These tapes show the genius that Liz Phair was capable of when she was left alone to do her own thing... her later albums show what was left after the record companies tried to make her fit this or that mold. Rolling Stone named 'Exile' one of the 500 best albums *of all time* in 2003; nowadays most people who don't know her from the early days haven't heard of her at all.
Now that Liz has officially released the Girly-sound recordings, it turns out she was calling this song "Bomb" back in the day. Makes sense once you listen to the lyrics. :)
Oh. My. God. This is wonderful and so haunting.
This version is my favorite! The third unnamed girly sound tape is one of my favorite albums
In the 4 years since I commented this I’ve learned to equally love the Exile version, but I’m still struggling to appreciate the WCSE version of Polyester Bride lol... Anyways how amazing is it that we have each tape available in high quality on streaming services?? What a dream come true lol
I think of this every time I fly.
This song is stuck in my head permanently for some weird reason.
@@tysavoy5593 it's a masterpiece of human creation, that's why :p
i think i like this version better! thanks :)
just looked up brigit bardot for stewardess comparison. probably shouldn't have done that from a school computer :x hehe
@honeydoll2 Your welcome! Sorry it took me forever to respond. I kind of forgot about youtube for a while.
This sounds more like Cat Power but with a different vocalist but I still love it
lady has an awesome sound but!!! bad managment she would sell over here in the OZ
Jane Siberry sound to this version.
This is a rare example of where the updated version (1993) is much better than the early demo. I love the "Exile" version and play it every time I'm flying somewhere.
I disagree. I like this version much more.
Ok....
Why do you think the Exile version is better?
Because "it took an hhoourrrr" is the best bit of the song
Because the chorus on the Exile version is fucking killer? This version is cool too, but thank god we now have the remastered Girly-Sound tapes released on matador, with the songs playing at the correct speed.
This rapes my mind so right.
