Before I start watching, I just have to say that I'm so glad people are making videos like this. Without Shuichi, V3's entire premise wouldn't work. He also has, imo, the best character development out of anyone in the series. His interactions with the other characters, as well as his growth, are just incredible to watch. Plus, there is so much meaning behind his character which I adore. The speech right before he says, "I refuse to vote," is so well voice acted and my favorite line of dialogue in the entire franchise. I love his character and feel like people are just ignoring the fact that he is a great character because they wanted Kaede to be the protagonist, and while it's sad that she died, it was worth it for the overall message of the game, as well as switching to Shuichi to make the message hit harder.
Lemme say that I didn't think he'd become the main protag, but Kodaka made a big risk by killing off Kaeda and made him take her place, and holy shit did it pay off. I believe he's the smartest protag by a mile, needed the least amount of help, had me believe in him the fastest and that ending with his revelation to the series' black-and-white theme was absolutely mind-blowing. With amazing drip to boot
Literally my thoughts EXACTLY. I love seeing him say his serious lines because his character is so different to other protags, and he is the smartest. Dude does have amazing drip
Not only that, but seriously how big of a risk was the message of that ending? Literally just stating that “hope vs despair” is bs when that’s what the series theme has been all along. It’s why Kokichi is my favorite antagonist. Truth vs lies is (imo) a much more interesting concept
no because, shuichi saihara supremacy. kaede had potential but... i can't help but to say that shuichi is so much better. i love shuichi so much and just... his personality getting developed each chapter is soooo good... i feel like he got the most amount of character developments among all of the protagonists
I really like Shucihi, I know having kaede as a protag since she's female would be cool but i just feel like her character didnt enough to really develop as a protagonist she felt like a mix of makoto and imposter in some ways but still lacking room for improvement/ character development
I agree with this video SO much! I definitely agree that he is underappreciated, and I'm so glad there are other people that feel the same way. (A bit of a rant btw) Something that has always bugged me about how some of the fandom treats Shuichi is how it feels like, because of how underappreciated he is, the bar of expectations for Shuichi is so freaking low. It kind of feels to me like now people have just watered him down to "depressed emo boy". I know some people like to just poke fun at him for being emo, but what annoys me is when some people act like that's his ENTIRE character, when, at least to me, it's clearly not. It honestly just feels like people have forgotten literally everything he's done in v3, like carrying everyone in the trials, putting a stop to the killing game and Danganronpa as a whole, etc. I just feel like some people really don't give Shuichi enough credit for everything he's done, and it genuinely frustrates me to no end. I don't know if it's because I'm biased towards Shuichi because he's the best protagonist, and best boy in my opinion. But I had to rant about this a little bit because it's something that does kinda bug me about the fandom. So seeing this video made me really happy! Also, I feel like it's kind of dumb to get mad at Shuichi for getting Kaede killed, but have people forgotten that Tsumugi FRAMED Kaede? If they didn't vote Kaede out, they would have died. Shuichi had no other choice. Kaede seemed like the only option at the time. Plus, I feel like the game wouldn't feel the same if he died instead of Kaede. I would've been happy if they both survived, but the protagonist switched is part of what separated v3 from the others.
Shuichi and Kaede are my favorite protagonists in DR bar none. People complain that my guy is pathetic, but he has the most obvious growth of any character in the series imo
What makes Shuichi so special is that he grows, and becomes largely self-sufficient in the process. Unlike Makoto and Hajime, his “helpers” don’t really help him in the trials themselves, they help to improve his confidence. Something I really like about Shuichi is that he’s smart, but not in the in-your-face, know-it-all kind of way that intelligent characters tend to be portrayed. Shuichi starts off shy and unsure, hiding behind his hat. Kaede gives him the boldness to start looking his situation in the eye, but it takes him time. He learns and develops and becomes a bit jaded along the way. I think with Shuichi we really get to see the toll of seeing your friends die over and over. Don’t get me wrong, Makoto and Hajime are both also excellent protagonists, and they certainly feel the weight of their situations. Where Makoto and Hajime come out of the death game with hope, Shuichi seeks truth. Hope never got Shuichi anywhere. He watched his friends die again and again, and each time was completely powerless to save them. The only way Shuichi was able to assist his friends was through his detective work, his truth.
Nice video! I love watching stuff about certain characters and their personalities and developments. So much fun. Was literally trying to focus and be reasonable and not simp like hell for Shuichi lol. This was fun to watch and I love listening to stuff like this for background noise. Shuichi is definitely underappreciated, he deserves more love, or at least some form of appreciation imo.
Kaede would've worked if the theme of the game was different (she would've still worked but not as much as Shuichi did) But Shuichi is exactly working well with theme of the game.
Damn bro, so much effort and looks so neat. I love how you edit bro. I'm trying to listen and finish, this is my opinion I feel the music is too loud. Your voice is a tad low so consider gain for your voice or have the music a little lower. I tried turning you up to realize that the music and you stayed the same Rip. Thanks for the effort for one of my fav boys Shuichi.
Lmao i had to record while my family was home so i naturally talked a little quiet. But thanks, thought the music was fine but ill check through when i get home, must be the video editor or smth
The message of drv3 wouldnt work with kaede since she embody the truth i feel like if kaede was the protagonist the ending would've been "truth good lies bad " exactly like dr1 and i guess thats why the switch up happened A thing i really like abt her is that the game acknowledge her toxic positivity unlike makoto
