Making sideshow Bob a cultured intellectual was a stroke of genius from the writers
It`s a brilliant contrast to the main cast
He reminds me of charles emerson Winchester from mash if he actually ever snapped.
The irony behind it, of course, is that he’s constantly foiled by a ten-year-old boy; a fact which is even referenced in the episode “The Day the Violence Died.”
Which is the reason why I like him
I am watching Frasier again. And all i hear is Sideshow Bob and his brother Cecil Terwilliger.
Kelsey Grammar has the voice of a cigar drinking a fine whisky in front of a fire.
@Lewis 970 (TT)
No it's a sherry smoking a pipe
I thought you meant Selma Bouvier and was like wtf
Poetic.
Damn, that's spot on!!!
Kelsey Grammer has one of those great oratorial voices. When he was cast as "the Beast" in the old X-men movies he was exactly how I pictured Hank McCoy to be.
Exactly. Brilliant, educated, and a giant blue, eyeglass wearing, furry mutant. Perfect.
Sadly he was in the worst one, The Last Stand, really wished he would've been showcased as Beast in a better film.
@@MobinKiadeh He did have a cameo in Days of Future Past.Sure it's right at the end but...
He was a perfect hank Mccoy and can still play him since the character requires all that makeup.
I would love to see him come back as Beast for Deadpool 3
Something you dont get on american talk shows: a guest speaking for nearly 2 full minutes without interruption
That's why we Americans just watch podcasts now. No one watches talk shows.
@John Matrix definitely hyperbole, but not by much. Even older folks are getting wise and cutting the cord.
Interruption by fake laughter
not a mention of politics! more hate towards kelsey, in the comments if so.
@englishmanspeaks i think that the main reason why they are becoming less relevant, especially in the context of talk shows, is that most of the time they are just there to fill the time slot, are asked stupid questions by a lame host (there are a lot but jimmy fallon is the first to come to mind----- just terrible), and generally don't have anything of value to contribute which would mostly be the fault of said host and the direction in which they steer the conversation. It's rare to have someone keep an interesting conversation going on a topic that can inform and entertain the audience.
I admire Kelsey for being able to continue with his passion and entertain us at the same time despite the trauma he's endured in his life
What happened to him ?!
@@diataa4674His father was killed during a home invasion in 1968. His younger sister, Karen, was kidnapped, raped and murdered in 1975. And in 1980, his two half-brothers died in a scuba diving accident :(
Also, considering the character itself, I would think that would be triggering. You voice act a man who is obsessed with killing a little boy every which way possible and mostly chooses a knife as his killing method. With Karen, she was stabbed several times and her throat slit. I can't imagine then playing a guy who wants to murder knowing that I have personal memories of such terrible things.
He has my respect, because he really sells the psychotic, murderous character to Bob; it's actually astounding.
Wow 💔
The passing of his wife? I mean how many did bill shatner endured, he kept going like the energizer bunny… no pun intended. Although I don’t recall if he had any kids.
And there I was thinking Sideshow Bob was just Kelsey Grammer speaking normally
The full story behind the baby is actually really interesting. He talked about it on Conan.
Aѕĸ
I thought the very same thing when he played Frasier. I didn't realise that he sounded more like your average, regular U.S. American and not the more refined, cultured gentleman that he is in the sitcom.
Robert McElwaine - Frasier had his normal voice on cheers, but it became that upper class accent on Frasier. I think it’s explained somewhere that his voice on Cheers was due to him wanting to fit in with the regular joes at the bar.
I never realised that. It's been a long time since I've watched cheers but I'll need to find a clip of it with Frasier on here, and see for myself. I suppose it could have also been explained away that the reason his voice changed was that he was just being pretentious. You know, just putting on heirs and graces when he moved back to Seattle and tried to fit in more with the snootier in-crowd.
I loved it when they brought in David Hyde Pierce to voice Bob's brother, Cecil.
I love Kelsey Grammer, he's appeared in so many of my different fandoms: Simpsons, Star Trek, Transformers, X-Men, and Expendables.
"Guess who?!"
"Maris?"
@@DFWGrapher that line killed me 🤣
He was also the prospector in TS2
I think they also used the voice of Frasier and Niles' dad as the voice of Bob and Cecil's dad.
@@livelifeincolour lol for real?!
Kelsey Grammer, Sir David Attenborough and Stephen Fry, voices I could listen to all day.
The comfort of listening to Stephen Fry reading the entire Harry Potter series is just incredible.
Alan Rickman
Jeremy Irons and Charles Dance too.
James Earl Jones, Morgan Freeman, H Jon Benjamin, and Karen Carpenter are my 4 favorite voices - I can listen to any of them without needing to see them.
