One of the reasons I chose to live in Portland over Seattle is because of our transit system. You can get around effortlessly without a car here. You can get the occasional crazy person on these trains, but that is just a part of living in a big city.
I take this train every single day from my home in beaverton to my job in Portland. I usually just use my phone or read while listening to music. Most of the time the service is very reliable and I’ve only noticed more frequent delays on the oldest line, which is the blue line that serves Gresham. The nicest thing about the max is how seamless it is with the busses and streetcar (downtown tram) - they all use the exact same fare method and you can just exit one and board another as long as you tap your card. And it caps out at a day pass so you never get overcharged. (Does the same for a month pass after 30 days of riding) The only real complaint I have is that, aside from the station at Washington Park, which is in the center of the tunnel between Portland and Beaverton, ALL of the Max’s infrastructure is above-ground, and when it needs to go through downtown it can be affected by traffic congestion. On the upside, they are going to be closing some of the redundant stops downtown to speed up the trip through it. Also, it just looks really cool seeing it gliding through the streets on a rainy day.
I live in the suburbs. Love getting on the nearest TriMet bus or MAX train, putting in my headphones and putting on music or a Podcast, just looking out the window and just riding to the end of the line. So relaxing and honestly weirdly fun!
So it's pretty easy living in Portland without a Car? Like they have a pretty good transportation system....me and my Wife are taking a flight there pretty soon and we don't have our own Whip right now
Im impressed. Coming from a small(size wise) city Boston we have a huge subway system. Portland looks to be very extensive for their even smaller size as well.
Compared to Vancouver’s sky train and Seattle’s Link system it seems really slow. It’s unfortunate that it runs on surface streets in downtown Portland. They should have separated it from traffic and pedestrians.
MrSquareart Light rail is only meant to connect cities that are close to each other, so connecting Seattle and Portland would be completely out of that range, since the two cities are almost 200 miles away from each other.
@@notsure6187 New Jersey Transit runs light rail systems in Newark and Jersey City/Hoboken/Bayonne across the river form New York City, there is the Air Train in Queens, New York that connects the Long Island Railroad and the subway system to JFK Airport, it is similar to the Vancouver Sky Train system, there are plans for a trolley/streetcar system for Brooklyn.
Yes, but why would you do that? Trains are already a major investment with a lot of fixed infrastructure, so adding wires doesn't add much cost; it's more efficient to provide power than to have it carry around batteries or fuel.
1st, You really do not have to make bad comments about MAX. MAX and WES are both really great and reliable transit trains. 2nd, this is a video about a LIGHT RAIL, it clearly says in the title, so you don't have to say that the WES which is obviously a HEAVY RAIL is better and the train in this video is about MAX not WES so you should probably just click away, and watch something about WES
basketballfan 008 pretty sure he’s joking, the WES is a relic. It doesn’t even have its own line, it shares rails with the freight tracks, and holds up 3 roads of traffic in beaverton every time it comes or goes from the station. It only runs a few times a day lol
Portland Oregon tram/lightrail....the moving safespace on rails! lol jk no hate....but i hear Portland is a big laughing stalk off the country just like LA,Seattle, and San Fran are..
I lived in Beaverton, and used to go to sunset tc center to get to Portland on the weekends

you will find that in a city whether there is a good transit system or not.
It's also a byproduct of homelessness here. We need to build a lot more cheap housing and get these people off the streets and into decent jobs.

Εξαιρετικό! Μεγάλο μήκος, πυκνά δρομολόγια, υψηλές ταχύτητες και ικανοποιητική πληρότητα σε επιβάτες! Πολλά εύγε!
I love light rails! The one in Portland is my favorite! Please do more
I thought it rains alot there where is the protection from the rain.? There are all these open stations.
This type of public transport is revolutionary...hopefully more cities can implement these to relieve traffic jams
it's so cute omg
I love the fact that the light rail system is connected to the airport!
Love the new cars!
Really good!
Beautiful video

great video!! is the ridership pretty high?
123,200 daily riders in 2017
Hank McAff as a daily rider during commuter hours I can say yes, perhaps too high! It’s packed like a sardine can some days.
I ride MAX every day. During rush hour trains are so crowded that you cannot move. It has extremely high ridership relative to the city's population.

Portland is bigger
@@TheRichb688 Portland is about 50,000 residents behind Boston and the metro area around Boston is far more. I live in P Town
I can see that the buses are overtaking while travelling on the bridge. It might be slow on that case
Nice light rails!
I love the trimet max green line and good catch anyways timosha
Gotta love home!! MAX stands for Metropolitan Area Xpress

Great video. Liked and subbed.
Could the Portland light rail ever reach a bigger city? Like seattle?
What do you mean?
@@chris4484 It seem like in the east coast like NY and NE Jersey the light rail and subway can go the next bigger city yet that not a goo example.

there is no light rail in the NYC area

If only light rail wasn’t so damn fragile. And if only Portland’s light rail wasn’t so damn slow.
Are light rails scary?
Terrifying...
@@timosha21 is it worth it ?
Nice
THIS HAS BECOME A VERY DANGEROUS RIDE...DEFUNDED ALL SECURITY !!!
You will never beat Melbourne trams
You wish.
Damn that's a slow train
This is a light rail and it’s not designed for high speeds
@@zakmatew But I mean you can have conventional trams going 60-70 km/h, why would this system be so slow (or at least look slow) on isolated tracks?
Cityguysims perhaps they need to update it and have motors achieving higher speeds.
Why do trams always rely on top wires for power? Cant they bring their own fuel like buses and cars?

That is incorrect, Portland is looked highly upon with its transportation, mainly its streetcar system
