Actually, Martin said that it's difficult to catch up with Regine in a duet because aside from her powerful voice, Regine does long phrasing that a male singer needs to match. I get the feeling that his mic in this performance is adjusted in volume.

I just realized that Filipino music arrangers make the best medleys with the best transitions.

I joined a singing contest hosted by Regine Velasquez (I didn't make it to the finals but definitely the experience was superb!) and we were rehearsing at her house and I got to have a little chit-chat with Regine's father, Mang Gerry.
He said that in this particular concert, the volume of Regine's mic was only half the whole time and Martin's was set at the maximum. Martin kept on exclaiming that it was so tough to sing with Regine, and as you'd evidently notice, he was sweating the entire performance and Regine was fresh as the morning sun. 😍
That's one powerful voice she has there. 😎

There are a lot of great performances between these two Philippine musical giants and this is one of their bests and maybe the best ever 💖 a lot of us still wonder if they can still do a repeat performance for this medley.
Heck! Martin Nievera's voice when you hear it live sounds EXACTLY like it's the recorded version. It feels so surreal to hear them both sing live. Totally different from other singers. You can definitely feel their aura.
Finally! This is one of the greatest duets of all time! You see both Regine and Martin at their best, simply amazing.
I remember in one of Regine's interviews about this concert, that the hardest performance is this broadway medley. She even joked about maybe their musical director thought they're not human with this arrangment but it was really hard 😂. Their musical director is Gerald Salonga who happens to be Lea Salonga"s brother. this concert is really so classy and a masterpiece for me. I wish i could've seen it live.

i was there...and it was magical....we were at the back of ZsaZsa Padilla.....once in a lifetime moment ...got so many goosebumps and chills all over my body...worth paying concert...❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️...got my shirt signatured by Martin,Jaya,ZsaZsa....amazing moment for me that night🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

@@ilol5039 I'm an 80's kid who grew up loving 90's songs and continually loved music to this day including kpop songs. Tho I don't also get blind adulation of some kpop fans to their fav idols even with subpar songs/performances, there are great songs and talents in kpop too, same with american pop, same with opm and songs/singers from other countries.
This performance was part of Martin and Regines 2003 World Tour Concert Series. That's why the medley is so well crafted and arranged. At this time they were at the height of their vocal prowess and could sell out an entire venue in a snap.

Regine is always at her best when shes singing with martin. Martins fave voices of all time is Regines.
Martin nievera is gary V's contemporary....during their younger days they used to duet a lot on either one's comcert. Martin is a teriffic tv host as well.
I WAS HERE LIVE!!!! I was only 8 years old then and it was the first concert I attended, but everything was so vivid to me. I can literally feel the arena's vibration when Regine belts. This 2-night concert was so big that even the Philippine's President attended it with her (I think) 30+ escorts.
FACTS:
1. Did they act together? YES ---- in fact, they have a mini skit in this concert shown in-betweens where they TORRIDLY KISSED 🤣🤣🤣 They even spoke in a different language and dubbed it in Tagalog to make it look like a Telenovela (Spanish dubbed in Tagalog)
2. 10 years after this, Martin admitted in an interview that he and a crush on Regine during these times
3. Martin, the PH Concert King, already had a big name when Regine was starting and he and his ex-wife gave her more exposure, even suggested Chona (Reg's nickname) should use the name "Regine".
4. During the concert, Martin's mic was set to maximum volume, while Regine's mic was set to half so that Martin cannot be overly powered by Regine's voice easily. Regine even had migraine attacks during these numbers, so bad that she was rushed to the hospital after the event.
5. Up to this day, in spite of their 30 years of friendship and contributing huge histories in each other's career, Martin is still surprised by Regine's capabilities, often claiming her his favorite singer of all time.
This duet and Regine's Sometime Somewhere performances are two of my most favorite Regine performance of all time. So classy, so beautiful without overdoing the belts and runs. Simply potrayed a classic story telling thru singing.
Gary Valenciano is the Mr. Pure Energy and Total Performer whilw Martin Nievera is the Concert King of the Phils.

From what I’ve read, Regine wasn’t actually feeling so well during this concert and she was rushed to the hospital after. Hopefully you’ll get to react to their performance of “Forever” and “on the wings of love” from the same concert. Anyways, very nice and informative reaction. Love it ❤️

im 45yo and I can say Sir Martin Nievera is still unreplaceable, his vocal quality is one in a millions... and he's a great composer too, he should be a national artists.
Congratulations Waleska and Efra! You always have on point observations and opinions. I agree that muscle memory is very important in singing. That is actually one of Regine's techniques especially she's been singing throughout her life, and it really helped her to maintain her vocal prowess until now that she's 50 with acid reflux. She's such a living legend, and also to Martin. Queen and King 🤴 👸.
Fun fact: Regine was having a terrible headache (migraine) throughout this performance. But as they say, the show must go on.

My sister named her sons Martin and Marco because their fave singers are Martin Nievera and Marco Sison. They have a lot of wonderful songs.
Mesmerizes and blows me away every time. Martin has such a golden voice. As matinee idols of the 80s, Gary & Martin were pitted against each other in every facet of performance: music, tv, movies so it's really perfect that they ended up as the best of friends. You should check their powerhouse tandem concert "As 1" where they sing each other's songs... check iTunes, there's an album born out of this brilliant world tour. Gary has these throwback gems in his YT channel.
Martin also has Wishbus perfs of his iconic songs. His best doesn't have nearly the views it deserves: Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin.

Yes. Martin and Regine are very close together. Factoid: it was Martin who coined the name Regine when she was starting out. Her original name was Chona Velasquez (short for Regina Encarnacion Velasquez) but her manager thought Chona sounded provincial and campy. So Martin, who guested her at his late night talk show Martin Penthouse, suggested Regine. Theyve toured and done shows together. She's also really close to his ex wife Pops Fernandez who actually asked her hubby to go out on a limb and have Regine as a guest despite being new to the industry. So in a way Regine owes her success to Martin snd Pops which she never forgets to recognize.

Theres many singers that can belt better than regine. But, theres this some sort of magical enchanting thing with regines styles of belt. Theres emotions the feeling. Best Story Teller.. and you cant help but to crave for more of regine... she sounds much much much better live... i tell you she can blow you away literally. Shes indeed the best live singer... should watch her live...
Remember Kiana Valenciano’s guitarist on the Wish Bus? That’s Martin’s son. Kind of second generation musical artists. You should check out Zsa Zsa Padilla and Lani Misalucha, contemporaries of Martin, Gary, Regine and Jaya. Zsa Zsa also has two daughters who are great singers, Karyllr & Zia Quizon.

That guy is Martin Nievera our Concert King. He’s actully one of the 2 people who first discovered Regine and saw her potential when she was just starting, the other guy being sir Ronnie Hennares her first and longest manager and together they paved the way for her stardom. Martin consider his self as Regine’s biggest fan.
