LYRICS:
Oh hark me crew, and attend to me.
(Stand your post, and sing it loud!)
It's another fine day on the ISD.
(Let's make the old man proud.)
Our orders sent us toward the rim...
So keep his girl in a fighting trim.
Chorus:
Fire the engines, chart the path,
We're off to deliver the Empire's wrath.
His the brain and ours the brawn,
We sail for Old Man Thrawn!
His battle plans are a work of art...
As he tears the enemy ship apart.
With a full TIE flight like a wave of death...
And a turbo salvo like dragon's breath.
Chorus
So roll, Chimera! Bring her round!
We'll run the Empire's foes to ground.
And remember what the legend said.
The devil's eyes come burning red!
Chorus
Given that Timothy Zahn Himself liked this epic, awesome and so artistically done shanty, let us all agree that this is canon, no matter what.
in Every enlisted ISD chow room
I am so hoping he writes this into the next Thrawn novel...
They need to get this in the Ashoka series.
I second the motion that this is now canon. All in favor say AYE!
@@Skye_Writer aye ye filthy spacelubber
Oh my gosh, this fits perfectly.
Or, as a certain chiss might say: "It was so artistically done..."
I want to say too soon, but it was written 40 years ago...
We will watch your career with great interest.
-Palpatine
This is one of those things in life you never realize you needed until you come across it.
Would like but 66
I'm going to go ahead and demand that if Thrawn does ever show up on Mando that the crew should start singing this, while he quietly smiles. Bonus points if they start singing right after the ranking Imperial tries to push Thrawn around.
A nice fade to black as the camera pulls away looking at Thrawn’s back as he overlooks the bridge after besting the ranking imperial with him and wins the day. The singing keeps going as credits roll. It would be glorious!
I mean, as Grand Admiral Thrawn is the ranking Imperial wherever he goes...
@@adonoghuea02 true, depending on how things shake out. Last we saw him the Emperor was still alive and he was being dragged into hyperspace by whales... who knows how he fits into a New Republic held galaxy..
I'd love to see the Mandalorian actually showing the Imperials as competent for once and fucking shit up. Thrawn in Rebels has been the only Imperial character so far to do this and still gets beaten by plot armour.
A single waste trooper is mopping and starts to whistle. The tune is picked up by all nearby Imperials. By the time of the second chorus, cut to en exterior veiw of the ship. the entire ship is singing. Pull the camera out to show a small task force.
Now THIS is a shanty, a specific type of song with a "call and response." Awesome.
Thanks! And something tells me you get just as playfully irritated as I do when someone calls 'Wellerman' a shanty. ;)
"And remember what the legends said -- devil's eyes come burnin' RED!"
.
My fave part. So much passion in that part! You could get swept up in the fire of it. It almost makes me feel like a proud and patriotic Empireian.
I'm really glad that moment popped for you. Sometimes when I'm recording something, a moment will jump out at me and I'll think 'ooo, that felt like it had weight,' and half the time (even on songs people like) the listeners will be drawn to some completely different element (not that I'm complaining). It's always cool to know when a musical moment that had an impact on me while recording it had a similar impact on someone listening to it.
@@twinsunsentertainmentfor the record- mine is “and a turbo salvo like *dragon’s breath*”
Now this has instantly become one of my favorite things on the internet.
I can imagine this song playing as the Chimera and her fleet engage New Republic forces
Oh please let that happen
Amazing!❤ love your shanties!
With it almost certain that we'll see Thrawn in a live action Disney+ show at some point I demand they work this in somewhere
That would pretty much validate every decision I've ever made in my life, wouldn't it...
Impressive, most impressive
Learning the lyrics right now, so I can chime in at the next convention, when it will (hopefully) be sung by the members of the 501st!
YES
How did it go?
A headcanon idea:
In the later years of Thrawn's career, during his time with the Imperial Remnant, it was recorded on several occasions that the crew of Chimaera would sometimes change the chorus line
"we're off to deliver the Empire's wrath"
to
"we're off the deliver the Empire's last"
I literally need this fanfiction right now.
WAIT YES
@@TheJediravenclaw Working on one now actually 😂
*song ends*
ISD Captain: *slow claps* My, that was very well done. However, I don’t think the Admiral will be too pleased when I inform him of your little... performance.
Thrawn: *appears behind the captain* I actually quite liked it, captain. It had a certain beauty to it. Your men should be rewarded.
Edit: I forgot Pellaeon is actually a pretty cool captain, for an Imp.
Or as Sean Connery would say. "Let them sing"
Captain Pellaeon, you especially should be rewarded. For organizing this endeavor.
@@JonathanLundkvist A fellow Hunt for Red October fan I see
Be glad it wasn't Admiral Daala amiright
Does everyone else hear Lars Mikkelsen's Thrawn when reading that line?
