Lisa, thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for all your craft projects with us, it really is encouraging and nice to listen to when I am crafting at home. From watching this video I am feeling a little more brave about trying weaving with a rigid heddle loom. Even if you are not posting new video content currently, I hope you are still enjoying your fibre projects and keeping busy with them :)
Thank you so much Lisa for mentioning my channel! I really enjoy watching your video. I'm in love with your blue art yarn 💙I recently received beautiful handspun yarn from a friend and I've been wondering what to do with it 😄I think I'm going to weave an art piece to show case it on the wall. Seeing you weave with your art yarn was inspiring🤩
Happy Mother’s Day to you as well. I love your videos and have watch them all. Some more than once. I am what you call “Lurking in the Background”. I am sure they are many of us just quietly lurking and love watching you. Happy spinning, knitting and weaving. ❤️
How lovely to visit with you this afternoon. Had a nice late lunch with my son and daughter-in-law and now relaxing with your fun weaving and wonderful knitting. I hope you have been well-celebrated today, dear Lisa. Happy Mother’s Day. 💐
Happy Mother’s Day to you too sweet Leslie. We had a lovely day, walking the dog, planting seeds, baking (I made a chocolate cake!) and weaving. I feel so much gratitude for all the gifts I’ve been given. Take care. 🤗
I've had audible and love listening to british murder mysteries. In Michigan our library has electronic audible books and I just checked out Sherlock to listen to while I weave my carpet.
Love it- all of the universe’s energy is directing me to Rigid heddle weaving!! Seems a great stash buster avenue!! I was so happy for your time on this! I think I’m headed down that fiber highway!! ❤❤
I love Ivana from The Republic of Me. She doesn’t talk much in depth about her weaving but does show the lovely finished products. She is also a very accomplished painter! I know a loom is “looming” in my future (lol) but at this point I’ve got more questions than projects I want to use it for so I’ve got some more research to do. I just loved the blue art yarn with the yellow “normal” yarn. Playing around may not end up being a prized possession but I think it’s the best way to open the door to creative paths you never would have thought of. ❤
One of the tricks with a super chunky yarn is to use a longer stick shuttle. If you were using the shuttle for your 25 inch flip, it would take half as many wraps to go through the same length of yarn so you’d have a much skinnier shuttle Girth.
You have such fun with your projects, and it was a hoot to see the look on your face when you had the idea to use your blue art yarn in your yellow weaving project! I love the look of twisted fringe on scarves, and the tool is great, but there is a reason why i have only worn one of my woven scarves for nearly a decade.... the twisting just takes a long time!! Thanks for another enjoyable episode!
LisaR : Happy Mother's day Lisa! I loved this all :) I learned to spin& weave in 1990 & like I did when young I always wanted the deep dive right from the start . That meant my first loom was a 54 " floor loom - first project was hand dyed & spun warp /weft plaid purples the full width of that loom .. Young mind , young body - challenges attracted my interest & then the interest would go onto a new skill . Knitting, spinning sewing the exception. Once our family started to grow , weaving on that loom wasn't practical or even safe . Each of my 3 sons were attracted to it like magnets- The tie ups & brake , foot treadles , even string heddles &back heavy beams all potential dangers .It was dismantled and stored with TLC until recently . I discovered the rigid heddle loom a about 6 years ago and My huge 8 shaft is sitting still waiting to be rebuilt . I LOVE direct warping in 30 minutes on 24 inch rigid heddle ( on stand agree!) The thought of spending what I recall more time warping than weaving on my floor loom isn't appealing. So many options with rigid heddles ,especially if you set up with double heddle it's like adding more shafts to a floor loom (as well as allowing for double weave . )The treadling I miss , but there's spinning ;) Think Im going to let go of it so it gets used . I have a baby wolf floor loom that frame is "x" so folds and takes little space - if the urge hits . Your marigolds are beautiful . You have a whole lot of easy gorgeous , safe deep Golden yellow to pale yellow (or greens if you add iron - not as safe & needs care in disposal ). I used 8 marigold heads in an old crock pot , ( mordant is cream of tartar, & alum, some baking soda at end will brighten color ) I was able to get 200gms from the 8 heads . you can freeze the heads fresh and use through the year :) In case you need another very fun rabbit hole to delve into ! The loom outside is an inspired idea ❤
Happy Mother's Day Lisa ! Thank you for a informative and fun video this week. My favorite rigid heddle teacher is Kelly Casanova on you tube. Have a great week !!
