    This entire series is fascinating to watch! It is clear that you have a passion for drums and also for empowering people to dive deeper in the care and maintenance of their instruments. Although, I'm not a percussionist at all, I married one! One of the best sounding drums she has needs a new head and this series is exactly what I needed to get started. Thank you for sharing your skills.

    Good explanation on keeping the rings level. It follows my montra, dont get greedy, it is not how hard you pull, it is know when not to pull hard.

    Hey Nick! In 0:51 you talking: "we removing skin crises I would say. " But is not better when you show in video "Installing Goat Skin on Djembe Drum" when you doing tip when we don't have extra skin and we make holes and tightening skin on ring? And wait with remove rope what you shows on that tip after we do first tightening rope on verticals?

    I tried going to your website and it said it was not http supported so I didn't go. It would seem a good idea to put a link in your videos on how to get the rope and tool for djembe repairs. I can't find it. Please advise.

      I no longer have a web site and I don't sell Djembes and supplies any longer. I strictly sell Native American style drums now. Good luck with your project.

    How much time should I set aside to do this for the first time? I want to be sure to finish it before the skin dries.

      I would plan on two hours. I start soaking the skin while I remove the rope from the drum. This will take about 30 min to 1 hour. Then it will take about an hour to re-lace the drum with the new skin on. Don't worry about the skin drying out in the time it take you to get the skin on. It will take the skin at least 24 hours to dry to the point you can tune it. Don't forget to trim the excess skin before it dries.

    Is the flesh ring and the top ring the same exact size?

    • @nicholaszwack4724
      @nicholaszwack4724 4 месяца назад +1

      Yes, both rings should be the same size to sandwich the skin between the two rings.

    Thank you sir! How much time should I allow myself to do this?

    • @wwdrums
      @wwdrums  6 лет назад +2

      Plan on two hours to break down drum and get the new head on the drum. Then once the head dries, after a day, plan on another hour of tightening.

    How long does it take to rehead a drum? seems like a cheep Bali drum would be more cost effective just to buy (reinvest in) a new one, or is it the experience of restringing that makes it worth while?

    Hey man! first of all thanks for your videos, they have been really helpfull!!I have a question for u.. i'm changing a skin of a big drum, i've got to the point of the first tight, but i made a terrible discover.. my top ring is upside down.. so i got the top ring loop rope facing down, and holding on top of the skin.. i got a picture if u want.. So my question is, should i restart again or could i keep going? thanks for the answer man!!

      Keep going. It may look a little different but I think it will be just as functional. I have completed reskinning jobs only to find the skin was on up sided down. The drum sounded and played fine.