Holy shit...please do more. Different eras 😭 different groups
a perfect shanty for one of the only Imperial commanders worth following. good work as usual.
Thanks very much! There have been a few times in life I've found myself in a leadership position, and I think I ended up taking a few lessons from Thrawn. More on the 'empower your team to make their own mistakes and discoveries' side of things than the 'execute those who are willfully incompetent' side, but nevertheless...
Great song! I can totally picture Faro singing this to hype the crew
This is awesome
Artistically done
"Let them sing!"
EckhartsLadder needs to see this!
Perhaps
Well done! Do the old man proud!
Now a real challenge would be for Admiral Trench
I have not been able to find any good Star Wars filk until this..
Excellent work
Many thanks!
I just saw this on Facebook - so glad you made a RUclips account so I can favorite this here
oooh that last note hits just right
Thanks! This was WAY back when I was just making these using the Acapella app, which required you to sing through the entire piece in one take every time. I think that was like my sixth attempt at the tenor line, and as I was approaching the end all I could think was 'do NOT blow this take on the last note.'
This is fantastic
I love these songs, and my constant playing of them has gotten my 8 year old into Star Wars... but I also briefly had the line "We simp for Old Man Thrawn" run through my head, and it reminded me of so many conversations with grognards through the years. ;-)
First, if I have done nothing else in my life than helped a child get into Star Wars then it yet is a life well lived; I'm honored to be part of that. :) Second, simping for Thrawn, oh MAN would that be a different kind of song.
Regarding grognards and older versions of things, I'm definitely curious to see how much of the Thrawn in the Ahsoka series is going to be the more nuanced anti-hero of the current canon novels versus the stone cold villain that he was in the original Heir to the Empire.
All Hail the Empire
I can see the Chimera as an old galleon with the design we see on the star destroyer carved on the bow.
That’s a great image. Now I’m picturing Thrawn in a Royal Navy captain’s uniform, utterly unfazed as cannons fire all around him.
Bravo, sir. BRAVO. May the warrior's fortune be with you.
This is an amazing song.
Beautiful! I always wanted to hear star wars sea shanties!
Thanks! Season Two of the project should be coming out soon!
YAS!!!!!!!!!
This Bops. I cant stop saluting my monitor.
PURE Classic!
I'm all for these Star Wars shanties I'm finding.
Thanks! More to come pretty soon!
@@twinsunsentertainment 👀
Can't wait!
This justifies RUclips's existence.
OMG....this is so awesome! Thank you for sharing this--I can't get enough!
This is excellent!I was wondering if you could post the lyrics? I maybe would like to share it at my next virtual pub sing
Just added them to the description! Love me a good pub sing. :)
I love how this still has no thumbs down.
Still holding strong.
This might be the greatest thing I've ever watched in my life.
Space shanties are a lot of fun!
I hope Filoni and Favreau catch wind of this and it sneaks into a new show!
As Gunny Hartman would say, "Out-fucking-standing!"
Awesome! More Please, would love a full album :) keep up the good work
Wow! You have some talent here sir, not many people on youtube can do this sort of thing well. Especially not about star wars lol
Frickin amazing
Epic. I can see his red eyes glint with amusement when he heard this.
This is so glorious... Absolutely perfect! Now I want a Star War alternate universe with an 1800's style!
WE NEED SOMEONE WITH AN ACCORDION TO BACKTRACK THIS
This on repeat while playing Thrawn's Revenge mod.
This is amazing, thank you !
I feel like a Warhammer 40k themed shanty would be dark, creepy, and amazing. Props on this, I love it!

Not a bad ratio
This is criminally underviewed
You should consider doing a Mandalorian one based on the lyrics from the Republic Commando soundtrack :) I love this though!
“Although the song is sung quietly In engineering spaces and gunnery stations across the ship, nowhere is truly out of earshot on a vessel such as an Imperial Star Destroyer. Especially one whose master wielded information as both sword and shield.
In a dim meditation chamber deep in the heart of the Chimaera, red eyes are visible as just slits in the dark. As the sounds of the common, but jaunty tune came through the speakers of his command chair, one black eyebrow arched delicately.
And as the chorus rang out, blue lips curled - ever so slightly- at the edges.”
Oh I love that take. I had one person paint a picture of one of Thrawn's officers trying to shut the thing down, but him just saying, 'No Lieutenant... let them sing.'
Nearly a year later and I'm still coming back to sing along. Thank you Master Bard
Thank YOU for coming back. New one’s finally dropping.
Subbed! If I ever get around to playing Assassin's Creed 4, I'm SO playing this over the gameplay!
I don't know if I'm the only one who noticed this, but I like how you conditioned your face to look like the "expression" of stormtrooper helmet.
That’s it, from now on I’m telling people I have ‘Resting Trooper Face.’