What a wonderful video to watch on Mother’s Day! I stared it in the morning and finished while my little boy was trying to fall asleep. I love your journey and seeing you learn. It really keeps me centered as I try to learn and get things done. 💖
Hi Lisa! I just love watching you! I really enjoy watching you spin and weave in fact I could watch you all day long. Oh let’s not forget your cake. Yummmm. I also like you sharing your books. I wish I lived closer to you so we could be friends. Thanks for another great episode.

Hi Lisa!! Love to see your weavings! I fell down the rabbit hole of weaving and tapestry years ago now. If you ever decide you want to go to a floor loom I would recommend Jane Stafford's on-line classes. She is an excellent teacher!! We seem to be watching the same podcasts because everyone that you named I have watched. Your sweater is beautiful!! Take care
Very happy to have come across your videos again. I used to watch, but for some reason lost touch. Good to see that you're retired & enjoying it. I began weaving Jan, 2023 with a 16" Ashford Sampleit loom and a few months ago, bought their 32" one. I keep my looms on a stand & do use hybrid warping following instrux from Amy d. McNight. It's just like direct weaving but with multiple pegs. If you have any interest in making clothing, I suggest you check out Sarah Howard. She's a lovely British woman who weaves rather narrow pieces of fabric generally using her own handspun yarns. Even tho I may never make a piece of clothing, I love watching (& listening) to her.
That art yarn reminded me of the one I had bought years ago (we are talking 1980´s here) during my first trip ever behind the Iron Curtain (where I grew up) to France. It had sort of lilac, pink and beige bits in it together with the shiny white. I knitted a sort of very loose sleeveless vest to wear over a tight white T-shirt and light blue jeans. I had been much admired among my friends :o)

I’m a fan of Kate @TLLH too! I have a cricket loom I’ve had for several years, it’s still in the box. I’ve pulled it out and am determined to learn how to use it. Glad I found your channel!
Hi there. I am also a "baby weaver". I just spent way too long warping my loom for the second time today. I really appreciate everything you shared. The other channels you mentioned are helpful. Curly-n-Yarny was one I already checking out and have enjoyed her channel. Your explanations of the books you shared that you have were very helpful. I have added them to my list of books I would like to get. I think Weaving Made Easy may be the first one I order. Double weave sounds really cool but I'm a bit intimidated to try it after messing up a few times just warping the full length of my loom. Your art yarn is really cool. I've avoided spinning art yarn because I didn't have a use for it. Now, spinning art yarn may be something I willing to try.
I look forward to each of your videos, Lisa. I've always loved prime numbers, too LOL. And I've avoided wrap-and-turn for years (decades?), using the German short row. I have a small tapestry loom I've never used - maybe time to make some art yarn?
I am sorry to say my husband bought be a tapestry loom years ago and it’s still in the box. I’ll have to get it out. It would make a very humorous video me trying to do that! Looks complicated.
