Wow, can't wait to get into this video today. Massive Guy J fan. Really pleased to have found you and your channel. You are definitely making music in the style that I love. Subscribed! Thanks!
Something I've noticed which people tend to downplay and which you've emphasized on in this tutorial. Those accented layers might seem subtle but they add a lot of value to the layer they're being put on top of. This not only makes it more groovy but makes the layer feel more complete.
@@DowdenProductionAcademy sorry, one question: do you tune all your percussions to the root note of the key or try out different notes of the key that your track is in?
@@syedbukhari6578 No worries at all! It depends on the tonal weight of the drums. Usually hats don't need too much tuning, if at all. But sometimes they do! I usually pitch every drum up or down a few semi-tones to see if they fit better. Simple answer - Yes, tune your drums to the root note or in a scale that works most of the time to ensure they sit well in your music :)
You really nailed the drums/percussion - sounds a lot like Guy! Maybe for your next video you could cover Cid Inc or Dmitry Molosh? Also! Saw another guy's comment about the project link being broken, and I get the same error. Takes me to a page that says Page Not Found/404 error.

Your speaking voice during this tutorial video is at least twice as loud as the music {maybe more} and all of your early chapters are barely audible except your voice. I don't want to complain but it is quite drastic. Nice post and track. Great work.
Hey Dowden, Great tutorial !!! , would be great to see one for Brian Cid -style, have been asking about it from lot of guys who does similar tutorial videos, but they either never respond or respond but doesn't go for it :D

Thanks for doing this, love guy j’s productions! How come you layer hats and everything rather than finding one right sample from the start? For example you took 2 rich hat sounds and filtered the richness out. Why not just do it with noise or find 1 sample that fits? I’m a novice mate so forgive my ignorance!
No problem at all! Even though I EQ out some of the sound, I still felt that it added depth to the track. Even layering and removing some of the information can and usually still does at more to the sound since the sounds are definitely different, even if it's slightly!
This is fantastic. Quick question.. Is there a way of purchasing this template with a one off fee? i have so many subscriptions its unbelivable. Would be great to purchase your templates direct from your site, just a thought.. Keep up the great work my friend :)
i swear i keep having so much trouble just creating a base line like this. i always thought it was just a sub base then a higher base then thats it base line done.but its so much more then that its all very layered. is there a simple way to create a sub base like this on serum ?
I recommend keeping your sub bass separate from your higher bass layers so you have more control over it. But just use a sawtooth wave with a low octave and filter out the sub and high end
Thanks! I usually spend anywhere from 4-10 hours on each of these tracks. I usually write for a few hours, get it to a point where it is close, then take a day or two break, then come back and spend an hour or two over the next few days. Depends how difficult the genre/style is :)
@@DowdenProductionAcademy it's very nice track. I wonder if you've done something with the lead in the final version.
