- In late 2023, as Nicki Minaj's album Pink Friday 2 approached its release date, Barbz (Nicki stans) created the viral trend 'Gag City' to promote Nicki's new music. The fans quickly developed Gag City into an expansive pink fictional world by welcoming celebrities to the metropolis and even some large brands, like Spotify, began to set up shop in this stan twitter mystical world. However, the term Gag City, in reference to Nicki and her projects, wasn't first used in 2023 and the foundations of Gag City were already being laid back in 2022...

I began scripting this video on the 31st of December 2023 and recorded the audio on the 16th of January 2024. After recording the audio for a video, I only edit that single video until it is completed and uploaded. This video has been in the works for a while and was scheduled to be posted today, (as I have previously stated on my Twitter). By posting this video, I am in no way attempting to comment on what has transpired over the past day, nor am I commenting on any party involved. : )

@@dustmite7558 Basically, after Megan dissed Nicki in her new song, HISS, in which she said, “These hoes ain’t mad at Megan, they mad at Megan’s Law” which was a shot at Nicki’s husband, and her brother, as they are both registered sex offenders, which is what Megans Law is, and said Nicki got Tina Snow (Cocaine) up her nose, she responded on ig live, previewing a track, that went, “Bad B*txh, she like 6 foot, I call her “Big Foot”. A b*tch fell off, I said get up your good foot.” Which was a reference to Megan getting shot in her foot, by rapper Tory Lanez, and Nicki then proceeded to like a bunch of tweets mocking Megan, and her getting shot.

It seems to have lasted longer than dojas demon bs… it also was the highest selling female rap album of 2023… she surpassed doja in 14 days. Doja had 91 at that point. That was really just a starting point too. So maybe factor in efficiency and effectiveness….

I think it would have been fine if it was JUST barbz using AI. Nicki is a multi millionaire, she has the money to hire artists. People saying “AI isn’t actually hurting artists-“ IT IS! Companies are laying off their artists in favor of using AI, or just straight up never hiring them.

I don't give a care if she uses AI images or not, as it is part of the aesthetic now, but perhaps it would be a better look if she hired a real artist to make images in the style of AI. That would put to bed the classist angle

For those of ya'll wondering about those pointing out the timing of this video's upload in regards to the topic: Meg thee Stallion's "Hiss"' has a lyric mentioning Meagan's Law, a law regarding s3x offenders. Nicki took that personally because she's married to one and went off on a live over it and apparently wrote a response where she made fun of Meg's looks and also her foot injury from when Tory Lanez shot here.
Nicky's brother who she supports is also a s3x offender, he violently assaulted an 11 yr old child and his lawyer's defense was to say other men had done it to her before so it was ok (Nicky paid that lawyer)

It's probably because she doesn't actually give a shit until it starts to threaten her directly. She gives less than a shit if other artists stuggle and get snuffed out by lazy imitations, but if it proves any threat to her form of capital, then she will have something to say about it. She's a 1% first and foremost before she's an artist. She'll only start to care about AI art if it proves to be a threat to her income.

The thing with creating AI of real people is that you're training the program. Which can then be used for shitty things like porn or discrimination. Taylor Swift was already targeted and idk how many more exist. Fans need to be more aware of what their 'harmless' fun is enabling.

The rollout for this album was a mess. Nicki is an A-List artist and probably one of her labels top earners. She most DEF has the budget to come up with her own visuals and art. I feel like her focus hasn't been on actual promo but rather chart updates on twitter. The Gag City theme just seemed to inconsistent in terms of looks and aesthetic.
ok as an artist I just wanna say I hate ai. It steals from us (the tools to make ai use images scraped from the entire internet which includes millions of pieces of art that these companies making ai tools have no rights to, ai has at points literally just copied whole drawings one to one directly) and these stupid ugly shit removes the whole point of art! Making art is why art is important, soulless images mean nothing. They carry no love for who your making them for and I find it disgusting. It’s disrespectful to the people you Stan, disrespectful to art as a concept and disrespectful to artists who actually take the time to pour their love and emotions into something for a creation they love.

I just got this video recommended and let me say this: Nicki was using the AI barbz made as promo, because it BLEW UP. Every other artist would've done that. Looking at the official artwork for example Beep Beep ft. 50 Cent or even Big Foot now, it was all made by a hard-working graphic designer called Xanderworld. Everyone in the comments is saying how she's in the wrong, when she literally just promoted something the Barbz were doing...? It gave us the stamp of approval to keep it going.

I didn't even know about the gag city thing so thanks. I wasn't a fan of Minaj before due to not being into rap music. Now I'm even less of a fan because as an artist I know these are all images that were mashed together from real photographs and artwork taken by real human beings. AI scraping should be a crime but legally it often isn't considered one. People who claim gen AI is "a tool" only really mean it is a tool for stealing art because most of these are trained on scraped images. If you are an artist who still has a twitter account know this - they have it in their TOS that they will scrape all of your content for their own gen AI.
