You only have to read the hateful comments in this section to understand that there is no chance of a solution that will bring the Turkish and Greek Cypriots together. The entire tax and revenue system is linked to Ankara online not to mention the latest CCTV systems which have been installed all over the north of the island and with varosha being opened up its seems like Turkey has annexed the the north part for good. Any future negotiations are just meetings to make it look like there maybe a chance of a solution. One also has to understand that with England out of the EU there is no longer a need for Turkey to be a member of the EU and they have recently signed trade agreements to subsidise taxes for goods going to the UK. This is the reality of the situation. Everyone here can argue who started what and who is responsible for what but the Cyprus situation was settled in 1974 with the knowledge and permission of the British and the Americans. Once Britain got their sovereign bases it was end game. The problem is a lot deeper than everyone thinks if only all the Cypriots could see that we have been played by the big powers.
The Turkish invasion and occupation of Cyprus can be regarded as a failure not a success, as the Turkish occupied north and so called ''TRNC'' continues to not be internationally recognised. The Turkish Cypriots remain in international isolation. There is only one solution for the benefit of all Cypriots, Greek speaking and Turkish speaking - a united Federal Cyprus. This would mean the whole of Cyprus becoming EU members and enjoying the security and human rights that all other EU countries enjoy. Britain, Greece and Turkey will no longer be needed as ''gaurantors'', and the whole of Cyprus reaping the benefits of the natural energy extraction. Of course, for this to happen, Turkey must withdraw from Cyprus. This is not 1974 any longer, at the height of the cold war.
If the Greek/C didn’t try to unite with Greece and totally ignore their Turkish/C rights, this wouldn’t happen! This is a sad story which should be a reminder for anyone who tries to eradice or hinder the other. If living together peacefully side by side isn’t possible, the next best thing is to live separately and hope for better days to come for all.

It's Turkey that invaded Cyprus. EOKA (National Organisation of Cypriot Fighters) was not against the Turkish Cypriot community, it was fighting the British for freedom. The British then used the Turkish Cypriot community and turned them against the Greek Cypriots to divide and rule, because the British could not control EOKA, Grivas tactics were too good, so the British used the Turkish Cypriots and also paid traitors. The Greek Cypriots had no choice but to retaliate.

The only solution is to start everything from the scratch. If both sides will continue proving to be the right ones then it might take yet many other centuries. They need to forgive each other (I know it's not easy-but for the sake of the next generations and the country they must do it) and start the new chapter and unite! Create their own army and withdraw all the foreign armies from the territory of the island. Rewrite the constitution and make both Turkish and Greek ethnicities have equal rights. I know that it sounds like "easier said than done" but nothing is impossible! I believe that if they can plan it well it can happen in a max of 5 years time, as it needs to be done gradually step by step, take into consideration every single fact that might harm or be useful to make it happen asap. Good luck Cyprus!

The results of Turkish brutality...a vibrant Greek city died in their hands. All the houses, schools, libraries, churches, hotels were heavily looted by the Turkish army. Then they left the city to die instead of letting it's lawful inhabitants to return home....
Unfortunately originally all the problems caused by first in 1963 by Greek Cypriot EOKA, then by Greek Junta & EOKA & Nikos Sampson trying to overthrow the legal president Makarios. Turkey only intervened when there was no other way to save Turkish Cypriot minority. In 2004 in the Annan Plan conditions were favourable of Greek Cypriots, giving them Varosha (Maras) and Omorfodia (now Guzelyurt). Turkish Cypriots accepted it, but Greek Cypriots rejected. So it is obvious where the blame rises - greedy GC s still want the whole island!!! I am sure now they wished that they accepted that plan, as nothing as good as that is likely to be on offer!!! As a Turkish speaking Cypriot born and raised in Ammochostos, all my life I had been living with the traumatising remains and ruins of Varosha. Watching this has made me cry my eyes out as all my childhood I have been imagining the life before '74. I always thought about how people's lives been disrupted and destroyed, now seeing this real life story makes me feel even more furious. I cried from beginning to the end. Everyone should see this. Wish there were turkish translations for those people who live in cyprus but dont know enough greek or english. So they could be more emphatic. What has happened here in Cyprus is a brutal tragedy which should be resolved. As Cypriots we belong to this island and deserve to live in a united peaceful Cyprus.

Yes, we Turks tried to negotiate out of good will, but Greeks have none as usual. We could start building the north however we want right away.

The best solution is live Separately
If the Greek/C didn’t try to unite with Greece and totally ignore their Turkish/C rights, this wouldn’t happen!
This is a sad story which should be a reminder for anyone who tries to eradice or hinder the other.
If living together peacefully side by side isn’t possible, the next best thing is to live separately and hope for better days to come for all.

The result of ENOSIS and EOKA (Εθνική Οργάνωσις Κυπρίων Αγωνιστών , If they had respected the rights of the Turks and had not intended invade the whole island, they would have been sitting at home now.

So, the United Kingdom stole the island of Cyprus from the Ottoman Empire and we got our rights back in 1974
@@metinaktan7551 In 1878 the Ottomans leased Cyprus to the British. Then during the First World War, Britain annexd the island completely as Turkey went on the side of Germany during the war. Turkey then signed The Treaty of Lusanne, which meant that Turkey had nothing more to do with Cyprus, until Britain in the 1950s insisted they have a say. I don't know what rights you mean you got in 1974. The Turkish occupied area of Cyprus, following Turkey's invasion in 1974, has left the Turkish Cypriots in international isolation, and the so called 'TRNC'' as a result, not recognised to this day and that will continue. Also, the genuine Turkish Cypriots have been largely out numbered by setlers (colonists) from Turkey, who are different in attitude, way of thinking, etc. That's not rights, that's being worse off, economically and in every way. Most genuine Turkish Cypriots long for reunification on a Federal basis with all the benefits that would bring. EU membership with all the equality, rights and security enjoyed by other EU countries, and the Natural Gas Energy extraction wealth being undertaken by the Cyprus government. By the way, during the Second World War, the British offered to give Cyprus to Greece, if Greece entered the war against the Germans. The reason for this situation stems from the citizens of both states.
Because your States want it that way.
Years ago, both states lived in the British colony as they were brothers and sisters.
I lived in London as a Cypriot citizen for many years. Both citizens of the state still live there as brothers and sisters in London . My best friend is all Cypriot Greek.
Since states cannot do it. Why do not the citizens of both sides create an English parliament as before, choose the Judges and Prosecutors from the UK and make all the police British and the citizens of both states live as the Republic of Cyprus under their rule.
This, equal rights are granted to citizens of both states.
