That guy made rap and hip hop go back and listen to some of his early recordings I swear he came up with the rythm and vocalizing that made it and rap samples him all the time I said it before and I'll say it again JAMES BROWN IS THE MAN
James Brown been all over the world Many times ! 1956 to 2000 Plus, Saw him in my home town when I was 12 Topeka Kansas, Then in Kansas City at 16, then in Chicago at 23, then in Reno at 43 !
Split at 19:04! This may be the last time or one of the last times he ever did a split. He didn't get up to quickly from this one and had to turn it into a quick second split. The band messed up royally at the beginning of "Cold Sweat". They missed the cue entirely and maybe he did that to try to make up for that. The only other time in 1987 I've seen any footage of him doing the split was at that Vietnam tribute where Peter Fonda was the host. He did two separate splits during "Living in America". They weren't very smooth either.
Ikale Sunflower yes he was 55, but the drugs and being a bit over weight took their toll. You could see here that he was under the influence, his concerts after he got out of jail in 1991 were much better even up to his death on 2006.
TO PAULD ..YOU MISSED THE POINT...James Brown splits and band missing their Q...They performed i enjoyed the show review. How many splits can you do? How much stamina ..as The Godfather say ..dont take it personal....its just entertainmen...lol...Do your Split..finger dailing 911
@@lorethaanthony7550 I saw James Brown about 100 times live from 1971 to 2005. I have all his LPs and singles. I met him 4 times and used to do the dances and splits when I was younger. He has been my all time favorite performer since 1968 when I was 12. So I think I know a little bit about what I’m talking about. And how many splits I can do is irrelevant. He was the entertainer not me. I saw James Brown do hundreds of splits live.
Hey, Paul.. "take me out to the ball game/ no business like show business.." was part of the routine during the middle 80s..including that "twilight zone" tease in there..I have another performance of Gravity. I'll try and post it.. It's from 1988.
I remember "There's No Business Like Show Business" from many of his '80s shows (and I cringed every time he played it lol) but not "Take Me Out To The Ball Game". The JB's, at trhat time, in the beginning of the shows used to do the 2001 Space Odyssey Theme also. Add thgose to the "Entertainment Tonight" theme he used to play also, and I was like, "what the hell is he doing?"
I find those mid to late '80s JB VHS /DVDs were rather disappointing . Same songs , same disco arrangements. I love the stuff released from 1968, 1974, 1979, and 1983. Exciting and real .
And what the hell is "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" lol? I never heard of this before lol, and I saw him about 100 times in concert from 1971 to 2006, and I have 99.9% of anything he ever recorded.
Mika Ryhtä I believe his music was most impactful between 1964-1974, but even after that he performed like a dynamo until he had his unfortunate bout with addiction in the late 80’s. Things just got flat out bizarre around 1987.
Thanks for the answer. I saw him here in Finland 1988. consert was about an hour late, because they couldn´t find the right kind of hairspray for Mr. Brown. ;), the show still was great. :)
@Ikale Sunflower I hear a whole lotta arrogance and ignorance in your astigmatism of Mr.Brown. The man was literally,on the stage 300+ nights of the year 4 almost 3+DECADES!And that doesn't include the 1000's of hours in rehearsal and the recording studio. Not 4 nothin did he call himself "The hardest working man in show business!"Kick a man when he is down.Your comment reveals the pettiness of your soul.No value in that.Show some respect ,young ...🤔
Francis Robbins No, that’s the way he was introduced at the time. I saw him about 30 times between 1979 1983 mostly at the rock club’s in New York City.

Well he was in his mid 50s

I joined the crowd of this show about 30th years ago!!! I spent a very very special time with JB and DIO!!!!!
did you go backstage? i did. i was there too . fun day and night.
JB and James DIO at the same day/place/or at the same festival???? I REALLY LOVE 'EM!!!
You were one of the luckiest person of the world@!!!
Did James perform any other songs that night not on this tape? I'm curious
Wow! "Gravity" live in concert! The only other time I saw him perform this was on the Joan Rivers Show from 1986.

PaulDA2000 I guess they didn't play Take Me Out to the Ball Game that much but I know of another 1987 show on audio where they do that song as well.
PaulDA2000 Right..lol

Inoubliable.
Please upload the complete footage of James Brown Live in Rome in 1988!!
Danny with the background vocals....
4:3 is the correct funk ratio.
One reason to me that it wasn't vintage James was that because Bobby Byrd was not there saying his, "Get on up, Get on up" and "Like a what?"
And what the hell is "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" lol? I never heard of this before lol, and I saw him about 100 times in concert from 1971 to 2006, and I have 99.9% of anything he ever recorded.
I think it's the tune "Something Else" from Out of Sight.
Z Pretty dam good Jazz!
Sumpin Else from the New Breed Album. Around 1966 .
TheBradge Probably 1987. I’ve heard stories he did one or two after that but nothing I’ve ever scene on tape.
Gamers Ideal oh I know that, I was just curious why he said “Take me out to the ballgame”.
I wonder how many times JB went to Japan?
+javonte burris 14 times since 1974. I saw 1993 & 1997 (with KC&The Sunshine Band) jb-escape.sakura.ne.jp/jbbio/jbbio.html
23 times
Sa c'est de la musique 🙏🙏🙏

Yes that right
I see he played keyboards,too. - & Super ! Bad.
These weren't good days for Mr. Brown.
What do you think were the best years of JB?

He was drug addicted at this stage

Vraiment Brown il va reste par toujour c est un roi de music
HEYYYYYY Hit me! Owww!
I couldn't tell whos concert this was until a minute in.
Why couldn't you tell lol? The announcer said "James Brown" over and over and then James Brown came out.
@@PaulDA2000 I think.be was being sarcastic haha.
James loved the sound of his own name 😂

I think he was good up until 1978 actually lol
@@bosedekumuyi4510 It's not even about his age. Musically, it wasn't the same either. HIs "Living In America" days im not a fan of.
You understand that he was much older.
Don't agree with you at ALL!
William Parker my comment is not wrong or right. It’s MY opinion. :) i prefer JB when he was younger not his “Living in America” days.