It's a crime against The Empire that you don't have at least 50k.
I will spread your tunes far and wide.
Hey, thank you. That's very much appreciated. Juggling a new day job and fatherhood, I haven't been great in the past year about content updates, so I can hardly blame the algorithm. ;) But hopefully you'll see a strong uptick in my posting shortly.
Wow, I'm so glad I got sent this! This is incredible!
Thank you, Commander! It’s an Honor!
Amazing!
Glorious !!!
Too bad the actual Empire would discourage this kind of behavior, it is really good.
Truth. I somehow don't see Palpatine being overly into jaunty tunes.
@@twinsunsentertainment I wonder if Thrawn would allow it in HIS empire
@@kinga6347 I mean, it strikes me as something he'd be OK with, as a way of boosting crew morale. Plus I can't imagine him being the sort to *discourage* artistic expression.
@@kinga6347 As long as it's sung off duty and doesn't interfere with ship operations, I don't see him taking an issue with it.
They would but I have this image of it being sung in mess halls, bunks, small engineering compartments, gunnery stations or sections of the bridge on the night shift with a particularly jovial officer. Everybody is trying to avoid Captain Pellaeon from knowing but in reality, Thrawn does know as he most likely stood in the shadows listening at some point or another.
Great song and singing!!!
lol love it
I had to come back here after that look at Lars Mikkelsen as Thrawn in Ahsoka leaked. As soon as I saw that pic of him this was all I could hear.
I'm honored, and I dearly hope it doesn't become an earworm that distracts you when watching Ahsoka.
Brilliant!! Thrawn would be proud!
Close your eyes and you can see the star destroyers and frigates maneuvering into position before jumping into battle.
I want more! The Empire is the way to go!
This is absolutely FANTASTIC
Pure perfection, thank you for making my day
Rukh takes Thrawn, check yer mates!
This is the best thing to ever grace my ears, thank you
This is gorgeous.
Dear god I need this in my Star Wars playlist.
Now THIS is music.
A clone/old republic themed one would just be amazing.
I choose to believe that Eli Vanto is the caller.
Bravo! Bravo!
You sneaky, sneaky bastard, you can sing this with the Imperial March...
They totally sing this in the mess hall of his flagship.
It’s good for morale.
Now that Thrawn is all but confirmed after the latest season of The Mandalorian, I'm eagerly anticipating this ditty getting the small screen appearance.
That would be unbelievable, but to be honest I'm just stoked to see Thrawn in live action. I'm very curious whether they'll be pushing him full villain a la Heir to the Empire or making him more of an antihero like in the recent Zahn novels.
This is sooo good.... :D
Imagine a bunch of stork troopers singing this
Have to wonder if this song filtered out to the rest of of the fleet, and if so how many imp captains got mad as hell when they heard about it. Wouldn't be shocked if quite a number had steam coming out of their ears.
Something regarding Thrawn winds up pissing off the other Admirals and Captains in the fleet? I am shocked, I say, shocked. ;)
@@twinsunsentertainment Absolutely impossible, everyone knows the brass loves him :P
Also just had the random thought of this song being sung in a scene like in the Search for Red October when the US sub hears the Russian sailors belting out their anthem.
Please add this to your Geek Set with Rose, or sing it with Randall because that would be epic too!
So artfully done! The ysalamiri salute you!
Now there's a wonderfully disturbing image. ;)
I like to think if The Thrawn Trilogy was adapted to film, the Heir to the Empire start with this song sung by the Chimera crew after the Star Wars title crawl.
Love it. Watching the Chimera flying through space (echoing New Hope's opening), with the sound of the crew singing it overdubbed, perhaps.
@@twinsunsentertainment my thoughts exactly
Saw a fanfiction with this song. Was very funny.
Wait what?! :) I've broken into Fan Fiction? That makes me unreasonably happy. Please tell me you have a link.
@@twinsunsentertainment
I have the link but I can't send you it. RUclips will block it.
@@twinsunsentertainment
It's on Archive Of Our Own.
Put "Old Man Thrawn" in the search bar and it is the first result.
Another song from you is in there too.
if they don't use this in Ashoka, we riot
Aw, that's high praise indeed! I'm just gonna thrilled to see my boy blue in live action for the first time.
Thrawn does quite appreciate a good show and art...
I *reeeeeally* want these tracks broken down. For uh, reasons.
The plan is eventually to maybe get an album done... but no reason why that couldn't include sheet music...
Can you do a cover of the clockwork man pretty please
This must be in the Ahsoka series!
Of all the SW projects that are out in the wild right now, I think Ahsoka is the one I'm looking forward to the most.
I love to use this song for admiral Hackett and admiral Yang
I could see Hackett's crew being on board with that.
@@twinsunsentertainment thanks
@@twinsunsentertainment Maybe you should do a song similar to that for him
