Boklahoma. THis was so much fun! Looking forward to do another "Hot Takes" Episode in the future
it was a blast dude, round 2 coming soon
BTW, I think the Chase Reeves-Pakt “collab” was what collabs should be. That then allowed Pakt to grow its business even more.
as opposed to Carryology?
26:11 tell Bo that I think that when you ride motorcycles for so long it changes the way you think you think about gear, not just moto gear and Xpac has some of the best water protection, next to say something like a bag smothered in TPU and looking like a zodiac boat… I love Xpac, I also love waxed canvas and a bunch of other materials. But knowing the right one for the job is key…
36:21 with the second Carryology / EverGoods collab the Phoenix II was the CTB 26 was a bag that did not exist before the collab. And was made in the regular version only after they got so many requests for it. And all the Mystery Ranch collabs (3) with a 4th coming in fall have all been discounted bags from M.R. That have a cult following, most of the time its harder to get your hands on one of the original bags lol. 39:47 The first Bellroy collab I believe broke the site it sold out very fast… and the Chimera II (everyone is saying a sling) is coming out soon this week is the Mission Workshop/ Carryology mars project… if you go to the pinned admin post on classifieds you can see a release calendar. It does not have all this years collabs on it but it has a lot.
40:40 Mystery Ranch did a collab with Dior for $4000 for the back pack… there is also a sling and hip/leg bag

Boklahoma!! Good conversation but you all should do a pod on what bags you would use for travel for 1-2 days, 4-7 days and for 2 weeks.
great suggestion!
I personally like the look of X-Pac. The diamond structure was what drew my interest first. It has a futuristic vibe to me and looks distinct from the usual bagback fabrics. Boklahoma!
😂
Idea for future - “girls” perspective on build, what brands could be doing better/ different for other parts of the carry community, etc. would be great to see some other creators from this perspective, thank you! Really enjoying the series.
great rec!
Waxed canvas hot take hit my soul !!! Haha I still love it though
its a pretentious fabric... and I love it too!
There’s a big difference between conception made somewhere , built somewhere or just assembled somewhere . It’s a hot take about facing contradictions
19:44 warranty is about ethic and makes an extra confidence to the brand . And peak design is one of the best brand for this point . They had a design flaws in one of their bag and sent me a bag with the new design that fixed the defect in design. Take another brand like nanuk that offers lifetime warranty without any proof of purchase you just fill a form and notice them that you are a nanuk user . It’s that simple .
And I agree with Bo , it’s important that brands can provide more spare parts and also that we’d have repartir or tailored like places for bags . There’s in france a sneaker clinic where you can build your frankenshoe
I agree about repair centres! It would be great for bags and other gear you own
extremely unlikely, but hey, dare to dream!
Boklahoma!!! Great content keep it up!!!
🤠
To be mentioned by Bo Ismono on a Nomad’s Nation podcast… what a time to be alive.
If you’re having hot takes pr 2 about x-pac - i gotta be there.
About your takes:
- warranty is crucial especially on 100$+ soft goods.
- i do not like xpac and would choose waxed canvas any day.
- collabs and limited editions are awesome. I have, if you both remember, carryology collab bellroy tech pouch and it’s beautiful.
- bellroy is not boring imo but they take quirkiness too far sometimes. They’re (eol) Apex was way off price imo but they’re trying new things.
One of your Next hot takes: evergoods, able carry and goruck are not cult worthy.
I feel at this point there will be an xpac mob against me😳
Hot Takes #2 with AV potentially coming soon haha
B'okhlahoma. Team x-pac.
1 = water resistant
2 = rip resistant
3 = durable
4 = different varieties (vx 21, x42, x50, rx30, etc). I have no idea what these numbers means but it's interesting.
5 = wide range of colours. The vx21 coyote brown is growing on me massively. I am already saving for Able Carry Daily Plus and Evergoods CAP2 in coyote brown colour.
Massive shout out to Alpaka. For me, they are probably at the forefront of releasing so many products in various different form of x pac fabric.
solid points all around, and yet it's still a bit overrated ;)
53:53 you nailed it BOklahoma ! I guess it’s a state of mind that every designer should do from product design to softwares
I absolutely love the Evergoods Carryology Griffin Colab. The waxed canvas CPL 24 feels like it was designed for me. I absolutely love it.