I cannot wait to see where your weaving adventures take you. I have enjoyed watching Kari Fell for weaving in the past, I don't think she has posted much recently but she has some lovely videos for weaving and dyeing inspiration
Thank you for another lovely and fascinating video, Lisa. I have so enjoyed your exploration of your new portable loom. I absolutely love the art yarn woven in with the yellow yarn. It was lovely to witness you having the idea to use it - you seemed so excited! I remember seeing Evie (@jillianeve) saying that some of the textured yarns look great as an accent in a knitted piece like, say, the brim of a hat… I love the Violet Unicorns’ videos - she is a great teacher. The two books you review in the video are great books and you reminded me to get mine out again! Also I have Inventive Weaving on a Little Loom (Discover the Full Potential of the Rigid-Heddle Loom) by Syne Mitchell - it is an inspiring and useful book (you may have seen it). Meanwhile, I am still trying to spin a boucle yarn😂🙄
Hi Lisa, enjoy! Jane Patrick’s book is amazing. I did a long sampler about 10 years ago, using my own at the time new Flip Loom, and her book. Learned a lot, had a wonderful time….SO many things you can explore without shafts. I was in awe! Thanks for sharing your fiber journey! And yes, Saori weaving is one of my favorites as well….and of course, don’t need a Saori loom to do it! Total serendipity! I hope, if I can figure out how to use iMovie, I can join the ranks of your gorgeous videos! Love every one of them! Happy crafting!
I would love to see you make a video. Please do let me know when you do. I am beginning to see the myriad possibilities of the simple rigid heddle. Thank you! 🥰
Glad to stumble on this episode. I just started weaving this year on a 16" Ashford and have caught the weaving bug. 😂 A channel I enjoy is Fiber Love Diaries, she has a 32" Ashford and has lots of project episodes that are fun and inspirational.
Lovely video, thank you for sharing! I've just started to learn to weave and my first project on my rigid heddle was a handspun scarf, the rec of The Violet Unicorn is a very good one :D The warping instruction on that channel was absolutely instrumental in getting me started.
What a beautiful art yarn that is! In case you face that problem again that your shuttle is too thick for your shed, you might want to try to use either an empty shuttle or a pick up stick, put it in first, turn it so that it opens the shed even more and then pass your shuttle. I am looking forward to more of your weaving play! Greetings from Germany!
Thanks Lisa, for teaching me about loom weaving. I have lots of lace weight merino that I may try and use if I decide to get a small loom. The brown piece you made is lovely. And I'm sure the blue and yellow one will be also. I'll be looking forward to seeing your progress on Instagram. 😊 I'm working on my May mittens as I'm watching. Take care
Lisa, Happy Mother’s Day to you. Love your weaving. I have caught that bug. Went to my first fiber festival in 3 years yesterday. Bought some spinning fiber, which I dont need lol
I so look forward to your episodes every Sunday. I have a floor loom but did also obtain a rigid heddle. I need to warp it so thank you for the inspiration. A knitting podcast I love is Back to Blighty. Let us know what you think. As for weaving UrbanGypZ weaves on a rigid heddle with art yarn.
Hi Lisa, Just came upon your podcast. Enjoyed this episode. It renewed my interest in weaving. Years ago took a few lessons & wove a scarf. Find reading & understanding weaving drafts intimidating so I haven’t pursued weaving. This video has me considering buying a small loom like yours to give the weaving enchantress a chance to catch me :)
The rigid heddle is so easy and intuitive. A shaft loom seems way more complicated. I am loving this small loom. It’s so easy to pick up and weave when I feel like it. I hope you give weaving another try! Love, Lisa 💕
I have just begun my weaving adventure with an Ashford loom. I am loving it. I am trying the Kelly Casanova weaving school and it is brilliant. You can trial with a monthly subscription so it is very inexpensive. It pays for itself.
@@SoulfulSpinning she has a lovely gentle teaching style and is so informative. I am currently doing her pick up perfection class and I think it just blew my mind. I may need to have a small nap.
@@SoulfulSpinning I have only had a loom for a week. I did one scarf and then decided I needed the class. I opted for a monthly subscription to see if I would use it. I think I love it. I wove a placemat and it turned out amazing. I am so much happier with the loom now.
I love the 2 yarns added to your weaving. I’ve been weaving a lot with my hand spun and love it. Also I think adding art yarn in shawls and some sweaters as an accent is beautiful. If you want another easy option for short rows look up Japanese short rows. They are super easy and you can use then instead of other short rows.