@@StaffordMagnus oh Charles Dance🥴
I hope he keeps voicing him, Bob is by far one of the best characters in the entirety of The Simpsons
No it’s German. It means “The Bart The”
_"No no, that's German for 'The. Bart. The'."_
"No one who speaks German can be an evil man"
@@nevermindshort3 "Oh I'll stay away alright...stay away...FOREVER."
I'll send you to Heaven BBC audiences, before I send you to Hell!
In case you were oblivious, the German “die” is literally pronounced like the letter “d”
Case dismissed, and sideshow bob walks towards the screen
He's one of the last stars who can truly do a mid-Atlantic accent. It makes everything he does that bit better
He was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands & educated in prep schools, so maybe that has some influence on the way he speaks.
@@thejenr8tr922he speaks how Americans were intended to.
Peter Dinklage is pretty good as Tyrion
You mean like Peterman on Seinfeld? 🤔
*Watching the legend that is Kelsey Grammer*
*camera zooms out*
“Holy dear God almighty!!”
I would actually pay money to hear the entire HMS Pinafore opera singed by Kelsey Grammer
Kelsey Grammar and John Lithgow have the best / most iconic villain voices for animated characters.
Bart: If only we knew what he was thinking right now.
Sideshow Bob’s mind: I hope they still make that shampoo I like.
Sideshow Bob is such a magnificent villain, and at least 95% of it is Grammer's work as his voice!
Didn't realize Kelsey was such a great story teller. Loved listening to this story! :)
He should do a podcast
Salma Hayek was one of my very first celebrity crushes...after watching this video and seeing her sitting there, I'm starting to feel like I'm 13 all over again XD
Yes! I had to scroll so far to find a comment about Selma. Sure this was about Kelsey but Wow. Just wow!
@@BronzeAgeBryon I know. I got really distracted every time they'd show her in frame.
@@BronzeAgeBryon Kelsey was in this video? Sorry couldn't take my eyes off the clevage.
T!ts McGee
Just thought the same thing
Those things need to come with a warning label
Kelsey has the most "upper class" american english that almost rivals the english it self...
@Rob M Fight me
It's called Mid-Atlantic accent.
@@thomasnolastname8734 Got 50 bucks on you. Hope you fight
@Rob M always that one guy
Rob M and not that Texas hillbilly slang lol
Lawyer: "What about that tattoo on your chest, doesn't it say 'die Bart, die'?"
Sideshow Bob: "No! That's German for 'the Bart, the'."
that line gets me every time
"No one who speaks German can be an evil man."
I really, really miss Frasier. And Niles. And Eddie. And...everyone else.
EDIT: "How can we, men, use sex to get what we want?! Sex is what we want!!" Golden.
Or "Pump up the volume and call me Kitty....all talk, all night, all naked" :D
Daphne
I have them on an external HDD. The episode with the ski lodge (I am not gay Guy:)))) or the one when he falls in love with his boss :))), etc.
Agreed
He actually said, I'm not Gay Gee! :D
Anne Daly-Crowley
you are right. Will go watch the episode again :))))
Kelsey has one of the most recognisable voices in Hollywood.
He has a doppelganger in Hollywood. The doppelganger was in transformers
I am a Frasier addict. And it's all this man's fault.
Best sitcom ever.. Thank god for Netflix having literally every episode available to watch whenever you want!
utopianfurbiscuit not in England >:(
That sucks its not available across the pond...honestly am sorry to hear that haha
Hulu has it as well if that's available there. And I agree, I've loved it for years. Nothing else like it.
one episode in particular ..... BOO! lol and RIP Marty Crane :(
I like how on The Simpsons David Hyde Pierce (Niles Crane) is his brother.
John M John Mahoney (Martin) was their dad
John M yea he was Sideshow Cecil!
John M, That was the whole running plot/joke of the episode "Brother from another series." David, as Cecil, even gives a reference to Maris, Niles's ex-wife. However, that joke can slip if you hadn't watched the earlier seasons of Fraiser.
@@alking7655 That was a great part of the episode. Bart covers his eyes saying "Guess who?", to which Cecil says "Maris?".
Kelsey Grammer was the perfect voice actor for Sideshow Bob not only for his deep, haunting voice but he was also playing Fraiser a psychologist on Cheers (and later on he had a spinoff show). And they're ironic characters.
His voice reminds me of how people sounded and spoke back in the 1930’s-1960’s. Love it
I wish more sitcoms had more of Frasier style in them.
Maya Labey just any sitcom lol
There aren't any more high-brow writers in Hollywood
Kelsey has one of the greatest voices in hollywood imho
Sideshow Bob was the best off and on Character on the show. It was always a treat.
There were a few episodes as well where David Hyde Pierce, who played Niles Crane on "Frasier", did the voice of Sideshow Bob's brother Cecil. Seemed like such a good choice considering the two played brothers for over a decade on "Frasier".
