  • If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change how you think about it. When I change my life I change my perspective and instead of focusing on my strengths I focus on my weaknesses.
Change is uncomfortable and challenging both when it happens to us and when we make it happen. It can make us feel terrified and limited as well as encouraged and liberated and that´s ok. Change is never easy but it always is a chance.
I hope you enjoy. Thank you for watching!

I think I was searching for change also…change from the hectic stressful life I had. So I quit my job, sold my house and changed my life. I too live in the Azores, on Terceira. I now live like I want, as the person I choose to be, stress free care free. I hope it continues to work out for you…happiness and peace to you

    Hello dear Rahel!
I am a big fan of Herman Hesse, who after many trips in Italy and India finally landed in Europe on a Swiss lake. He was considered a stranger by many, including his family. But in spite of everything, his natural writing style made him recognized as one of the greatest writers. I feel you are so related to him.

Dear Rahel, there is a lot to discover about these things..so much in one post!
The natural sensitivity, being part of an experience,
creates the responcibility for 'The Life's which you are..,
and should be hold dearly, like a diamond in your hand.
Guilt, as Meister Eckhart long, long ago explained to us, "is not a 'thing' to be given"..it just wouldn't work, the feeling does not match with the action!
Guilt then he said, "can only do it's great work, inwardly, when it is factually owned".
I thought always like everyone, that little children are more sensitive.., as the society around me said.
But we should actually say: We LOST the sensitivity in time! ( witch clears the problem better)
Many years at early school, we got psychologicaly trown around, battered, bumbed, scarved and loaded with 'guilt'..
And only by corrupting ourselves (=The Life), we have been socially accepted( or better..culturely accepted), becoming 'hardened for life'.
Which was even by parents valued as 'good for you' good for later in life..( a betrayal.., although they did not see :-)
And there you go, with a good education, and psychologicaly hurt.( but at least hardened for yourself)
Let us not forget, that 'social' and 'culture' are a thought-construction, not an eternal idea, there isn't any unconditional here!
As Jiddu Krishnamurti once said to us: "The Life creates us in so many forms, but culture tries to push us all in one mold.., how grotesque!"
And then there is this 'emotion'..
Another action of the brain.., this time recognizing the chemical triggers used to make the experience new..
And again and again..not the fact itself.., as a tool to nurish the 'me'..
    Or??
Thanks for sharing, be your own light!

    • @RahelStadler
      @RahelStadler  2 года назад

I very much appreciate you taking the time and sharing your insightful thoughts, Thomas.
What you say about children's sensitivity and being hardened for life stood out to me the most. I find it so interesting how small children are purely themselves and just speaking their truth until they are told otherwise and then their essence gets hidden in this hard shell and at some point in life some of them try to get through this hard shell to find their pure self again. It seems like a different version of 'The circle of life' . And it seems like we should take better care of our inner child.
Thank you for giving me food for thought.

@@RahelStadler , thanks, and you have triggered me yourself :-)
I excuse me to all readers, using not much examples, writing things with less words, being it just a 'comment' as a guest..
It then becomes hard to 'see' in daily use.., sorry for such a telegram-style.:-(
....children, you know of by yourself, do need to learn much, their brains work 'overtime'..
There is nothing wrong with that, it should be so.
Everything practical must be learned, nothing practical was there from yourself, right?
But from the first second on, knowledge wasn't there, but you felt a lot.
The action of such a temperature change, hanging on your feet, did make you screem as never before! Literally..
You didn't have anything else to choose from, and it worked, feeling the warm embrace of your mother so quickly!
And the brain remembers, action makes result!
Knowledge starts there, and probably even earlier..
But you, as being Life yourself, without knowing it, was loaded with true feelings.
It did come with Life which you are.
And there is never ever somebody who started without thàt.., healthy or not healthy, all of us.
These were reactions, directly as it should be, with NO interference by knowledge..clear and simple, no backpack of knowledge in between.
So, the senses were first, and should stay 'the first', they are pure from Life.
      More pure..cannot be.
And why on earth did I have to loose that???
Why should I be what I am, with only the mostly 'second hand' filling of the brain..knowledge?
Why should I later be compared to others, while I am already thàt, the sensitive Life..so unguilty.. unconditioned.. authentic?
Being unguilty.. unconditioned..authentic, should there then suddenly be a winner or a looser?
A good or a bad human?
Meaning actually: The Life made a mistake, and we know it better?
Ohh, my goodness, how many brainy teachers did I have, for which this sense of Life did not even exist!
And yes, they make this love themselves.., I love my wife, I love my child, I love my house, I love my car...etc.etc.
Like we now all do..with our brains.
That isn't greatness, it is smallness.
But hey, I have been part of that, I have still a lot to 'see' and discover.:-)
Thanks for the triggers in your good video work!! :-)