I like the teddy 🧸 is your maskut. These past few days I been out in the hills and very close to the mountains. I remember that my mother said the greatest gardener is God. I have been enjoying the wild flowers. Maybe you need to look around to find a brighter springer color to knit up a lighter sweeter for Teddy 🧸. 😊
Jane Stafford is amazing. I belonged to her online guild for a while but I’m not quite ready for a shaft loom (yet). Thanks for the recommendations and for watching. Lisa 💕
I love yarn arts. Knit. Crochet..round looms....I have never weaved but would love to. Do you first recommend a cheaper loom like perhaps a Harrisville peg loom?
Hello there! I am not familiar with that loom but I’ve heard great things about Harrisvillr looms. It’s sounds like a great entry point. If you’re interested in rigid heddle weaning I highly recommend Kelly Casanova’s channel here. Best of luck in your journey!
You have inspired me to pull my rigid heddle out of the back of the room! :). And thanks for the resources - much appreciated. I will be sure to share if I come across others you may find useful. Did you spin the art yarn on a spindle or do you need to do that on a wheel? Love how it looks in your weaving!
I have spun art yarn on a spindle. But it has to be a big one. I find my Ashford e spinner and my Majacraft to be best for art yarn as they both have large capacity bobbins. Most wheels will have l larger bobbin option I think!
@@SoulfulSpinning I understand. I have some of Jen’s fine Shetland and it requires a bit of time to process. I actually just ordered the Valkyrie mini extra fine combs so I can work on that soon. I’m a Patron of Rachel with Wool and Spinning and we just added a Zoom where we all work on fiber prep together. I fine it’s a good motivator to do it with others. I’d love to see you there.
Thanks for reminding me of her channel. I remember watching her years ago before I thought about weaving! She’s awesome. Happy Mother’s Day to you as well. 🥰

I was thinking Charlie needs a spring sweater!
I love listening to Steven fry trad the Harry Potter series i just love his voice x
Joyeuses fêtes des mères 💗
This is so perfect. I just set up my first loom how did you know?!? Lol
Hi! Jane Stafford has a ton of great weaving videos on RUclips. And a book you might find inspiring is Crazy Shot by Myra Wood. Happy weaving!!
Subtitle: "Peaches among the marigolds." 🙂
You have inspired me to pull my rigid heddle out of the back of the room! :). And thanks for the resources - much appreciated. I will be sure to share if I come across others you may find useful.
Did you spin the art yarn on a spindle or do you need to do that on a wheel? Love how it looks in your weaving!
I have spun art yarn on a spindle. But it has to be a big one. I find my Ashford e spinner and my Majacraft to be best for art yarn as they both have large capacity bobbins. Most wheels will have l larger bobbin option I think!
Lisa this is unrelated to weaving but I was wondering if you ever finished spinning the soft Shetland for your hap shawl?
Hi there! No, that project is languishing but I do still want to make one.
Something I am curious about is what are you using to pack your warp when winding on?
Trish at Fibre Love Diary and Jillianeve are good podcasts on youtube
I follow UrbanGypZ. She uses all kinds of art yarn to make gorgeous weaving. Thank you for your channel. 😊
Hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day🎉
Thanks for reminding me of her channel. I remember watching her years ago before I thought about weaving! She’s awesome.
Happy Mother’s Day to you as well. 🥰
How did you decide which Rigid Heddle Loom to buy?
Im a new viewer- had every book you recommend but had a house fire 3 years ago - just moved into new home .. have decide what to re buy. Lost everything.
I’m so sorry for your loss, absolutely devastating. Thanks for stopping by the channel. All the best to you as you replace lost items. Take care. 🥰
What kind of paper are you using for your warp?
I’m using some old scarp book paper. Worked great for this size!
@@SoulfulSpinning good idea!
Thank you for sharing and your inspiration in all the fiber arts ! ❤
I also found curmudgeon66 to be a nice youtube resource for weaving. 🎉
