I just purchased this from bulkreefsupply, I love this light!!!! Best 1000$ I have ever spent, yes it’s very expensive but it’s worth it in my opinion, I have one on my 90 gallon mixed reef and my corals love it
I have a pair of these over my 48" x 24" shallow mixed reef. Tank is only about a year old and things are really starting to come together at this point. I think the lights are great and really like kessil lighting.
Thomas, I have the waterbox frag 105.4, it’s 48x24x16. I want to do an SPS dominated tank. I have one AP9X, should I get two or is one enough? Should I pair it with a T5 hybrid? I’m confused. I also can’t mount a T5 to the wall or ceiling, any advice?
I know they say 48’ ,but would one run on 59” wide x 20”high x 18’ depth , for softies and fish coral placement will not be at 10” inches either end ,as want more water area , thanks
That'll work fine if you mount the fixture high, but the ends of the tank may look a bit visually dim and you may get more light spill into the surrounding room than usual from front to back.
Don’t do 100% intensity unless you have a par meter and can make sure u aren’t cooking corals. Their first video on the AP9X they have it broken down for different tank types. I run the same light on a mixed reef at 55% intensity. Just watch the other video they made first.
@@fishlikethis82 this is correct and seems to be an error in this video. The other video gives more info. I run mine at 55 too, which is the BRS recommendation in the first video.
Either will work, but most of us around the BRS office would probably opt for an A360X/T5 hybrid. Nothing against the AP9X, it's a great light. Just better suited for rectangular areas based on our par testing.
You bet! This light's strong suit is rectangular shapes, so a single light over a 48" x 24" area will work well. Just be sure to mount it high enough to cover the whole tank. This should give you enough PAR for a mixed reef with any SPS more towards the center and top of the aquascape.
@BRStvInvestigates I have a 6 foot Peninsula tank, do you recommend using 3 AP9X’s for my tank dimension at 72.3"×25.3"×23.6" for a SPS only? Thank you in advance. 🙏🏻
As long as you put some thought into the placement of the SPS corals (center 2' of the tank, or so), you could get away with just the one AP9X fixture. Alternatively, you could also consider two A360X's so that you could space them out more evenly.
I have the AP700 on a 48inch and I only run it at 60% 3 hours a day and grow montis, stylos, birdsnest easy and my LPS such as torchs, hammers and my chalice all have been growing fast too. Im sure the AP9X does even better. (Edit: I have it mounted at the BRS recomed 15 inch off the water.)
@@muhammadamirbinmohdazman6363 i would assume he runs it longer throughout the day, but 3 hours peak at 60% for enough par for those corals in a mixed reef setup. Balance between too little light for high light corals and burning low light.
So why would one buy an ap9x if they already have 2 a360x? I dont buy the reflector thing because I already have 55 degree reflectors...so...just a legit question.
@@trevor19qhshe Personal choice and I was unaware that this fixture is 2 360s put together. I agree, that isn't worth 900. I run the new A500X on my cube and that's about the cost of it with the wifi module. It is twice the PAR this is and will be good for the future. I never liked the AI primes that much. I had an AI 64 and was a beta tester for their wifi box back in 2013. My Corals didn't fair well under the AI lights. I am sure since the Ecotech buyout, they have become better.
for the price of this light it should come with the mounting arms also. this is why ill never buy a brand name like kessil or AI. you pay more for that elite name status than you should have to
I like all the fun that's happening on some of these new vids. Keep it up

Have been running the new Kessil A500X for a couple of weeks. Ran Kessils since their release in 2012 and these new ones are fantastic.
No one does a better spotlight!. Would love to see you doing more on BRS
Very much appreciate that! :D

Love you quick and informative product overviews!! Keep up the great work 👌🏻👍🏻
This light looks amazing and I wish I could afford a light this expensive lol

Nice lights, I have two. Thanks Thomas for the spectrum nod. I will adjust mine. 20/100/100/20/0

How many would I need for an IM 150 Lagoon tank? I have mixed reef of mostly LPS, Zoas, Anemones, and Soft corals. DIMS: 47.3” x 35.4” x 19.7”
Wich is the more nice in colour the kessil or the red sea?
Both look nice as the LEDs are under one lens. That said, we have more Kessils running over tanks around the BRS office than Red Sea lights 🙂
@@BRStv a wich give you the best results in coral growth?
Would this light suite this DIMS: Length 23.62” Width: 19.68” Height: 18.89” ? Thank you
I’m getting a standard 75gallon tank. I’ll be hoping to keep a mixed reef. Would 1 suffice or would you recommend something else?
One is absolutely enough
My a360 tuna overheats. Cleaned it still overheats. Not very happy with kessil after this

For an SPS dominant system of that size using the AP9X, three fixtures would work best.
Will this light mount under a aquatic life T-5 hybrid
Yep! It'll fit just fine 🙂
Is 1 of these enough over a red sea 425 for a mixed reef? Or would I need 2?