@@ThomiX0.0 there is no need to apologize for writing long and detailed messages. There is no wring or right. It's your way of answering and I appreciate you sharing your thoughts in whichever form, shape or length.
I agree with what you are saying regarding that senses should stay first and yes we tend to learn to suppress certain sensations or feelings but the good part is that we can rediscover and reconnect with our senses, if we are willing to work ourselves through all the layers of trained behavior and in some way it's actually a privilege to go on a journey of finding what has been lost, it is a chance to rediscover life and purpose. There might be a reason why we have to relearn certain things in our life.

    • @ThomiX0.0
      @ThomiX0.0 2 года назад

@@RahelStadler , thanks.., it is very comforting to mention that there might be a reason to relearn our sensitivity in Life..:-)
To me it is like a shelter on the camping ground..the grass under it will die out.:-)
Parents, out of care, might give their child a present, saying 'this is only for You..',
but care it might be, the 'love' to enhance the child with things from outside, is 'putting a shelter at the camping ground'.
'The Love', the one who isn't a thought from us, seems to be grounded in Truth, and Beauty for that matter, being all one.
In this way, there is a present given to play with, but it isn't yours..(and never becomes You) and nothing is there to defend it, it just IS.
In other words, knowledge separates YOU and your stuff, while Wisdom free's us from boundaries, as they simply do not exist.
A circle drawn at the beach, makes you in it, or out of it..
But You made the circle..it did not exist.:-)
We all know the results of that..later in time..

      @banana1618 2 года назад

Andy S I have found that dealing with the ups and downs of Life are a lot easier to accept if one understands and accepts that "everything is perfect in its imperfection".... There are so many 'questions' about 'perfection' - for example: what is perfection in its truest essence? My perfection is, most probably, not your imperfection - so perfection can be subjective which sort of brings it down to a very basic level which I think is not the 'type' of perfection one wants to adhere to when one is looking (and striving) for perfection (which is?). Believing that EVERYTHING is perfect as it unfolds (when things go wrong, or unexpected success in something, feelings of happiness, sadness, trauma, etc.) is a good start, imho.

    • @RahelStadler
      @RahelStadler  2 года назад

@@banana1618 i very much agree with what you say but as always it's easier said than done especially if you throw expectations into the mix. Aren't we creating our own illusion of perfection by having immensely high expectations in life and having always an opinion about things should be? So believing that everything is how it should be also implies that we get rid of expectations don't you think?

    • @banana1618
      @banana1618 2 года назад

@@RahelStadler as always Rahel, you have raised an interesting point.... expectations, desires, judgements can be rolled into one giant ball ! And, again - as you say - it is easier said than done to not have expectations, etc - but and there is a but... can we change our perception of our reality (er, ahem - I saw a video recently on this very topic...) - like do we always need to expect a certain outcome? One can start even if it is in a small way. I can think of one simple example - which is a good way to illustrate what I mean: say someone has done something to us which we think is nasty - what is our reaction (note reaction - not response)? (And the reaction will depend on the character of each person so afflicted) but generally there is an instinctive desire for some sort of equal exchange - something equally nasty to happen to the perpretator of the nastiness bestowed upon us.... Instead, consider: that whatever needs to happen (to that person), will happen and leave it at that? And although we suffered, we allow ourselves to have no expectations of what will happen - or not happen - to the perpetrator. Clearly some crimes/nastiness are really serious which cause extreme trauma/pain/damage so I'm not talking about such cases. To begin with, notice instances which are minor where one feels aggrieved and then try and forget about it - like where someone cuts in front of you sharply without any warning/signal as you are driving causing you to swerve and nearly hit another car. Now, instead of reacting by giving certain finger signals and hooting insanely, you remain calm and have no expectations about the incident - other than perhaps question if that person should be driving. In fact - by having no expectations - and just observing whilst driving, it is surprising how often one sees "instant karma" happen. I am trying not to be flippant as this issue deserves more. But, I hope it is possible to see the point I am making?
Several hundreds of books can be written about such topics... I have barely scratched the surface of the first book's cover.

