- An overview of the functionality and limitations of DUAL SIM CARD CELLPHONES as quickly as possible.
I just bought the BLU LIFE ONE X phone (which is a great budget phone in my opinion) and was excited to try out the Dual SIM Dual Active phone capabilities. I was surprised by the seamless integration of using dual SIMs in the user interface but was also disappointed by the hardware limitations that you'll find in most dual SIM phones today.
The BLU Life One X (2016) Dual SIM Dual Active phone (3G/LTE + 2G) is available from Amazon:

The Honor 5X is the only Dual SIM LTE I have ever come across and it's only been out for 6 months. It also looks like Dual Sim Active Dual Data 3g or above is only compatible on 5.1 Lollipop or above. And I was also not able to find another phone available in the US that's does this. Thanks for the good explanation!
Cool. I looked into the Honor 5X but all I'm reading is that it is another switchable LTE/2g dual sim phone. Do you have any more information on it supporting dual LTE at the same time?
+David Zhang No, I don't know of any other phone at the time, but I will continue to look into it.
Also worth noting that you can only send SMS texts over a 2G antenna. No MMS.
IOW if you choose to use Sim 1 for data & Sim 2 for texts/calls, Sim 2 will not support photo texts through MMS.
YMMV but this inconvenience outweighed the benefit of Dual Active. I'm going Dual Standby on my next phone. I'm apprehensive about how it might handle texting. Was hoping to find some more info on this but there's surprisingly little practical info about this stuff works online. This was one of the more informative videos, so thanks for posting it.
So how does it work for in-coming phone calls? If you're on the default, will you receive calls from the secondary?
Really, really, really well done video - wish they were all as well done.
The USA seems to be way behind Europe in the Dual-Sim phones. The Dual-Sim phones in Europe are much more popular and much better in Europe.
Great argument. Congratulations.
Petropavlovsk Kamchatskiy Let him go back to his safe place.
Not in the UK - there aren't much support for dual sim
Good explanation. Your voice is very relaxing by the way. Have you ever heard of ASMR videos?
Thanks! I've heard of it. But it's funny that people find my voice relaxing. But I guess no one really likes the sound of their own voice. :)
David Zhang Yeah it's true. Having ASMR to your own voice would be odd (or being relaxed by your own voice while you're actually just judging yourself the whole time).
@@Abstersroxx Have YOU ever heard of getting a life?
Great video/information.
Is there an up to date list of domestic (US) dual sim phones that at the least support dual standby? From the research I've done, it appears none of the US motorola phones are dual sim.
My phone has a brass
Cage that shuts after you put #2 SIM in you
Shut it. It has a set of
Long arm's that are fitted at top I need to
Observe how it's assembled.?? Thank you.
I was so confused thx for clearing this up

Good video. Great comments. I got messed up when h2o stopped supporting 2g at the end of 2016. Until that time, I could get calls on either sim and both signals were active. I have yet to find a dual-sim LTE phone, hope they come out with one!
thanks man. important stuff but the companies won't tell the sellers who have thus often no clue about such things.
keep it up. all the best..
np!
And these confusions are exactly why many people are still using two phones. I just found out that my Galaxy S7 is capable (I called Samsung to make sure), but I still have no answers about how well it is going to work in NYC.
I understand now why I have 2 lines in the US and in India but not in Australia. Thank you
Unfortunately I got a BLU Studio XL 2 and doesn't allows to use both sim cards at the same time, just one by enabling it, the other keeps unused with no signal.
The HP Elite x3 uses both of my sims at the same time. One being my work AT&T and the other my personal unlimited Cricket wireless. I push the data to my Cricket sim and voice still works for both, so it's a true dual sim. Only downside with this phone is its a windows based phone and it's a huge 6 inch screen but I've definitely stopped getting nasty emails from my company about using to much data.
nice video bro
yo what about smart watches that have sim card slots? do you have to buy another sim card for it in order to receive txt msg notifications or what?
This story is for the primary user... but how to split-up if we use a secondary user also ?
I don't make much calls... Phone specs says it works on 2 carriers (ATT, T-mobile)
Will these carriers offer "pay as you go" plan for this phone?
Great explanation. I was searching the net trying to figure out why my voice service was cut off once I made my second sim active for data! Frustrating. So does this mean that my data SIM will have to be turned off until I turn it on again which in turn will disable my calls/sms?
If you have a dual 3g/2g active sim phone like the one I have then yes. It sounds like you will need to manually choose which sim gets access to the 3g+ antenna. If you have a dual 3g standby sim phone (such as the Xiaomi5) the phone will automatic shutdown the other sim the moment you start using data or calls.
I have a question, I'm getting h990n, dual SIM lg V20, and so I have TMobile, and freedom Pop, 99% of the time I will be using TMobile for data, but the times I need att, will I be able to switch to freedom Pop (att) with LTE and T-Mobile SIM still in the phone? And switch back to TMobile LTE with out having to switch sim slots?
Do you know which dual function the new samsung note 7 has, i think the versions released in around Asia and Emirates have dual sim.
if you get a call and have both active will you know what number they are calling for?
thanks, this explains why i cannot use my dual sim capability on the blu life one x2 anymore. AT&T shut down 2g service on December 31st. Now the main reason for buying this phone is useless
I'm using a Blu Vivo XL in Canada and I could not find an explanation for my dual sim card issue anywhere! Thank you for explaining this -- not even customer support could help me. I'll be returning my phone. It's a great phone, but I bought it specifically for the dual sim functionality. Not too happy to find out it doesn't actually work on my networks (Bell/Telus) :-/.
Yeah it's quite confusing. If you're looking for another dual sim phone that would work with your networks you can look at the list here of dual 3g "standby" phones. whirlpool.net.au/wiki/dual_sim_4g3g_phones
Is there a list for the USA ?
