    Mark from a distance it does resemble a sea horse, but when you gave us that close up as your were moving the camera down it reminded of me of fresh sea water flowing threw lava after it had cooled some, bringing life back to a land that was burnt. The gold being the last bit of hot lava, this is marvelous no matter what anyone sees it as. I guess that is how art is. I want to thankyou for reminding me art is to be fun, relaxing and a tool to help us unwind. You are quite a artist and should be very proud of this creation. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your time and talent with us.

    Oh my god… the struggle is real!!! I have a very finite amount of workspace as well, and I’m very limited in how large a canvas I can work on. 30in is my maximum width. I have no room to tilt either. But, you do such a good job illustrating that, while difficult, working with larger canvases in smaller spaces might be difficult, but not impossible. Beautifully done. 🐻

    Stunningly beautiful, I'm just about to dip my toe into the world of acrylic pouring so am a little nervous on mixing ratios but this is a great inspiration. I bought a bunch of Amsterdam acrylic paints so I take it they are a good brand if you are using them 👍

    • @MarkJRatcliffeArt
      @MarkJRatcliffeArt  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much Paul. Yes Amsterdam are great paints and have a great binder so can be watered down without breaking up. Aim for initially one part paint to 0.75 part water and then you can always add a bit more water if you’re doing a more fluid technique like Dutch Pour. Have fun and I hope you enjoy it. Huge warning though…. It gets very addictive haha

    • @Flashpg
      @Flashpg Год назад

      @@MarkJRatcliffeArt Thank you for that advice, I also bought some Amsterdam acrylic pouring medium, add that to the paint and water too?

    • @MarkJRatcliffeArt
      @MarkJRatcliffeArt  Год назад +1

      @@Flashpg so pouring medium is a liquid you add to your paint to allow it to flow and become more fluid. People use a range of medium and also make their own. I did do a video on how you can make your own when starting out to help get a feel for techniques. People have various ratios but if you use pouring medium I’d start with 1 part paint to 3 parts pouring medium (some people go to 4 parts). Water can be added to make it very fluid (but don’t over water as you’ll break the binders in your paint and it will break up and split).

    • @Flashpg

    I’m perplexed Mark. What was happening with the black as you blew? I was very surprised how the black came flying up through the petals … or the black was very quickly swallowing the colours. 🤷🏻‍♀ (The speed with which it happened is what really threw me. I have never seen the like before.)
    I did like the colours you chose though - a nice palette.

    Your paintings are phenomenaly stunning I have a question for you and I hope you can get back to me about it . The question is I have a little trouble getting my consistency of paint right for the dutch pour do you have any tip or tricks I can use to make it better

    • @MarkJRatcliffeArt
      @MarkJRatcliffeArt  Год назад

      Hey Janice. Thank you so much for your kind words of support and encouragement. For Dutch pour consistency I make mine very fluid. I use a good brand of paint to allow me to water down the paint to a ratio of 1 part paint to 1 part water. Good paint will allow this as it will have good binder. When you test your paint you won’t see a mound upon a mound in the cup, it will be very fluid and disappear. Also do a drip test to ensure all your colours are the same fluidity. That might help. Getting the base right is key and ensuring it’s fluid enough to blow with the hair dryer - does that help? 🤞🏻