I don't mean anything with my comment.
And I'm not a filosopher (more a day dreamer)., Your video's/Images and the comments you make are very spiritual, but with a touch of melancholy..!!
Like your fleeing from something (I refere this to my own experience). And on Pico your thoughts emerge from the depth. And now you have time and space to think. find out questions, seeking for answers, And the time to built on your future.
At least that's what I make of it.
Maybe I project it to much on my own situation.
the expresion is that you can flee and go to another place on earth. the past stays in your head.. I wish you built a future on Pico and someday i would like to meet you. and talk about the beauty of the Acores.

@@jorgevalentin2014 thank your for your explanation.
I believe your perception of me might be a reflection of yourself.
You are right, I think ' melancholy' is a big part of who I am but I perceive melancholy as something positive about myself. I very much appreciate the melancholic side of myself.
Actually I really like the word 'melancholy' and I just googled the official definition and I personally don't perceive melancholy as negative as described.
I often get perceived as sad or the words I say or the music I choose but I personally don't perceive it as sad or depressing.
I perceive it as a sentimental mood, an inclusiveness of all feelings and therefore an acceptance of the presence and experience of both positive and negative emotions.
I have a very big range of emotions and feelings and I like to embrace all of them. A good mood or good emotions doesn't necessarily mean to me that I feel pure happiness.
I certainly am not fleeing especially not from my emotions.
I am literally not able to flee. Suppressing or ignoring my feelings or thoughts doesn't work for me at all because I feel and remember basically everything.
I am kind of doing the opposite of fleeing. Since a very young age I sit with my feelings and I reflect, face and develop or transform my feelings.
Of course our past stays with us doesn't matter where we go and it makes sense since it shaped who we are today. Dealing with our past is creating our future and influencing our present and I work on that daily.
The more time and external peace we have and the less distractions and things we have to do the more space we create for everything including the dark, ugly, uncomfortable and painful parts of ourselves and I am all here for it.

beautiful photography and words - yet again. For me, the words in this video are the most profound I have heard you say to date (although on reviewing past videos that may change...). I am beginning to think that, if you continue on this path of self-discovery and continue discovering and reaching new depths of the self, you will need to open a classroom providing courses to those who are on a similar path. Of course, bearing in mind your characteristics (as described by you), you may not have any desire to do so so at present, so, if (or when) the time is right your mind about that may change.
Your ability to find those hidden locations on the island is amazing (and welcomed). Seeing life under the surface of the water - in all of its different forms was breathtaking and then a mermaid appeared - never expected that! lol
Thanks again - take care, Rahel.

Thank you so much, Charles for your appreciation. It's always so inspiring to hear your impressions.
I very much agree with what you say about my words in this one being the most profound. I definitely pushed myself with this one.
I believe it's a natural development because I'm learning so much in process of each of my videos and each of them provides me with a bit more of what I need to tap more more into my true potential whereas in the beginning I had solely a vision but I didn't really know what I was doing and I had no idea how I could possibly transport my way of being and express my true self through films and I was still a lot more scared and confused than I'm right now.
So I guess that's what learning by doing looks like.
Thank you for having faith in me and for considering me leading self-discovery courses some day in the future. I feel very flattered. But yes you are right, at this moment in life I can't imagine myself doing that but I certainly don't exclude this possibility since just one year ago I never imagined myself having my own RUclips channel let alone having so many people enjoying and appreciating my content. So I'm excited to see in which situation I find myself in one year from now.
I was honestly thinking that I would run out of places to film on such a small island but it's truly impressive how much more there is to discover in a single place by (again) simply just changing the perspective and the setting, different angles, different light or weather conditions make the appearance of a single place change drastically. I might have not filmed as many different places as you might think but I find frequently entirely new places which I have never seen before and I find great pleasure in rediscovering well known places and challenging myself to find something new every time I return.
Sending my best wishes to you!