I have the Griffin CAP2 - love it as well
One of the better carryology collabs in my opinion was the evergoods phoenix 2 ctb 26. It introduced a brand new bag and was actually a useful bag for edc and travel not just a bag to hang on the wall.
yea the CTB26 is pretty well loved in the carry community
Great episode! Love hearing the questions that we know are on peoples minds regarding collaborations (FOMO, cash grabs). Boklahoma! 🤠
🤠
The collabs are collectors pieces, and are so expensive and sold out they are really out of reach. I do see with brands like Evergoods now producing product lines (Ecopak) that were seemingly trickled down from previous collabs. Same with GR dynema.
yup, they are collector's pieces for sure
Hey @Youknowthebo, can you share the European stores besides Keus and Mukama? I live in Switzerland and I know a few more but I was wondering if you could share some more stores :) Thanks!!
Freitag is a German Backpack brand, it’s from Hamburg
🇩🇪
Evergoods Griffin Carrology collab still have some TD35’s left
Not too surprising it’s the last one to sell out
You forgot Deuter as a German Brand - not my fav for backpacks but I think you can buy them all over the world ;-) Further Ortlieb is also from Germany, more known in the biking community. And Rimowa is also a German Brand, pretty cheap tho haha :D (Booooooklahooooooma ;-) )
good call!
Boklahoma! I’d love to see you two do hot takes about water bottle holders. Thanks for the info and entertainment!
good suggestion!
35:40 wish that carryology could release different batches from collaborations like LOM does for microphones (fantastic mics but very small batches that comes maybe only once a year and are sold out in the diet 5 minutes )
Oklahoma. I hope this podcast continues and adding new people like Avi I hope to see him again
he'll be back for sure 💪
Hey guys, awesome podcast as always! Let's dive into some carryology talk. So, the Evergoods Griffin duffel is still up for grabs, which didn’t sell out. However, gotta admit, wasn't too keen on the CPL24 - that wax canvas just didn't sit right with me. Looked kinda cheap, especially up close and personal. Compared to the likes of Goruck or Filson, it just didn't hold up. But hey, each to their own, right? Personally, I'm all about that waxed canvas and X-PAC life, love the variety they offer.
You know who'd be a killer guest for the show? JB from JB Outside. That guy's practically a professional traveler, being a pilot and all. His real-world bag experiences and unique packing hacks would be gold for your listeners, especially those looking to master the art of weekend travel with smaller bags. Plus, JB could shed some light on the whole waxed canvas deal - the smell, the mold, the works. Would definitely add some valuable insight to the mix.
I’d love to get JB on! Only problem is the 13 hour time difference with me being in Hong Kong, so that’s why I usually stick to guests who are in a more suitable time zone
If a $400 bag breaks, I’m using the warranty. I’ve had good experiences with the GoRuck Scars repairs and with Mission Workshop. Living out of the US would make it more difficult, but living here I value a good warranty very high as part of the choice of bags I get.
great call
Bagjack is a german brand, making pretty darn good bags at that. Handmade in Berlin
i'll check em out!
My waxed canvas Fjallraven Raven 28 is still one of best value-for-the-money backpacks.
great pick
I like xpac but I’m sick of the orange interior! Great podcast as usual!
yea that combo is getting a bit... old
Commenting for the algorithm!! Let’s goooo!!
appreciated!
Would love to see Tom from Pack Hacker on the podcast soon!
hopefully soon!
Or Lauren to add some girl power to this awesome podcast.
@@christofheimhilcher1619 which channel is Lauren from?
@@Nomads.Nation Packhacker
@@Nomads.Nation lauren from packhacker too!
Agree that collabs are too expensive.
My Hot Take for your next round: Content Creators shifted their focus from travelers to bag collectors as their main audience. Which shows in many ways: 1. more EDCs and Slings less Travel Packs and DOPP Kits. Collectors might justify buying another EDC sized bag which they use 365 days a year more easily than buying another travel pack which they use 3 weeks a year. 2. Not many Content Creators review budget friendly options like the Decathlon Quechua NH series (the NH 500 seems to be the most recommended bag on reddit), Travelite or Amazon Basics. Those are totally uninteresting for collectors but for travelers who might prefer to spend more money on their travels than on yet another high priced bag they are attractive. 3. Aesthetically less appealing bags or bags with a more outdoorsy vibe like the Ospreys get covered less often than in earlier days. Boklahoma!
1. agreed, plus EDC is just more interesting to me now. 2. yup, we are working on doing more budget bag reviews (check our last 10 videos, at least 3-4 budget bags in the mix). 3. For sure! Bags are getting more beautiful and in demand, so I like to give the people what they want and review the popular ones as often as possible!
Bo’Klahoma!!! Yess
😂
I look forward to the Boklahoma. My concern with collabs is not the cash-grab aspect. As long as I still trust the reviewer to be honest, why not collaborate and bring your dream version to life.
yea I like them myself, makes the industry more fun
I’m tried to claim a bellroy warranty on wallet and they just said it was normal. I disagreed, but oh well.
yea, warranties are... weird
Boklahoma! Great stuff once again 😂👌
cheers 🤠
That Oklahoma story is hilarious
right! haha
American bags are great , there’s an obvious know how .
