The man is a master. Look at how nicely and gently he conducts the interview to calm her initial nervousness. His putting his hand under his chin is part of that method of showing her he is relaxed and she can relax too. His voice is low, soothing, and his questions very friendly. By the same token, with others he could be vicious, demeaning and very aggressive. He knew what he was doing the whole time. None, none of the current batch of interviewers have the complete set of skills that this man had.

As for her mother, well, she had her reasons for being like that: Teri was always very protective of her daughter, plus she had a problem with alcohol. However, it's clear that Teri did give Brooke a good upbringing :)

The 80's represented a world full of creativity originality and imagination, something that the 2000's completely fails in.
People were more pure back in the days, now 10 year old girls think about dating and make-up. Kids are exposed to adult stuff too soon and they get more and more trashy... it's not nostalgia, it's the truth. But it's also true that kids nowadays know a lot more stuff than kids in the 80s.