Rahel, this is another wonderful video full of wisdom, worthy having its content put into the book. What a great way of looking at the so called “weaknesses.”
In my spiritual journey, I have found that everything is neutral, not “good” nor “bad”. It is our perspective, our beliefs and thoughts about things that make them into “good” or “bad.”
The summer views (I am assuming this was filmed during summer) are simply breathtaking! Really inviting. I don’t know if you have done it already, but if you have not, maybe you can put the clips from different seasons and create a video called, “seasons in Azores” or something like that. And, if you did, I look forward to seeing this video as well. Thank you. Eve

Hello Eve, thank you for your kind words. This video was indeed filmed in August and during the time I was filming this it happened to be probably the hottest days I have ever experienced here in the Azores. It was around 38 degrees celsius with extremly high humidity. The behind the scenes were not that much fun but I love the outcome as well, so it was definitely worth it.
I have not made a video about the different seasons in the Azores yet. But thank you for the idea. I'm going to consider making such a video.

@@RahelStadler Wow!!!! Thankfully, we have not hit 38 degrees Celsius in Miami, but it felt like it the past summer. We are used to the heat and everything from the houses to our offices to our cars is air conditioned. I don't know how you manage without it. YIKES! Hopefully, this coming summer will not be so hot/humid.
You probably have enough additional footage now to create the video about seasons in Pico... when you are up for it.

@malgozata1875 totally without air conditioning it can be unpleasant in the summer time nowadays thanks to the climate change temperatures are no longer moderate.
I do not keep additional footage but it could be a nice little long term project.

@@RahelStadler Yikes! Yikes! How do you cope on those hot summer days? How do you cope on the extra cold days?
As for “seasons” video, it’s just an idea for when you can’t think of anything to make and have the time and inclination to make another video. That’s all. No pressure. No obligation. Pure freedom.

Im moving to Pico from Canada in the near future. Its a stunningly beautiful place but I wanted to ask if you ever become complacent of your surroundings or take it for granted? I have extended family there and I find that they take what they have for granted. By that I mean the beautiful surroundings, the ocean and the nature. Perhaps its because its all they really know. I wonder if because we come in from the outside we appreciate it more or do we fall in the same trap of getting used to it and taking it for granted also.

    • @RahelStadler

Hello Brian. It's good to hear from you and this is a very important question. Thank you for asking.
I believe there are people who are gifted and have the talent of being naturally appreciative and grateful.
Those people are appreciative and grateful about the good things and the beauty in their life doesn't matter where or how they live whereas others who live in the same place and experience the same circumstances are more likely to complain or taking something or a place more easily for granted.
Being appreciative and grateful is a mindset which some people just have and others have to continuously work on their whole life.
For example there might be people who appreciate the exact same place where you live at and where you want to get away from very much even though they experience the same positive and negative aspects like you do. ( I'm not implying that you are not grateful or appreciative of what you have in Canada )
It's easy for almost everyone to appreciate and to be grateful for things and places which are new and exciting and look like paradise to us but as soon as we are living somewhere longterm and have a daily routine and get to know the downsides about that place and properly live somewhere, we experience times in which we are less grateful and appreciative than we would like to be.
Because life becomes normal doesn't matter where we live. So for most of us appreciation and gratefulness fades over the years the more we dive into normality unless we actively work on our awareness and actively practice appreciation and gratefulness on a daily basis.
The Azores are a wonderful place to be and for sure in the first year(s) everyone is very appreciative and grateful to be here and then reality sets in and life happens and we experience challenges, negative aspects about the islands and personal problems and the paradise disappears in some days and we are facing the similar issues like anywhere else.
That's just my opinion but I believe if we have struggled to take things and places for granted where we are coming from, we will take things and places for granted sooner or later doesn't matter where we are unless we change our attitude towards it.
So to answer your questions, being grateful and appreciative doesn't come natural to me, so i do experience phases where I become complacent of my surroundings but I am aware of it and I continuously practice to get a more grateful and appreciative mindset. I have been improving a lot but I have to put in the work.
Sending my best wishes to Canada!

Been in Scotland all my life. I absorbe my energy to live from the details of my surroundings, the tree, the grass, the colour, the form, & so forth.
We, as all Creation are connected on the same network. The network of needing AIR.
Like the weather in our details of life, it changes, to rain, hot, medium or all in one day. Such is life. Our moods & over thinking can lead to dark or positive thinking.
