If I may add... 9:49 This is the Prefecture of the Departement, as Angers is the head city (kind of local capital) of the Dpt of Maine-et-Loire. The buildings belonged to the Monastery of St-Aubin until the Revolution. The tower at 10:29 was the monastery's spire. 13:57 The wall along the car park to the right is the leftover of what was the medieval city walls. The construction of the castle started in the 13th century, under order of the French kings after they conquerred Anjou from the English Plantagenet dynasty. They established the Duchy of Anjou, as king Louis VIII "gave" the province to one of his sons who then was the first Duke of the new dynasty. 21:41 The foundations of the old bridge (now known as Pont de Verdun) are actually older than the castle, dating back to the 11th century. it's obviously been renovated several times in the course of centuries. But the old foundations are still there and strong enough to accommodate modern car traffic. 39:39 That's actually the Episcopal Palace, i.e. the residence of the bishops of Angers, not a church. It's built against the walls of the cathedral. 41:05 I don't know if you siw it but to the left is a small tower stuck between two buildings, with a fountain. The fountain dates back to the Renaissance, but the tower itself, though heavily renovated through time, is supposed to be the last remnant of the old Roman wall of the city 2000 years ago, then hardly more than a village in the name of Juliomagus - meaning in Latin, Julius (Caesar) Fort. Glad you liked my native city...
Wow, Marc, Thanks so much for all that wonderful information. Very much appreciated. We loved our brief stop in Angers and would love to go back and spend more time exploring the area. Thanks again -Henry
Great to see more of France and Angers is an amazing beautiful looking city/town even if it is raining and I like how the streets are where you are walking with the local markets, shops, restaurants and other places in the city/town I liked hearing the bells ringing in the church and everything was really great here and can't wait for your next video of France Thank You. 🇫🇷🤠👋🇺🇲
Thank you for a lovely walk through Angers, including that magnificent castle and tour of the beautiful cathedral! I'm sorry it's been so rainy but knowing you, you and your son are making the best of it. 🙂 Here's hoping it clears up a bit for the rest of your journey! 🙏
We’ve had a few more days of rain but lots of sun too. We’ve actually finished crossing France and now we are just taking trains to places we want to go. We’ve filmed lots more France walks though. Thanks Pam. -H
@@CityWalks Ahhh, maybe you're getting a bit of well-earned relaxation time by taking the train now. Keep enjoying the trip, and I look forward to more videos! 😊
coucou, je viens de voir votre vidéo sur Angers et j'habite Angers, contente que la ville vous ai plu, par contre c'est la 1ère année où nous avons autant de pluie au printemps, habituellement c'est un printemps doux et ensoleillé.
Unfortunately no. We followed the Loire and then headed to Basel. I’ll publish these walks over the next several weeks. We also stopped by Colmar and Strasburg. Now we are heading down to Normandy. Thanks for the suggestion, and I’ll have to save it for another trip. All the best and keep on steppin’ -H
You are really working hard to show us the heart of these towns and doing a great job of it. Shame about the weather but you get used to seeing rain this spring when you live in UK. Hope you are continuing to enjoy your cycling trip and I hope the weather isn't lowering your spirits
Thanks 👍and you are right about the rain. Occasionally it gets me a bit down but then I look around and remember I’m in France on an adventure and it’s ok again. Glad you are enjoying these. Keep on Steppin’ -H
LOVED this walk! am having fun looking up what you see - e.g., an aiguillerie is a needle manufacturer/seller. And I know what you mean about the cigarette smoke - when I was in Paris on a business trip, the Americans kept moving to different conference rooms to escape the smoke and then the French would follow us - carrying their cigarettes!
If I may add...

Spring has been pretty disgusting this year in our part of Europe. And the first half of the summer... so so... not a great year weatherwise.

Such a pretty town, thanks for sharing!
Thank you too! Much appreciated -H
hey, are you planning to visit Bordeaux?
I've watched many rainwalks, Bordeaux is one of the best places. It also rains quite a lot there.