😲😲 didn't know that.
@furrymonkeything I think Cecil is first seen in the episode "Brother From Another Series". Once you see it, you'll see why they called it that.
@@bluebear1985 I have seen the clip 😁 I'm such a fan of Fraiser I don't know how I missed this. It tickled me to hear the familiar voices and sibling banter in this Simpsons clip.
John Mahoney also showed up as their father, another Frasier connection.
RIP John Mahoney.
Big fan of Fraiser and the Simpsons at the time, was really excited to see David Hyde Pierce as Cecil. They did sneak some Fraiser references in the episode as well, when Bart jumped on Cecil’s back and covered his eyes and said “guess who?” And Cecil replied “Maris?”
I clicked for the video and got bonus Salma Hayek!
Sideshow Bob has been my favourite since I was a kid. Second is his Brother.
SSB: ‘I’m older, I get the top bunk!’
Cecil: ‘Oh poppycock! I called it at the arraignment’
Cecil: “so… when do they bring us the menus?”
From the days when the Simpsons was both stunningly brilliantly and a cultural reference point. Love the show but those days were extra special - in no small part to amazing contributions from fantastic actors such as this gentleman.
"I've... grown accustomed to your faaaaaaaaaace" ---- it won't go away xD
"With dreams, of gouging out your eyyyyyyyyyyyeeeess"
**Takes tape off of mouth** you’ve grown accustomed to my faaaaaaaaace

KELSEY GRAMMAR DESCRIBES SIDESHOW BOB AS “FRASIER PICKLED IN ARSENIC”
I'm so thrilled that Frasier is coming back to television. ✌🏻😃
Sweet Jesus Salma Heyek is absolutely stunning.
I'm sorry, what did you say? My mind was preoccupied on something.
Sorry, I had a lot of "two" things on my mind....
I am normally not a fan of the "talk show" but Graham Norton is 20 times better than any of the late night swill that we have here in America.
It is because Graham Norton creates a fun environment so it seems like a group of people who want to be there rather than someone showing up for 5 minutes to promote some film and then leave.
Which of course they also do promotions on the Norton show but it at least seems fun.
@@MC-yt1uv his guests are drinking and relaxed.
Kelsey looks like Graham's older brother with that blonde hair.
Sideshow Bob freaked me out as a kid, now he’s one of my favorite characters.
Kelsey is such a great performer.
That Ellis Rabb voice Kelsey has for Sideshow Bob sounds a LOT like Dr. Smith from Lost In Space (Jonathan Harris)
Really similar, nice catch.
This story never gets old.
Kelsey has one of the best smiles in show business!
Sideshow Bob! best character from simpsons
deffinetely
He's actually very good at impersonations, in one episode of Frasier(when he does the daytime talk show) he does a couple of impressions..One of James Mason and one of Sean Connery.
As much as I admire Kelsey, I couldn’t take my eyes off Salma ☺️
How Kelsey Grammer can sit next to Salma Hayek and not explode is a mystery to me.
One word: Acting!
Right? I'm half way around the world and 7 years later and I exploded 4 times at once.
I would have proposed marriage with 60 seconds.
mate you mean Tamsin, surely?
@@frankfisher8423 😂😂😂
Ironically, Ellis Rabb played a character in a 1st season "Cheers" episode:" The Spy Who Came In For A Cold One". Could it be possible that a very soon to be popular, and lauded TV actor was working for him at that time?
He has a slight old Arnold Schwarzenegger look to his face
Yeah, he kinda does!
Get to the choppa Niles!
I could listen to classic simpson stories all day
Hello, Bart!
Errrr, can you sing me the entire score of HMS Pinafore?
AHH! SIDESHOW BOB!
"I have a life outside you Bart."
I love Sideshow Bob hes my all time favourite Simpsons characters
It's interesting the difference in way he reminisces here vs. on Conan when he told the same story. The Conan version you can tell Kelsey was very touched by Ellis saying that to him, and the audience can understand that because he shares more of the backstory on Ellis' life there. Here, it is rushed and more of just a funny way to use the Sideshow Bob voice.
Salma Hayek is really distracting me from listen to my man Kelsey Grammer
Yes
i didn't see her and then i did a double take i was like when did those get there ?
Salma Hayek is so gorgeusly hot,my god....
Same here... at a certain point i couldn't focus on his story anymore :D Those are distracting...dammit
She is just there meeting and hearing the version of the Simpsons she most likely didn't watch lol. That was me a couple of years ago lol
0:48 At this point in the video, I became distracted and had to rewind it to hear what Mr. Grammer said. It took several rewinds to make sense of his dialogue, and I don't know why this happened.
I love Sideshow Bob so much!
