Monthly self portrait in the bag. ALSO I DID NOT SMUDGE THE LEAD TO BLEND.. I USED THE SMUDGING TO TAKE AWAY THE LIGHT OF THE PAPER AND OVERALL LOWER THE VALUE OF THE IMAGE WITH THE INTENTION OF ERASING THE LIGHT PARTS. Sometimes smudging is NOT the best idea especially if you are trying to blend shadows and what not.
i hate smudging i prefer crosshatching even tho people treat smudging as a more artistic thing idk why .. love the rough blending feel i get with hatching in general 👌🏻
I love how Slew doesn’t hop on to the popular art trends, they are honestly getting a bit annoying and overboard. He reminds me of how the art community used to be, everyone was original and followed what they wanted to do. It’s honestly a breath of fresh air watching his channel! Keep doing what your doing!
Sammyzane _ ikr i enjoy his videos because of their simplicity. other youtubers like zhc and vexx are very skilled and are really great artists but their content is pretty trash, over the top and repetitive while slew’s is very informative even if he isn’t the greatest artist out their he’s still very inspirational and you can tell he’s actually passionate about art which to me makes him very very likable
I drew you with pencil and posted it on insta...and you liked it :O I was like oh damn it’s the king 🥰 yours came out much better then mine brudda XD I used the same paper tho! Woot
i really admire your mentality, any time you spend on what you love is successful no matter the outcome because all of that time is spent learning and growing in your field of interest.
@@slewp i thought it was bad at first that you shaded it with your hand i thought it was messed up but after you started shading it again for some time i changed my mind and it was good and you are also or are you?.... A professional and i am also amazed you didnt need a guideline or something you just followed what you wanted to draw
I’m never quite sure why someone would give a video like this a thumbs down. Slew is amazing and he is demonstrating that you clearly do not need fancy tools to make great art. That’s the point!!! Huge Slew fan!
I've been hearing you say in a few videos that you don't like the look of your long hair down cause it makes you look like a girl... DUDE! It suits you great and you always look like a guy ;) Long hair is soo hot whether it's on guys or girls! And even if some people thought you looked like a girl.. fuck 'um... Girls are hot!
I always get frustrated with graphite because I feel like I can’t get dark values. Smudging the graphite to create a gray base is an awesome idea! It makes the darker values AND the highlights pop. I’ll definitely try some more graphite! Thanks!
love your work bro .. appriciate that you're providing actual art content not like all that clout chasing clickbaity content that's all over the youtube art community nowadays ❤️❤️💪🏻
Nice traditional style portrait Slew! I'd challenge you to try a more expressionistic portrait style the next time. I'm sure you'd nail that too. Hugs from Germany
Everytime I feel like I'm in an art block I watch your videos to keep me motivated, love seeing you work in your studio, you're living my kind of dream man lol
I'm so happy I stumbled on your videos. I've been needing to hear a voice like yours to help me get back to making art for the sake of practice. I've been drawing self-portaits for the last week and I've been having SO much fun! Something I really miss about being in art school was always having people to talk about art with, all the details, and in great depth. Thanks for the vid!
I love the fact that you actually said not to smudge for shading, i am amateur artist and i think that was most peoples mistake when drawing (i never smudged but i have seen many people do it on the special test for an art school do it, but what do you expect from 14 yos with a small bit of prep or none at all)
Your video style is the best part of your presentation. It takes confidence and a unique sense of self critique to pull off what you do. Few you tubers can capture the essence of what makes a video captivating especially by one so young. The cool demeaner you display with a sense of self discipline is rarely seen. Rock on and don’t change a thing. :)
I love your videos...you're so great at explaining what you're doing in a way people who don't have a formal art education can understand. I've looked and didn't find a video where you explain your art education...I would love to watch one!
Sorry to put in this comment here sir. But I felt compelled to to applaud you for your art. I use the pencil and mainly that medium to draw. Haven't learned to get good at other mediums. Too bad I've stopped and haven't continued.
Kindly, Tell us more about what you were doing in Italy, I would love to study there when the world is back in order. Thank you, Keep up the good work👍🏾
Try mongol pencil its pencil normally used in the Phillipines. I used ink pen for my drawing in my channel but I highly recommend mongol pencil 🥰 -artist from Phillipines
Hey slew. This is @rathi_art I have done some pencil and a charcoal art.. today I have learnt few techniques from this video.. that Pencil Dust one. That's cool! TQ sir

Here’s a weird question...but how do you see your own face? (Mirror, duh!) but I mean...how do you see it accurately? I’m so used to seeing my face that I can’t see it for what it is...if that makes sense. Wish I could turn my head upside down and try drawing it that way. I might have body and facial dysmorphia though, so that doesn’t help. 🙃
Watching this video I remembered the drawings that I used to do for my friends when I was at school. I made some money with that. Lately I've been drawing some portraits but now I realized that I never have drew a self portrait.
Just joking with you, you did do the entire portrait with the lead of the pencil I’m probably going to start doing more self portraits now, I only ever did one.
I really like seeing the improvement in your work. You really lit the creative fire within me. I want to get better, I want to improve. Learn new things etc. Great video overal dude

its really nice to use a rubbery sponge to smuge and create shadows when using graphyte ;)
Love seeing you go to graphite! You did a great job dude!!

Slew you are one of the artist that reminds me that i need to pursue my passion.Great man!

You nailed it, Sam. You are so fun to listen to because you get so excited about art. I also like your sense of humor 👍
You are by far my favorite artist. I even wrote my art paper about you! Thank you for making videos and sharing your art
i wanna read that paper!
@@slewp I didn't expect you to actually see my comment... I'll look through my laptop for it
Omg you like Know how I feel, he's really my favorite male artist you know so inspiring

actually just started painting more consinstently cause of your videos...
Keep it up Sam🤟
right on lets go!
Such a good idea to smudge charcoal everywhere, then erase to add in your highlights. 🤯
its a good idea sometimes. I did not use it to blend though. Just to take away the white paper!
@@slewp thanks for the tips!

I only use about 2-3 different pencils ✏️ and a charcoal pencil for the darkest parts (no shine)
Awesome work and wonderful video making👌👍
You've inspired me to work on self portraits. It's been like 16 years since I did one. Lol, ain't no time like the present.

It was soo funny when he showed his fingers all black 🤣🤣🤣
Slew dropping knowledge skills. 💥 boom
Slew: I’m only using a no2 pencil
Also slew: takes out xacto knife 😂
Nice work though keep it up!
hahahah true i guess.. but really only used the lead of that pencil to make the portrait!
Just joking with you, you did do the entire portrait with the lead of the pencil
I’m probably going to start doing more self portraits now, I only ever did one.
I really like seeing the improvement in your work.
You really lit the creative fire within me. I want to get better, I want to improve. Learn new things etc.
