I didn't catch many pike this year compared to last, but of the few I did catch, most of them were on topwater and most of those went fully airborne on their initial strike on the frog. They just rocket up from their hide with no f's given. The crackheads of predator fish, always a thrill. Thanks for showcasing these very beautiful and fun invasive fish!
Shits been stressful but we all get through it ... Going piking in the afternoon to study good n get good diner bites... Saying this cuz I ain't been out few weeks 😅😢😢😢😢
Nice pike Jon, they were hitting most everything. Great fishing when it is like that, I usually go fishing with my brother once a year in northern Ontario. Great pike fishing, pickerel, & trout. Really enjoy those trips, as I live in Nova Scotia, great fishing here as well. Thanks for the great content. Be safe!
Native North Dakotan here. Happy to see you fishing for some northern. It would be cool to see you come and fish for some big Musky out in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
Awesome video Jon and that is a beautiful place i am going Muskie fishing 🎣 tomorrow in Northwest Pennsylvania with my 10 w fly rod enjoy all of your videos
Pike are such an underrated fish to catch. Im a huge fan of fishing for them. Caught a 58" last year from the bank of lake erie on the canada side. Was an absolute amazing fight and fish.
@illmuskyhunter3313 funny part is it's all on video and RUclips. Was 29lb6oz and 58" all shown on video and used a black and blue jackhammer caught at long point ontario. But it's ok you don't believe and try to discredit me, truly doesn't affected in amny way but living life with jealousy and hate isn't the best way to go about things. But whatever makes you happy.
Pike are under rated for eating too! I rank it above walleye for freshwater fish to eat. Knowing how to clean it is key! I don't mind the Y bones and leave them n but it isn't hard to trim them out. But to many do not get all the slime off the fillets and that is why they say pike tastes bad! I fold the filet in half the long way and scrub it against itself under running water, flip and do the other side. Removes all the slime and gets a lot of blood out. Salt pepper, flour, pan fry... good eats!
@@tylernorum2702 I don't like to post channel on others but seeing as how I'm not posting really anymore it's fishingwithmb and video is caught massive pike.
Love the vids Jon, great content as always! But please, as an avid pike angler do not net pike when the trebles are on the outside of their mouth. They absolutely tear their jaw to bits when they turn in the net.
More like porno stash, or the ole '' this town ain't big enough for the 2 of us'' looking stash😅 sheriff Jon Brolin 😆 looked like he's taking bank robbers for dead or alive haha..... Such a good mfkn dude
I fish musky out of a kayak all summer and switch to a canoe come fall and early spring and I gotta say there ain't much like it! If your ever in the kawartha lakes Ontario reach out for some back lake musky
Hey Jon, love your videos and your love of fishing. I am in Birmingham Alabama but I am coming to Skowhegan Maine for the month of February on a work assignment. But I will have time off. Are there any fishing opportunities available at all in February in Maine? I'm guessing there are no guides that take you out on the ice. Lol.
Did a lot of pike fishing from a canoe... good eating critters too! FINALLY! A Googan learned how to handle a pike by sliding up under the jaw! Pike spaz... I was releasing one and it turned on me and BIT ME, I still have a scar on my finger from 50 years ago!
Here in the U.K. and Europe we all use mono or flouro of 1mm diameter, usually crimped with barrel crimps with heavy duty clips. Anything less and you can get bit off on the hook set. I use 80 pound braid as my main line but mainly so I can straighten hooks out so I don’t lose my expensive lures
Please don't do this, it injures and can blind them. Slide your fingers up under the gill plate to the jaw like Jon was doing. It makes them docile until the release, then get your fingers clear fast! Speaking form experience, one spazzed and bit me, still have that scar 50 years later!
Literally just got my Old Town Auto Pilot last week and am heading out tomorrow to the Connecticut river tomorrow for pike. Hope I catch this many! Great vid!!!
YES! Pike are very good eating but must be cleaned right! To many fail to wash the slime off the filet and that makes for a really fishy nasty flavor. Fold the filet in half the long way and scrub it against itself under running water. Flip over and repeat, then into a clean bowl or bag! Do not put it back on the cleaning board or it will get slimed again. Some cut the Y bones out... I know where they are and just pick them out while eating. Season some flour with salt and pepper to taste, heat some oil and butter in a skillet(about 1/2 inch deep). Flour the fish and straight into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown each side and the fish flakes apart. I have been know to eat a pound of pike cooked this way... it is better than walleye in my book!
Not complaining but aren't you supposed to keep or clonk invasive fish? That would have been an epic fish fry. Bring the whole Googan squad for a fall derby and fish fry competition!
Thank you for not ruining the content during the intro! I hate the current trend of showing all the highs before the video really starts

Great entertaining content. Sorry to have to ask this question. Why are you releasing invasive fish back into the river?

Jon B up here in the north in Canada to stop those pike from spazzing out grab them by the eyes and it paralyzes them catch a lot of those up here