If Salma Hayek was sitting next to me looking at me like that, I would not be able to talk, so cheers to you Kelsey :D
I thought I was the only one who noticed that lol I don’t think I’d be able to contain myself if Salma Hayek was next to me 😳 lol
Props for Kelsey for eye contact with Graham knowing that rack is a foot away from him. DAMN!
Salma Hayek just sitting there looking absolutely stunning. Not even saying a word and had my attention every time she came on screen.
3 years later checking in, the casual comfort how she's sitting on the couch is just...
i love frasier so much
lura garcia I agree with you. We should date each other, baby.
If you slow his voice down, it’s a spot on Orson Welles impression
I can't imagine telling stories on stage while Selma Hayek is intently staring at you from the next seat.
Met Kelsey a wonderful person he is
Sideshow Bob is my favourite Simpsons Character. I've been a huge fan of Kelsey Grammer since the early 2000's. The talant that this man has is amazing.
I love side show Bob's voice. I've seen K. Grammer singing as Frasier character and never quite like it. I did adore the CHARACTER'S refine or pompous preferences. Sideshow Bob has that with a perfect voice. ❤ it.
that hit of nostalgia "oh Bart, I just despise you"
I know who Ellis Rabb was because he came to the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco in the late 60s where he was a featured player at the time. I remember him in a production of St Joan with Kitty Winn (she played the female protagonist with Al Pacino in Panic in Needle Park). He had a theatrically distinctive voice that was authentic and not forced. Kelsey made a good choice using his voice for Sideshow Bob.
Sideshow Bob is my favourite character ❤️
He should do audiobooks in Sideshow Bob's voice ❤ He's my favorite character in The Simpsons, mainly for the voice 😁
I love him for his singing. 🎼
finally we've got Fraiser on since his brother was on years back
Kelsey could easily qualify for an Englishman.
You should watch “Breaking the Bank”
@John Matrix because he has the elequent charm of an English gent and yes.
Oh he really really could
He remains an Eeeeeeeeennnnggliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisshh maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnn!
He himself has said it!!! And its clearly to his credit!!! That he is an englishman!!!
Both he and his daughter does awesome voice acting.👏👏👏
Oh my god, I'm having traumatic flashbacks to my childhood 😳 I used to have nightmares about sideshow bob killing me and Bart! 😱🙈
At least you hung out with Bart.
Lol, that's a silver lining i guess ;-)
Fathayha Begum Well, it sucks to be you.
Kelsey's voice made Bob the great character he is- my favourite laugh out loud quote- "Attempted murder"? Now, honestly, what is that? Do they give a Nobel prize for attempted chemistry? Well, do they?"
I never put two and two together that the Prospector in TS2 was the villian until rewatching it as an adult and heard Sideshow Bob's voice in him and went, "huh... The Prospector sounds a lot like Sideshow Bob..." lol
Selma's reaction at 1:52 says it all haha
Kelsey is a god
This story made me smile. Very broadly.
“This guy; I’m gonna use him someday…” 😈
Salma be lookin so fine. I hear you though Mr Grammer
Sideshow Bod is honestly one of my favourite characters in Simpson. My favourite is Bart #1
Salma Hayek is Sideshow Bod :D
COULD NEVER SAY ENOUGH ABOUT KELSEY 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Sideshow Bob was my nickname in gradeschool. Loved this character ever since.
Yep, Side Show Bob is my favourite and my second favourite is his brother, voiced by Niles.
Cecil
Who recognized him from Down Periscope?
Love the movie.
Kelsey is a friggin gem
He has the greatest voice.

Kelsey Grammer and John Lithgow are the most 'classy' sounding Americans I've ever heard. I say this as an American too, of course. XD
It's the Mid-Atlantic accent
How about James Earl Jones?
How can you smile, laugh and cry and the same time???
I LOVE Kelsey!!
What an awesome personality & talent Kelsey is.
How the HELL can he contain himself with those 2 wonderful ladies at each side? It's good being man!
Kelsey Grammer is the best ever.
Nice little back story to a great character.
I could listen to Kelsey read the phone book. His voice is so soothing.
LOLOLLL he is hilarious even when he is not Frasier.
Sideshow Bob makes me laugh with everything he says. Especially early episodes.
Frasier Crane is a god!!
Kelsey Grammer is an American treasure
I can't think of a recurring guest role so wonderfully written and, as a result, so obviously relished by its performer. And I'm not just talking about recurring guest roles on the Simpsons, but on TV in general.
While I'm at it with the S's, I was thinking about the eps featuring Albert Brooks. I haven't sat down to do it, but if I ever find myself with a wet weekend and bugger all else to do, I might go through all the "A. Brooks" episodes and cross-reference them with a few of the more highly regarded lists of 'best episodes'. I can think of one right outta the gate. "You Only Move Twice", with Brooks as Hank Scorpio. Definitely in my top 10.
