What's your opinion on the current job outlook? I'm considering in going to pharmacy school, keep getting negative feedback

That's a great question, it is more tough than in the past. The field of ambulatory care has some of the most growth in my opinion, so I personally am not afraid of getting a job in this area. However, my dual desire for academia may limit my job opportunities since academia is "going through a rough time" right now. In the retail setting, it is likely the most difficult, but hospital, managed care, industry, and other fields I would say are still options/open in terms of jobs. If you're flexible and can broaden your interests, then I think you should still pursue pharmacy! I know that I love caring for patients, working extensively with medications, and contributing as a member of the healthcare team no matter what setting of pharmacy I work in. That's what keeps me coming back to this profession. Hopefully that helps!

@@pharmresidents this would be a 2nd career for me,/ career change. So trying to weigh out the options if it's worth it in the next several years.

@@music528 Hmm, I would try to really think about what you're looking for in a job. Perhaps there is another field of healthcare where you would get what you're looking for without the same training requirements or less expensive schooling. Do you know if it's the subject matter of pharmaceuticals that interests you, or the interactions with patients? I personally love my interactions with patients and the role I play in their care. I could have gotten a similar experience as a physician, but as a pharmacist I'm fortunate to really optimize my time with patients and make it what I want to be. But I also love pharmacy and find drugs fascinating, which I could not go into as deep of a dive into if I didn't choose pharmacy school. Hopefully that helps you, I would try to find out what you're really passionate about, perhaps you have an idea or are looking for that still. I would shadow pharmacists if you're wanting to hear directly from them why they love their job!
