    Thanks for simplifying the install. That was pretty much what kept this on the backburner for me. I know it’s tough as a solo dev so thank you for taking the time to make such a great tool🎉

    Now that I tried it, the tool is amazing and has so much protentional to it.
    I have a few suggestions and notes:
    1. Adding a field for notes. Sometimes you know the word but the structure of the sentence is what caught your attention, and a note section would be beneficial for that.
    2. I know this feature is available, but whenever I add dictionaries lute refuses to open the ones I added. I am not really sure why.
    3. when a word is at the end of a line and is divided by hyphen to the next line, lute does not highlight it in red and does not show the meaning when you hover over it. (although the word is saved in the terms section)
    4. I think employing AI is a good idea. If it is possible to export a text from the document to AI website and ask about it (it feels like talking to a native and it can help you understand words and their cultural aspects more than dictionaries).
    all in all great tool, I am very thankful.

      Thank for the notes, always good to get feedback. Some of these are already in github issues (1 and 4). Re the dictionaries, perhaps they need to be configured as pop-up, see the manual, or jump into the discord to chat with others. hm, 3 is weird ... perhaps it's split into separate sentences/paragraphs? I'd need to see the data (in discord or github is best).
      Since Lute's free open source, I and others get to things when we can, if they're interesting and useful. 🙂 Cheers and best wishes, jz

      Why am I not surprised to see Lamont here. I know it might be too much to ask, but are you planning on making a video on Lute in the future? Or would it be too much of a legal gray area for that? From my admittedly limited experience with it so far, it deserves a lot more recognition.

      @@properpolymath2097 Well, Lute essentially behaves like LingQ but it's completely free and, in theory, available in all languages. I thought it might be difficult to promote it as a content creator that relies on sponsors sometimes.

      Hey there, great that you find it useful. I use it a lot, it's a good tool. Yeah, that "playback speed" design isn't very intuitive, is it? From the manual: "You can increase and decrease the playback speed by hovering over the playback speed control and scrolling up or down. Clicking it resets the playback speed to 1.0, the regular speed." -- give that a shot, see if it works. Cheers!

    I really like it but need a lot of help with pronunciation. Do you anticipate audio file support one day? I’ve been quickly cutting and bouncing phrases from audiobooks and videos since I dislike the automated voices.

    • @jz4901
      @jz4901  10 месяцев назад

      Hey there, yes, Lute _should_ have audio support. :-) **I don't know when it's going to get added though**. Also,, I hadn't thought about letting users add their own audio files. Any Lute audio support would likely be doing something with voice-generation APIs like Amazon Polly etc, but maybe there would be a quick workaround for your particular case. How do you manage your audio files?

    • @spectator-o8h
      @spectator-o8h 10 месяцев назад

      @@jz4901 I just keep the files on my computer. Right now I have been putting phrases and sentences into anki from audiobooks/ ebooks. Cutting audio up with Logic. I am experimenting to see if the theatrical interpretation makes my brain think they are worth remembering. I feel like a robot copying the voice-generation.

    • @jz4901
      @jz4901  10 месяцев назад +1

      @@spectator-o8h Ah yeah, that makes sense. I've had good experiences with Amazon Polly for Spanish, not robotic at all. A natural sound does help. I haven't rushed to add audio support b/c I actually find it distracting when reading and marking up text, it's either too fast or too slow. I do like audio though, so sometimes I listen to it independently.

    Hello, came over from is4ndroide's video. Is there a way to sync the data to another machine? I assume I'll have to copy the data and rewrite it when I come back.

    • @jz4901
      @jz4901  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Aadrian, you're correct. There's no "sync" mechanism, so you'd copy the data from one machine to the other. All of the data (db, images, and audio) are saved in a single folder, and you can just copy-replace the folders. By default, Lute might store the info in a folder that's sort of hard to get to -- it stores it in your "app data" folders, wherever that is on your system -- so you can also set up a config.yml file in the root folder of your Lute to save the data in an easy location. (is4ndroide's video was great!) Cheers!

    The installation guide in this video is useless if you don't know how to install python and pip (or whatever that is) ... which I don't know how, where or what to do. I could not figure out how to do it even with the installation manual. So I guess I'm just stupid and not tech-savvy.

      Hello, tech is confusing sometimes. Usually google can help (e.g. search for "install python 3"), but even that can be tough if you're overwhelmed technically. Lute's open-source software and, like Anki, is not for everyone. If you're looking for an out-of-the-box solution, I highly highly recommend you check out LingQ, it's a great tool and they take care of the tech for you. Best wishes!

    Hi, I know nothing about code and I need a "super dummie" way to re-open that application. I used the pip thingy to install and it was running. So what are the exact steps to re-open the application? Is there a way I can open the app with one click from my Doc? To be honest, this whole thing seems extremely complicated for no reason. I'm just trying to learn spanish and I've learned more about coding than my actual target language at this point. I have zero interest in learning any coding terminology or making sense of the information. I just want to follow steps that are guaranteed to work for me, without me having to trouble shoot and understand any sort of detail involving code.

      Hello there! Did you install using pip, or Docker? If pip, then a few common things overlooked are:
      - you have to "cd" into the directory where you did the original pip install
      - you have to activate your virtual environment
      Try it out. If it doesn't work, it might be easier to assist if you're on discord. If you got it working before, you'll get it working again :-) Cheers!

      Super! With your book, take it slow and steady. Lute keeps separate bookmarks for each book, so you can keep one long book going, and read several smaller stories or whatever to help build up your vocabulary. It can take a while to get through one book, but when you do, it's a real feeling of accomplishment. Good luck!
