Maps is a new browser-based tool that lets Dungeon Masters and players participate in tactical gameplay using maps in a shared play space on D&D Beyond.
Maps is an Alpha launch, which means it’s not finished: it will be buggy, features basic functionality, and may even crash at times as its user base grows! Our intention is to gather player feedback and continue to improve the tool with added functionality. We’re committed to consistent improvements.
Maps is included with the Master-tier subscription. Master Tier subscribers can launch and run a game on Maps for any registered D&D Beyond user. Dungeon Masters who would like to use the tool are encouraged to sign up for a 30-day free trial Master-tier subscription!

I hope you guys add automation, walls, multiple levels for maps that you can transition between as tokens arrive, a DM screen option for hosts/dms, music and sounds for ambiance and atmosphere, as well as weather and lighting effects.
Also a way to hide tokens, a more robust fog of war, parallaxing, player view initiative tracker, journal system, a way to place items, etc just so so much more.
I'd REALLY appreciate it if you could put a measurement tool in
Definitely needs more tools. I'm surprised there's no grid snapping. Looking forward to seeing the new improvements.
Oh, I'm also going to need to be able to easily customize monsters. Like, grab that owlbear and pump it's HP way up. Or change my armored ogre's AC.
Ive always been put off being a DM because roll20 and the time I'd need to spend mastering it. This however looks nice and simple. And I like that all my digital stuff will be linked in one place. 🎉
Honest its super easy to use, but super basic right now. Excited to see the addition of music, measurement tools, and line of sight. I won't be using it much until the measuring tools get added.
very cool but i gotta stress the fact at the end. ALPHA. currently been trying to get a campaign (intro to storm wreck isles) going for 4 days but the launch map button still doesn't work while it takes a subscription to be able to use it. still very iffy! but hopefully made reliable soon
So, using an iPad to play and there is no where on the screen to open or see the map. How does a player with an iPad see the map?

You need to implement everything roll20 can and cheaper price or good luck with a failed product.
I mean, it's self admittedly still in Alpha, no need to bust the social media person's hopes and dreams
It doesn’t have to implement “everything.” They could go the Microsoft vs Apple route; less customization, but cleaner user-friendly experience

This seems like a great addition. Unfortunately, even though I am the DM of my group, I can't use it because I have the Hero tier sub, not the Master tier sub. It would be nice if it were available to anyone that has a subscription.

Nothing beats the good old paper and dice. Still love to use their stories and give it an own twist. One day we allowed the knuckle wand, mage bayonet, nail wand, butterfly wand and sawed of shortwand. Everyone went mage because of it and I made a lovely Topi from Chult spawn. which is of course immume against magic damage