Hey. If you have 2 sim cars in phone, if someone cals you on your 1st sim you can answer, and if someone cals you on 2nd sim you can also answers without switching anything. And do you know on which phone number does this person cals?
Good vid bud.. keep investigating
Hi David, I have a BLU Life X One. My question: I am currently using H20 wireless and will be changing to AT&T because they have a Mexico plan and heading down soon. Can I use both sim cards and keep one cell phone number or do I have to have 2 separate numbers? Can I use an H20 sim card with all my data and put in an At&T in the other slot and will the data on the H20 still transfer over if I am no longer using them? I am not sure that this is clear but my concern is I don't want to loose the data on my H20 sim card by changing to AT&T. Obviously I am not too tech savy. Thanks. Cheri
Each sim will have it's own number. A dual phone doesn't actually merge the two sims together. It more like you're taking two cellphones and gluing them together so you only have to carry one device.
Thanks David. This was helpful.
But what about watsapp? Will it work with both numbers?
I just want to clarify:
If I want to use 1 sim card strictly for calls and the other strictly for data at the same time, would I need a Dual-Active phone?
Yes. As far as I'm aware the limitation of a dual standby phone is that if you are on a call, your data sim would stop temporarily, and vice versa. But also be aware that on 2g/3g dual active phones like mine, the sim for calling needs to support 2g, and the data sim will use 3g+
What and receiving calls and text? how does that work
Can u only have one Sim in the phone and it will operate the same????
yes it will work normally with just one sim in the phone. you'll still see the options for the 2nd sim and no signal for the second sim but it will still operate like a normal single sim phone.
I've had a Samsung Luna (which is dual SIM)for about 6 months and I didn't even realize there was such a thing let alone knowing that I have one! It's weird because I have 4 different measurements of how much signal I have, and my phone contacts all have each person listed twice...I just thought it was the stupid phone doing crazy stuff to me!! Wow! You literally DO learn something new everyday! Thanks for reassuring me that I am not going crazy....at least not tonight!😆
The end of the video made me very depressed..
Probably a stupid question... am i able to take a iPhone sim and put it in a blu and work fine?
If the Blu phone is unlocked, then yes..
What kind of dual phone would someone need to have both Verizon and ATT service?
Gregory Campbell I believe Verizon do not use SIM. They are using CDMA technology.
is the lg g6 a good 2 sim phone?
does dual sim phone consumes more battery as compared to single sim phone??
If both sims are active, yes it will draw a little more power. But it's not a huge reduction. Extra power draw depends on the type of dual sim (dual active, dual standby, etc)
thanku😊
I don't have a Sim card on my BLU phone but I have a phone number I use the magic jack app try it out it also let's me have Instagram and what's app but press the call so they will call to tell u the 6 digit code for people who don't have sim cards on there phone BTW its all free since it works on Internet
I got a studio 7.0 and my sim card says no sim card plugged in
If you only have one sim inserted in a dual sim phone. It will always say the signal from the first sim and the second, which in this case would be no signal/sim. If you're having problems with your phone not detecting the sim at all in both slots then maybe the sim is inserted incorrectly. otherwise I'm unsure of the problem.
nice video!
Yes I had the same problem with my Blu Life XL when AT&T dropped its 2G service...making my dual sim phone a SINGLE Sim phone. Great Phone otherwise
I can not figure out how to put the micro sim into my advance 4.0 blu phone!!!!
+Daniece tate I think the Blu Advance 4.0 takes full sized SIMs, not micro sims. So you'll either need an adapter or just carefully placing the sim in the correct spot.
oh okay thank you so much
@@HelloDavid l just new phone my no no sim is not fit or work according to front screen so u r saying l need different sim card?
Not what I wanted to know, lol. thanks
+Matthew Millner lol. okay.
Can you use a single sim on thesse
yes you can
My Phone is the Huawei p8 Lite. it has access to duel sim card for any interested.
Straight to fucking point like a boss. Good stuff not like those bullshit youtubers.
blu life one x good performance???
+Keytech Blu For everyday performance it is quite snappy and responsive. It will have the irregular hiccup/slowdown/unresponsiveness but it doesn't happen too often and quickly goes back to normal. Overall pretty good given its price.
will this work for lycamobile
+Jimmy Son lycamobile is a virtual network operator, which means they just piggyback on a network so it will depend on the country you are using the phone and whether that network has 2G in your area. For example if you were in USA with a lycamobile sim, you would be on the T-mobile network that does support 2G in certain regions.
+David Zhang yeah I'm California and yeah Lyca mobile does use T-Mobile towe
+David Zhang so it should work in the USA right ?
+Jimmy Son Yeah it should work.
no lte, but moto g2 dual sim
what about whatsapp?
Whatsapp will only allow you to have access to one number/account. Even on dual sim phones.
so when u switch it switches with the sim?
No. Whatapps accounts are activated through an initial phonecall or text message activation. Once an account is activated on your phone it stays activated until you manually delete or disable it. You can remove or switch sims and whatsapp will remain activated to the original number. Whatsapp doesn't actually care what sim/phone# you have on your phone, you just need to have access to it (even on another phone) to get the initial activation code to prove you own the number.
David Zhang
thats good to know.
Hamare pass bhi yeh phone hai
Hmmmmm ? Suspicious sound like slivikishow ?🤔🤔
good
Nice
I've always wondered how dual sim phones worked, not how i expected.
+Rydex5 I was surprised as well. Too bad I can't take advantage of it.
just buy two phones.
Here is the link for dual sim 3g/4g phone list.
nice video bro
+Lindar Hoxha Thanks man!
