so that all the group remains in the dream a.k.a. creating the paradox.
What I'm getting is that this may represent the downfall of western culture. Korean and Japanese people want to learn about western culture from the past (before technology came across), but not the present. Take a look at their outfits. btw Science is that Apple in the bible.

"And Irene the king of all" yeah, that's about right.
Damn. Red Velvet's concepts are just built different. 👏🙌🙇🏼♀

The art references are so cool
I am so freaking impressed by the amount of references and research you (explaining the video) and the director (making the video) did!

Omg underrated

Gracias por tus análisis

🍪💖🌸 hello!! :D
Please explain iu's celebrity song 🥺🥺💜💜
in my interpretation the video represent the beginning of the smcu universe and in the painting the owl represents the evil, seulgi represents the owl in the mv so I think this confirms that seulgi is the black mamba
Also, Seulgi said that she is the black mamba in Seulgi-zip

What is the connection of this to the rest of the reve festival though? I’m not sure if you mentioned it and I missed ir
