Did you replaced the burnt out light or did you sell it?

Just saw one of these being sold, left vu light bulb was out. Is this an issue on this deck?

Bulbs will go out, nothing special here! A more common issue is the cheap surface mount motor capacitors that go out and are difficult to replace. My local repair shop replaced several, and shortly after I did this video the issue began to creep up again. Speed become erratic and an audible whine appears in the audio. This deck was given to me, but I'd never have bought it myself. It's pro gear and looks rugged, but that's about it. Other decks have held better!

@@Dero72 Yeah, attracted by the looks! Too bad it is wonky. You think it is your unit that is goofy, or is it all of them?

@@alphanumeric1529 I don't know if other units of the same model have the issue. However, I'm told that a lot of electronics from the late 80s/early 90s have problematic surface mount capacitors.

is the deck flying in the air? how is that possible?

Haha! You got me wondering, it’s been some time I did this video! The deck is sitting at an angle on a shelf, you can see the wood shelf below the transport controls. This was most probably done to catch the natural light from the window at the left of the room!

Sounds like it wascrecorded from a cd. Of course it is a highly compressed song. Would love to hear an analog recording with some transients.

sounds great. Is the TDK MA-X Tape the best type to use with the Tascam decks?

    • @kona702

+1nav Not necessarily, this deck has the capabilities of on-the-fly bias/E.Q. and level adjustments right on the front of the machine. So at that point, the best formulation of tape is a matter of personal preference. This can be adjusted to any kind of tape for maximum results. Just depends on what kind you like the best. My favorite is the Denon HD8. It is a CrO2/Metal Alloy hybrid. A pure metal formulation, but with the bias and shell set for a Type 2 Chrome. (Basically in short, a Type II Metal.) These HD8's will blow any other chrome out of the water, even the industry favorite UX-Pro's. This tape rivals even the best metals, and even outperforms them drastically in my opinion. But alas....as with most good things they are becoming more and more scarce, and I only have a few left unopened :-( But....TDK HX-S, and 3M BlackWatch are almost the same formula and a good alternative for me.
