This is definitely a winner. It is another entirely forgotten gem, but the pacing, the acting, the chemistry, the story, the setting, the concept--all were winners in my book. I was so engrossed and loved seeing this repeatedly for a number of years. It still feels recent, but it is totally forgotten now. Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas would prove their magic chemistry again in Jewel of the Nile and War of the Roses...Interestingly, the sequel seemed to be a less effective installment. I'm not sure why. But the failure of that film to catch led the two of them to go in the direction of the unrelated War of the Roses, but I was really hoping for at least a third film to create a trilogy. And conceptually, if the characters had been written properly, there was room for continued chapters given his swashbucking ways and her nod to being a creative 'everywoman.' I'm not sure it could have survived longer than a run of five films, perhaps, but showing the growth of both characters over a decade or more was really possible--if only the right scripts were constructed. But that is the writer in me. What a wonderful film! Thanks for sharing, Doug!

@@diviningdragon I adore this movie, pretty much for every reason you mentioned. I absolutely love Alan Silvestri's soundtrack ( this and Back to the Future are 2 favourites). It was unfairly labelled a Raiders rip off, but was in development prior to Indiana Jones. It certainly rode the crest of a wave , Indiana Jones was at his peak. The chemistry between Douglas and Turner was very real and she is drop dead gorgeous. Unfortunately time hasn't been kind to her, with health issues, but here she is at her absolute peak. Danny DeVito as always is fun to watch. I don't think Jewel of the Nile quite recaptures the magic but it makes for a fabulous double bill ( I own the 2 Movie DVD). My Die Hard 5 Movie Blu-ray has just arrived so I'm sorted for today 1-4 at least 👍

I admit Michael Douglas wasn't my idea of a swashbuckling leading man at the time but he stepped up and delivered...it was Danny devito that made me buy a ticket..the follow up "jewel of the Nile" was rubbish and that's being kind!!!.❤️🇬🇧