Do you consider Fyro an American brand ?
we're like pitbull, mr worldwide 😎
but probably a US/Hong Kong hybrid brand tbh
Bokloma baby!!
the legend himself
14:29 the bellroy sacoche lite was the worst designed and overpriced gear they released . True that bellroy is not constant in the quality in their line up
yea, def not my fav
Well, I like Bellroy- I am mainstream - I know no one who carries goruch… I enjoy reviewers…pack hackers..I get to buy the best bag that suit my needs… I bought Chase Reeves Pakt bag collaboration… it’s worth every penny for an « everyday day » person !
thanks for supporting this amazing community :)
I have to hem all my pants lol, I’m like mostly upper body.
💪
Boklahoma. However, I have not listened all the way through every one of the Podcasts.
one day you will, I can feel it
It would be cool if the podcast will be live😶
maybe one day!
I have to say Carryology collabs products are stylish but not user-friendly. (for me)
I got 2 collabs bags, one a evergoods CPL24 Phoenix 1 and mystery ranch unicorn 2.0,
they looks very cool and using nice material but when you are using the bag, you will found some small details are not good as the original.
Like the zipper are not smooth, the compartment not functional as the original one etc. etc.
I don't know collabs bags QC Team will working with the original company or not, but some one you got the bag, you will get what i say.
If just for a hobby to collect those bag, is totally cool.
For everyday use, good luck=]
Evergoods Griffing Series buyers would like to have a word with you... ;)
@@Nomads.Nation I have no luck with collabs bags, sad man=[
Boklahoma!
🤠
Collab is over rated mate. Why piggy back when you can pull the rein & ride the journey solo, just like Zorro..! Great podcast as always.

the big reason I try to buy american when i can has nothing to do with patriotism, and honestly has little to do even with quality-- it has to do with labor laws. Now, obviously America lags SEVERELY behind places like Germany, but compared to most manufacturing centers, it's just easier to feel confident that the product wasn't made with *severe* exploitation. Of course, I can't always buy american, in part because of the price, and of course, not all products developed overseas are relying on ultra-cheap later.
[oklahoma]
Well said!
I agree that Bellroy is not an exceptional bag…definitely not worth their price.
I agree with a few bags by them, but the majority are worth it imo
BOklahoma Bo!!!
🤠
Boklahomaaa

booklahoma 🤣
the legend himself haha
Relative to the total time in this episode, way to much time spent on 4 collabs topics variants, which as a % of worldwide bag sales is small.
If you want to submit a talking points proposal and suggested time for discussing each topic for our next podcast, please do so below lol

Carryology 👎👎
they are def controversial
@youknowthebo - TEAM X-PAC!! Actually there are several reasons for me - one is that cordura just gives me the 90's jansport vibe, which I want to escape. It's super practical and a great fabric practically speaking, but in some ways I'm looking for more innovation in fabric. And for me, that is part of what makes x-pac 'attractive' even if it's not the surface itself such as a heritage fabric (you can guess that I don't have any heritage packs and no plans to purchase). I like the modern aesthetic of the simple x-pac as well as the properties and am willing to get packs with it even if it doesn't last quite as long as cordura.
On collabs by reviewers, I think the branding gets really muddy quickly. And I like buying packs from companies with clear / strong brands that align with my priorities and values (think about patagonia brand as example). Unfortunately, PH for example as a brand would take away from, not add to, a pack brand (is my bag 'hacked?', the logo isn't really nice (nor the name, for a bag brand), and while I greatly respect the PH reviewers (for example), I don't think they are strong enough as 'brand ambassadors' to put that foot forward in the same way. That's why all of the brand companies spend what they do on models, endorsements, media, photography, etc that really captures the brand image correctly. I'd much prefer that PH, for example, monetize their knowledge and skills with a bag company as a consultant or advisor; but if the companies have full-time product people, they are already paying for that. It's tricky for sure but there's something to be said for staying in a lane and building the reviewer brand as that. Ebags pulled it off but it was really about creating a value brand (cost effective), not monetizing the reviewer (or seller in ebags case) brand. So to create a more expensive collab product that IMO waters down the bag brand is a bit conflicted (?). Maybe the reviewer needs an overwhelming # of subscribers to add value in a collab (MKBHD or PMK, although the latter is a complete no-go for me). Worthy of more discussion.
great takes, thanks for your comment!
Pack Hacker should do collabs. I remember a youtuber did best backpack edc channels and didn't even mention pack hacker. Unsubbed immediately 😊
I agree, hoping they start
Oklahoma 😂
