Shooting this episode with Charli D'Amelio and her family was so much fun. How do you feel about TikTok? Obsessed, kinda sorta into it, or can't deal with another app?
liked the interview more than expected haha. they really blew up over the pandemic timing (a lot of people did at that time - since most people were at home and online). think it's just kind of luck (algorithm) being true to yourself / showing personality... that 'it' factor... they were already well-off and charli had a background in dance (went viral with tiktok dance videos)...
Respect how Charli is kinda real and grounded. Very articulate too. Thank you for this Emily. As someone who lives in a country where TikTok is banned, this was a good look at the other side of this.
I don't get much of it either but not everything is about being better or being the best at a cognitive or motor task. Specially for teens that reject any obligations imposed to them such as anything that may resemble school. Influencer industry seems (to me) to be about finding yourself to be representative of a culturally valued trait.

Tiktok needed some famous teens to promote their app overseas in the beginning. The Chinese now know more about your kids then you do.
Boo hoo
I’m not hating, but the “content” created by these so called stars is laughable. Where is the skill? Where is the talent? I just don’t get it.

Can you make 100 million watch you? That's a talent in itself
so new, Bloomberg ftw
