After scrolling and changing my wording on my searches and just hours of frustrating tutorials on 1,000 ways to not do what I'm looking to do, you made the exact video I needed. Quick, professional, clear, and showed every step without over explaining. Thank you so much man.
Thank you for the video! Quick, simple, straight to the point. I was also a bit overwhelmed by the different sound recording software, and I love the easier layout of Reaper. Cheers!
this was some good suggestions. im new to this music producing and also have bought the EAD10. havent quite figured how to mix it properly, this helped alot. one thing i learned from a friend was to mix the drums to the way you wanted it to sound straight from recording before adding more effects. I do that by using an EQ to eliminate sounds in the drummix that is hard on the ear. then i add another EQ like you do. i didnt really understand the compressor completely until i saw this video, so thanks again :)
Personally , I wouldn’t bother adding mics to the mix as it would be out of phase with the EAD, you’re better off buying extra triggers and plugging them into the brain of the EAD. I think they are around £60 each. A snare trigger would be the only worthy upgrade, you wouldn’t really need anymore than that. Don’t be afraid to mess around with tunings on your drums some sound better than others once they’ve been through the EAD. But yes , the EQ and compressor is just a light sprinkling on the top to give it that little bit extra , you have to be pretty happy with how they said pre Fx, thanks for checking out the video any questions I’m more than happy to help 🤙🏻
What type of cable are you using to connect the ead to the laptop? I currently am using a guitar cable from the mono out going into an interface. Then the interface to the laptop. But I’d love to be able to record in stereo.
You can use USB Type B cable, it is also use for printer. I suggest you buy USB Type B with USB Type C end so you do not need additional dongle to connect to a mac
Wasn’t the Yamaha ead10 design so a drum cover video could be easily be recorded and editing done directly on the module itself? Is there a particular reason why you run it again through music editing software like Reaper or Audacity? Could you not get the quality cover you were looking for using only the device and the rec-and share app only? Although you do have plus of different camera angles the way you are recording but it still requires syncing for the finished product. I’ve been playing around for quite some time with the idea of buying an EAD 10 with the ease of making a quality cover but if I still need to do all the editing I’m not so sure I still want one. I would appreciate your input. Thanks,
You can do it through the Rec and share but you’ll never get the same quality as putting it into a DAW. I do it because it gives me more freedom... I use the ead for the mic quality and ease of use. so one input into my laptop instead of 8 mics into a interface and then into my laptop. Which you have to individually mix and play around with. I think it’s super easy to just plug the ead into a daw throw your song into the daw as well hit record and your done. Just ease of use. Ead is one input, one channel super easy. Hope that makes sense. The Rec and Share app is ok... but like I said you’ll never get the video quality and extra stuff you do in a daw. Considering it’s only £400 and a full set up of mics that would give you close to same quality of sound would be about £800 id say it’s a good buy. Don’t forget as well using individual mics they only pick up what’s there. Ead can manipulate a snare to sound like a kick drum if you wanted.
I just throw the song into the daw and hit record it’s up to my playing if I’m in time with it. Once I’ve got a good recording that I’m happy with I add some compressor/EQ (if needed) and save it as a MP3. Then I go into Final Cut Pro video editing put my two camera angles in and the audio and line them up, it’s fairly easy to line them up because you have waves on each clip so when I strike the snare drum for example it peaks high and I can line all three up with the same bit. If I’m struggling to do it that way I use the count in I do at the start of every video. So I hit my sticks together and count to 4. Which is an easy audio line up becsuse of the wave peaks there’s just 4 single lines where the sticks hit together. So all I have to do is line up all three clips. Remove the sound off the video clips and good to go! Once I’ve got them lined up I delete the click in at the start. Hope that helps!!
Im having an issue where I hear the effects from the module in my headphones, but I dont hear on logic pro when are I start recording the ead10. Has anyone run into something like this?
I’m curious about this too, since the ead has trigger inputs, will it also output them to midi in your daw, so you can blend the ead audio with something like ezdrummer?
Fellow EAD10 user here. I use rec n share for all my recording, if I connect my USB straight to a laptop how do you sync your video - loving the different camera angles in the videos.
I’m not to sure how it would work with the rec n share as I havnt personally used it. When I record, I record into a daw from the EAD module to the laptop then when I’m ready to record its a case of hitting record in the DAW then hitting record on the cameras, Then I match them up in editing.
Harry Spike Munro thanks, I’ll have a play. I recommend the app for a quick filming as it does everything (you can look at the latest video on my channel as an example of the app output), but like the option of using different cameras to mix up the video a bit.
@@harryjohnson8617 the recnshare i awsome, but i dont think there is a lot of choices to mix the audio. but its great for fast recordings. i use it while practicing to see how im playing. i have 4 drumcovers on my page. the last one is mixed in reaper, the other ones are straight from the recnshare app. u can hear a big difference in sound imo :)
Do I need to download a driver for the PC to recognize the ead 10? I just connected the usb cable, and the ead doesn't appear as a device. Just like midi, and still no sound comes out.

Reaper sounds a lot easier and better however doesn’t explain how I can put that altogether with footage?
Also another question. This one is about the songs that you choose to make drum covers, do you play over the original drums from the song or get the drumless track? If the case is the first one, do you know how to reduce the volume from the original drums without loosing too much from the rest of the instruments? I don't know if that would be possible but if it is, could you make a video explaining it? Greetings from Ecuador

How does the guitar bleed on the EAD10 impact your final recording and do you have to compensate for it in post processing at all? Regardless, thanks man! Great videos!
Thanks for the vid, answers a few questions but I have a few more. The stereo channels are for the mics built into the bass drum mic/trigger unit correct? If you end up splitting the other inputs I understand you can end up with 6 total triggers. Will the EAD also send the midi along side your stereo mic recordings so that you can run it through SD3 after the fact ??
@@harryspikemunro6174 Great, thanks for the information. I think adding more mics woukd take away why I'm interested in the EAD. I tried the mics and I've got the toms bleeding into the overhead and vice versa. Maybe play around in the futute with that once I get the EAD down. Thanks again!
